LTTP: Rage 2 (Game Pass)

The other day I put on Rage 2 to get an achievement for some rewards points and now weeks later, I’m waist deep in some Rage 2 and kind of really digging it.
It’s a few years old and isn’t even optimized for next gen but it still looks halfway decent IMO.
The gunplay feels nice and there’s quite a bit of progression with weapons, vehicles and abilities.
I could’ve sworn people were shitting on it back in ‘19.
I hopped off of Halo Infinite campaign like halfway through and I find myself wanting to play this instead.
if you have Game Pass and like open world FPS, peep this.

I really liked Rage 2. It had some flaws but it was a good time and I am glad it got made as I thought the franchise was one and done after the first one disappointed in reviews and sales.

I would still say Rage is my least favorite ID franchise but it was good that they were able to get a decent game made and outsourced while they focused on Doom. Really want ID to deliver a great Quake game although I am not sure what that is or looks like with all the different games they have made in the series.

I tried it for exactly the reason you did, but couldn’t wait to turn it off! The controls felt really off (which is unusual for an Avalanche game) and I don’t know if it was just the starting area, but it was just super dull visually.

The first one was outstanding though, I adored it.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Especially compared to the first game the whole world, the story and the overall design is a huge mess and feels completely lifeless. ID Software should be deeply ashamed to have put their name on it for this passionless creation. As a huge fan of the first game, Rage 2 was a big fat middle finger to me. And don't come and say it was Avalanche Studios.

My feelings are still hurt after all these years.

Strange that this game is not X/S enhanced since it is from Bethesda(and therefore MS)

Really wanna play this, but the 1080p-res just turns me off.

The controls, you have to mention the controls.

Rage 2 has the weirdest aim-acceleration I have ever seen in a major FPS, it's terrible to aim, and the settings can't adjust it enough to fix it, it takes hours to get used to it, it's so bizarre.

Rage 2 was a huge disappointment. Combat is decent, but the open world is boring and pointless.
Story and characters are crap. Graphics are colorful, but nothing special.

This one didn't land with me, but I'm happy to see it getting some love. RAGE was always the bastard stepchild of id's output, and I was shocked and surprised when it got a sequel. There's something that just doesn't click for me, but it's definitely not a "bad game".

I didn't even last 10min. before uninstalling the game exactly because how terrible the controls are. And that's a sequel to a game that was among the very few ones that ran at 60FPS on PS3/XB1 and had arguably even better controls than CoD at the time.

Loved Rage 2! Easily my favorite open world game.

The combat is awesome. Fun, hectic, and visceral. One of the best assault rifles in an FPS.

Fixed most of my complaints with the combat in Doom 2016, though it can't escape from that Doom jank.

I don't care for the goofy tone or punk style, but I easily ignored that while mowing down hordes mutants.

I really enjoyed this game. Gameplay was buttery smooth and it performed really well on my PC. Story was entirely forgettable with characters I don’t remember at all but I wasn’t playing it for the story anyways.

A very playable game from start to finish. Nothing world shattering or ground breaking. TBH I'd love to see more AA single player shooters. We'd be better off if more games just strived to be competent and fun rather than genre defining.

Enjoyed the first one immensely, got the platinum on PS3. Didn’t feel the sequel nearly as much, it was just ok, nothing really special. I’d definitely give it another shot if it got a Series X enhancement.

Rage 1 is much better. I loved it, in fact. It just ended abruptly (after 10 ish hours and without any boss fight whatsoever). But the gunplay was second to none, especially once you get the shotgun. And I thought the driving was okay. Good to see more gamers liked the first, it was kind of overlooked after it finally launched.

Rage 2 is not great, but it's still better than Borderlands in terms of characters and level design and world building, it took the awful cringe of BL and dialed it somewhere different to make it over the top and fun.

Rage 1 is still a better game, I never finished it back in the day because it looked like shit and played poorly on my PS3, years later on a PC is was a great time, awesome weapons, great characters, awesome world design.

We really need Rage 3, but it needs to be treated right, not made by a low tier ID team... who knows in the upcoming Xbox showcase, maybe we'll get something.

I'd love for the first one to get ported to the newest idtech. That was the worst iteration of idtech. Capped at 60 fps. Texture pop-in and generally poor performance.
that would be great , PC launch version of that game was disappointing . its pretty good now though and has aged well

There's a glitch at the end related to the final big vehicle you get that breaks the ending and makes the game impossible to finish.

That ruined the game immeasurably for me/ I'd suggest googling it so you don't trigger it if you want to play this game.

Felt like a typical avalanche game. Good gameplay but 2008 tier open world design and bland story.

I’d at least give it a couple hours. I think I thought the intro looked pretty terrible too.

1080p isn’t even bugging me. At least it’s 60.
Is GP edition different? Is there another version?
Nah. I was just pointing out that it is in fact on Game Pass now.

I was excited when I played it at Gamescom 2018 for the first time.
But that excitement faded at release because of the barren open world and
the game seemed to me made for co-op. But it didn't have it, missed opportunity.
(Just like of Agents of Mayhem.)

Got this game on PC day 1 and uninstalled a few days later. Not sure why it's getting praise now just because it's on gamepass?

Doesn't this just mean Gamepass quality is going down?

Ooof on console. With the powers you can have doom levels of speed.

Take my advice, the player has a mini helicopter available to call (don't remember when you unlock it), but abuse it as soon as you can, and get straight to the upgrade points in a straight line, not caring about the road

Checking in to say I’m still really digging it.
so much so that I was thinking about purchasing it for when it goes off of game pass…
but I won’t spend more than 20 bucks on it. So for the moment it’s a no-go.

I finished it (also gamepass), it is probably my favourite Avalanche game, maybe tied with JC2.
The gunplay is great and the world is quite fun to explore.

I still prefer Rage 1 a little bit, but both are fun.

Your thread definitely inspired me to replay it. I want to do New Game Plus on my Xbox, but I starting a new base game playthrough on Stadia first.

The assault rifle and shotgun are just as good as I remember.

The game was a really nice experience (played it on PC). For some reason I remember people was mostly praising it here..?

I’m to the point where I’m playing the ever loving shit out of this game.
The weird thing is, it’s reminding me of the first hours of Forza Horizon 5.
super addictive rinse repeat stuff.
its like open world doom 2016, what’s not to like?
the only thing I’m starting to notice is there’s a bit of jank.
were people praising this when it came out? I thought critic dumped on it.
hence my finally only playing it when it came to game pass.
I would appreciate a res bump update, but I’m probably going to be done with it before that happens.

I enjoyed it a lot on one x. It has to be played in 60fps tho. I tried it on one s in 30 fps and it was unplayable. The game is not something special but it's still very fun.

The deluxe edition is selling for 18 dollars on the epic store.
I would pay 20 on Xbox but I’m settling for playing for free for now.

I might give this a go on PC. Had it on Xbox but couldn’t get on with the weird controls. Enjoyed what I played of it though, it was definitely a fun time.
