Firt announced last year, the game is looking to recruit staff to work on the game which is said to be inspired by Conan: Exiles, another Funcom game.

“Since the ‘90s, Funcom has honed its craft creating unforgettable experiences in captivating universes and delivering lasting success with games like Conan Exiles,” reads a statement on a new recruitment page for the game.

“Having built a team of experienced developers from across over 30 nationalities, we now seek new voices to add to our most ambitious project yet, set on Arrakis.”

“Do you want to be a part of our next-gen open-world survival game? We invite you to come shape a world made boundless by its deep lore and enduring themes. Join us as we build a Dune for all fans to realize the dream of traversing its ever-shifting landscape, sand under fingernails and spice in the air.”

The game is being co-developed by German developer Nukklear and began development following Funcom’s acquisition of the Dune franchise in 2019.

Of course it's survival. Let's play another game where we have to spend endless amounts of time creating the basic shit that should be there to begin with instead of crafting a meaningful story.

God I hate survival games. They're a blight.

This is pretty good if you like strategy games...

And it's what Dune historically should be, or at least what a franchise owner should start out with. This survival action whatever game we're talking about here, that is the mass-market product, that I'm glad to see them expanding into with such a hot property suddenly boiling up on their roster. However, it's important that Dune still got strategy treatment of some kind all these years after the name first found its genre. (Spice Wars isn't the same as Dune or Dune II, but it is still carrying on the legacy in its own way.)

I still don't know how this company continues to exist. So many failed projects like Conan and Secret World, even if I had fun with both. They must have deep pockets or government support or something.

Is this hiring related to the Spice Wars 4X game though?

That game is neither open world nor survival. I think this could mean a new, unannounced game set in the Dune universe.

The open world survival Dune game was the first one to be announced, over three years ago, when Funcom got the license.

Conan Exiles was actually very successful and they were acquired by Tencent a while ago, so they have quite deep pockets.

They already have a great game which fulfills dune fantasy, it's called Anarchy Online. I'd rather they made AO2 than add another buggy unfinished mess of a game to their list.

Thank fucking God I went to see this in a cinema. The soundtrack alone needs cinema-levels of sound. And no, your Dolby Atmos system at home is not enough.
I thought it was just me. I tried tweaking the heck out of my system but can’t replicate what they had going in the theater. Perhaps we got an inferior audio track on Blu-ray?

Rarely any home has an equivalent of a good cinema sound system of 26+ speakers and 4 subwoofers. Also, the sound levels are something else than at home even if you blast them fully.

You just can’t replicate it at home.

Conan the Barbarian and Dune, two of my favorite franchises, both transformed into shitty "survival" simulators by Funcom.

Fuck Funcom and the horse they rode in on.
