It's hard to believe 343 is already working in another Halo when they have a shit ton of work to do for Infinite including stuff that was supposed to be done a year and a half ago.

I assume right now they are -and for some years will continue- focused on post launch Infinite content and that will wait until they released remaining key stuff like coop to start preproduction of the next Halo, game that I'd codevelop with ID and Arkane to not only release it faster and better but to make it feel more fresh with some new tweaks and additions while keeping the essence and key pilars of the series.

Talk about eating more than you can chew. Maybe it is starting or small, but if they place a lot of people this will "To do two things at once is to do neither". The delays and problems with infinite could be explained if they are doing this.

I have absolutely no knowledge of game development, but I'm not all that surprised about them potentially working on a new project. Didn't 343i have more than 500 employees? I can only assume many of them probably have done their work on HI and can move on.

It's not completely unlikely.
Developers like e.g. Naughty Dog seem to work on other projects than The Last of Us 2, even though they should be working exclusively on the multiplayer mode, which was originally expected to be part of the game, was then delayed to be sold as a separate game, and still isn't in sight about two years later.

True, isn't completely unlikely. But at least until know at least oficially 343 only has been working in a game at a time, while we know ND officially worked on multiple projects at the same time.

Druckman said they were going to spin off the MP side of TLOU2 to a completely different new game. They also announced the Legacy of Thieves Collection and its PC port (mostly outsourced project) and said they are interested on to keep working on TLOU, Uncharted and new IPs. We know Druckmann drafted the TLOU3 main story in case some day in the future they decide to develop it.

And like the other Sony teams, ND grew a lot and will continue growing, has 660 workers listed on LinkedIn, so could afford 2 or 3 big sized games at the same time. Unoficially we knew they also did help Bend on a -who knows if cancelled- Uncharted spinoff and Sony VASG San Diego on the TLOU1 remake. Via job offers we know they are working on an Uncharted and a remake, and we saw an image of TLOU1 on the Sony CES show. So it's fair to assume the TLOU1 remake is real and that they continue with the Uncharted spinoff, or are working on another Uncharted or at least plan to start it soon.

did i miss the memo that Halo was a primarily SP game? I think its becoming less and less so with how poor the new story was.

LoU2 is primarily a SP game and that's it, the MP was just a nice bonus.

It might be just for testing and still release on current-gen only.
Maybe. But genuine question as I do not know about this: is it a common practice to test on older-gen consoles?

Logically it doesn't make sense to me to test a current-gen game on last-gen consoles. What purpose does it serve as a current-gen game would most likely be unplayable on last-gen consoles?

It might be a stripped down version meant only to test online capabilites, some systems, stuff like that. There's also more Xbox One consoles out there, so it was easier to get as many people in to this insider program.

Just a guess though. I hope FM doesn't actually release on both generations. Imagine Turn10 having to support older consoles for years because of the live service nature of this game.

As with all rumors, take with grains of salt unless confirmed officially.

Time stamped below.

Forza Motorsport is in beta and some influencers are playing it.

Can anyone explain why the test build is running on XBO? I know it's more for general engine performance and server load, but if they wanted a low-spec option they could also be testing on low-end PCs, right?

Cool; the more of this the better. Maybe they have select fans present at the theater, long as they've been quarantined.

Welp that didn't take long. Didn't take long at all. Probably best for them to cut their losses with Infinite and try again; I don't think it's going to see the explosion of players even after adding BR, campaign co-op and Forge as people are thinking it will. Competition from other live-service shooters will prob end up being too much for Infinite by then, let alone right now.

I know that devs can have multiple teams/projects but when you release a barebones game that you promise you working hard to complete, having a second team working on another project from the same ip is not a good sign.

I hope it's not true.

If they are smart they would let one of the Call Of duty developers make an ODST game. Man with the right developer that could be killer. A gritty, dark shooter!!! No shield no spartan armor.

I would be interested to see what they do for the updated physic models for FM8 on xbox one if it does come out on xbox one.

For the new Forza Motorsport, the tire contact patch features eight points, updating 360 times a second, resulting in a behavior model that is almost 50 times more detailed than before.

Do we know what GT7 is doing for tire contact points and refresh rates on ps4/ps5?

Don't chase good money after bad money.

Halo Infinite should probably be winding down. Just deliver what was promised and write it off as a learning experience. Add coop, a few more maps, forge mode and wash your hands of it. That leaves die hards happy with minimal cost at this point.

Halo as a BR and Halo x Rust/DayZ would be far more fruitful and exciting projects. Open world Halo with big, tense moments is the natural evolution of the series. They should probably get as many resources diverted in those directions ASAP.

To me, it makes a ton of sense if that's what they're actually doing.

Didn't they plan to support it for 10 years or something like that? They could keep adding stuff like the things you mention as extra DLC content reusing the current base which is ok. Don't need to rebuild everything from strach as a separate mode if all you want is a BR or survival modes.

By the way, Forza Motorsport may not be a current-gen exclusive as advertised, according to this (verified) Reddit leak.

Has someone put a square round the guys foot in a pre release build. Is that some embarrassing look at this flaw or maybe highlighting it for the dev to fix it? If its the first thing that's just sad lol.

whats that even mean?

If you want to probably get slightly into the weeds; https://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/...oducing-the-5-point-tyre-model-for-acc.59307/

I am not expert in sim racing so think some person would be better placed to answer why they care.

It's to do with how often the game engine is refreshing the tire + tarmac interaction and how detailed it is modelling where the tyre is actually in contact with the tarmac/ground/grass/curbs.
- If you have a single point in the centre of the wheel, then if the edge of your tyre goes onto the grass, the game doesn't really acknowledges that. By having more points, the game engine is able to acknowledge and feed that back to you as a driver through lessened grip/noise.
- The 360 refresh rate is quite simple, the game is calculating what your tyres are or aren't contacting with every 0.00278 seconds instead of 0.0166 seconds (using 50x and the fact that FM7 only have it previously was 60 per seconds).

oh i get it now, but that doesn't mean anything until we see it in practice. hell even after that, you'll get loads of adjustments.

In theory it just means more accurate behaviour if the rest of the physics is right.

I saw the ACC physics is at 400hz, iRacing is 333 or 360hz.

The only reason I raised it is cause I don't get how the Xbox one keeps up but maybe it can. It might be two very different experiences in terms of physics and feel however not sure what that does for online play.

Interesting times.

still there are too many variables, like the weight of the car, tire temperature, track and so on and so forth. i dont think ive heard anything about gt7 but eh the game already got physics overhaul, and i doubt its the last one either

I don't really want to compare to GT7 for that exact reasons and being physically accurate is always a bit of subjective thing and not always a good thing unless you want a simulator first experience. GT7 is using the same physics afaik across PS4/PS5 but would need to confirm that.

I'm not sure about that "10 years of support" quote that gets thrown around a lot. I've tried finding it to no avail. Plus, if they did say it, they're not legally committed to actually carrying it out if it doesn't benefit them. Didn't EA say something similar about Anthem?

BR and Survival leans on massive levels, high interactivity, and a steady cadence of content. It feels like there's something fatally flawed about the Slipspace Engine. There's a good chance leadership would rather start anew rather than slog through whatever current problem they've been struggling with for the past 6 years.

Competition is nearing that's going to leave Halo Infinite in the dust. I assume companies that started with BR + Survival in mind, post 2017, have a big technical advantage over what 343 is dealing with. New technologies catered to those game types are making rapid advancements that will likely provide a significant competitive edge. See: The Arma 4 engine, Ubisoft Scaler tech, Prologue etc...

The 10 years quote is from here. Sure, they aren't legally forced to do anything. Not sure if they mentioned the 10 years thing for Anthem, but I remember they mentioned it for the Destiny series (initially planned to be split across 3 games, later they decided to keep it in two games).

I don't know, MS has a lot of talent there split across many studios. If I was them I'd sync all their engine guys from all their different teams to create an awesome single engine flexible enough to be used by all their teams. Or if not they can always move to UE.

Or well, for Halo I think they can also get help from the other non 343 teams to implement more game modes or engine improvements, or to add more story chapters.
