Sony has reportedly blocked PlayStation Plus and PS Now subscription stacking (Update: stacking will resume when service launches, codes still valid)

This is just new stacking, they don’t cancel what’s already on your account. Hopefully they realize it’s good to let people invest in the platform. I’m set until 2024, means I’m not going anywhere until then.

I'm curious if the mods are going to do something in the future about GAF. Every SINGLE thread in the gaming sub is always the same people arguing the same points. I know they are trying to get rid of the trolls but it's so exhausting to see bickering 24/7 from grown adults. You can't have a discussion about anything, outside of a few GOOD people. It's unfortunate. Don't you guys want a nice peaceful place with good conversation and insight?

On that note, I'm going to play some Outriders before the expansion drops. Goodnight warriors. ✌️

So, basically as I have ps plus until next year Sony is stopping me from finding a cheap deal on ps plus and activating it now but if I wait a couple of months I will be able to buy discounted cards from retailers and then stack?

I get that it's a little annoying for those who have handed over the money right now for the top up but you are still going to be able to activate it later right? Just store the code somewhere?

Not ideal but just a bit of an inconvenience really.

Sony and Ninty are always on the ball with these kind of shit. Truth is they cant bleed money like microsoft can.
Yeah Sony might go bankrupt if they let people save a couple hundred bucks each, they need to stay afloat with that 4.09bn profit.

And you can stack Nintendo online membership for up to 3 years, don’t drag them down to this: https://en-americas-support.nintend...ntendo-switch-online-memberships-to-extend-my

And MS doesn’t exactly bleed money but that’s for another time.

I would have thought that Sony is happy about people that are willing to sign up for years, because those are customers that won't leave the platform for that time.

Did their past quarter go worse than expected?
It looks to me as if they are having financial problems...

To me it looks like Sony wants their sub service to profit or at the very least not be a loss leader like Netflix was or Gamepass.
Netflix has been profitable for 19 years.

Netflix isn't doing well at all:

Netflix stock is a growth stock, it's market cap was high becuase a lot of people bough it expecting essentially that the stock (or market cap if you want to look at it that way) goes up signficnatly in the future. It's not doing a well a growing right now and so people dumped the stock quickly lowering the value. But it's doing great as profitiable business as. It makes over a billion in profit every few months. It's just not doing great as a growing business.

Unfortunately for you I play on PC, but go off though. 😆
Oh I know, you post history is the usual pc master of insecurities lol
I just realized you're "Fifa 22 guy" from the other thread. I guess I'm not as into kissing Sony's ass for the privilege of buying things I already own.

You're not talking to an Xbox fan boy.

I own every Playstation. I've bought probably 95% of the 1st party library.... going back to 1995. Wip3out is my favorite series. My 60GB PS3 is standing proudly next to my PS5. But I don't think Sony values my money lately.. so I'm not going to just blindly hand it over. If I'm not sold on this subscription... believe me - someone has fucked up.

All that aside... The idea they can't afford to give a little break to anyone who wants to jump on board today by stacking PSnow... and these guys don't even know what the backward compatibility games are yet... while competing services are being competitive (shocking i know)... pathetic....

It has nothing to do with money. It's unfortunately just how Sony behaves when they think they're in the top spot. Always has been. Always talking the talk.... but actually walking it every other generation.

Why are you telling me your life story?

Market reactions doesn't have to relate to profitablity. Netflix arpu and revenue actually increased in the previous quarter.

Microsoft after hour earning in the first couple of hours was down for some reason.
Stock is heavily down because they're now losing users.
Growth phase is over for them and now they have to find ways to reverse the situation otherwise it's going to impact profitabitlity.
But it's going to be hard to attract more users without funding more high quality productions spending more.
Or they could focus on profitability by increasing prices but that could lead to further user losses.

So it's not that investors are crazy or there is no correlation to how the business is performing, there are clear concerns around the business model right now from investors.

I can't believe some of you clowns think this is some sort of "gotcha" that a corporation is screwing its users. And the typical cabal is giving this comment ye olde thumbs up. How much more predictable can this get? And this doesn't even have anything to do with the competition. It's just a statement of fact, that stacking no longer works because they are rolling out new services and don't want to give them away.

That's it. That's the news. Anyone trying to turn this into a fight, or into something it's not, needs to take a long, looooooong look in the mirror and see what a very, very sad person looks like.
The problem everyone, except fanboys, can see is that they said, just two days before this, that they would convert people with both PS+ and PSNow memberships to the higher tier of the new PS+ for as long as the longest one.
Obviously people bought PSNow and PS+ cards to extend their subscriptions before the conversion occurs. Those people, the ones that were encouraged by Sony's own words, couldn't make use of their legally bought cards. Two days after, they say what they are saying now.
If you can't see a problem in how they handled this...

Just stop with this nonsense, only psnow will convert to the top tier, and this has being known for ages.
The outrage of people with no playstation is what baffles me. You get get outraged on behalf of other people instead of minding your own business

Why the fuck are people upset about a loophole being closed? How entitled are people? Not every company needs to give their products/services away for free to gain market share.

If you wanted to take advantage of the loophole, there was plenty of time to do so. And if you only want to pay for things that can be purchased via loopholes then I'm sure there are other companies that will cater to your needs.

Never seen so much fuss about nothing. These sorts of things get posted all the time on hotukdeals and you don't see people crying like this when the company decides to stop it.

Does this surprise anyone? They also removed like 60 games from PS Now this month. Sony has been shit this entire generation, from a consumer perspective.
Not really.

They’ve released a heavily subsidised £359 SKU.

There’s been a £10 uplift for games, but games like DeS Remastered have already been on sale for £40. As always, it’s just a matter of time until they hit the standard £20 rate in the sales.

Yes they’ve removed 60 games from Now, a lot of them are solid, but we’re getting Returnal, Death Stranding, Spider-Man, GoW and Miles Morales on the new service day one.

Just because Xbox is doing better now, that doesn’t mean aRRoGaNT soNy are back.

From their fucking FAQ here: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps-plus/

If I am subscribed to both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, what happens to my subscriptions and payment date?
If you are subscribed to both services when the new PlayStation Plus launches, you will be migrated into the PlayStation Plus Premium membership plan and you will have a new single payment date based on the longer of your two subscriptions. You will be notified via email of your new payment date and subscription fee.

Stop being a fucking fanboy if you don't know what you are talking about

Dont really care will gladly sub in the legit way since Sony keep making them bangers.

And nintendo doesnt allow buying their classics ala cart as well which is total bs since they want that recurring sub. Again, just business.

Be happy ms enjoys taking a hit with that gamepass deal. Every company's situation is different.

That says;

If you are subscribed to both services

Not ‘if you are subscribed to either service’

It is only existing Now subscribers that gets converted to the top tier.
If you read my quoted post in the post I was answering to, I said you needed to be subscribed to both services. Can't you people really read? And then you keep trying to lecture other people 🤣

To be clear, as stated by their faq, having both services will convert to the higher tier for as long as the longest time of either of them. People bought some months of PS now and years-worth of PS+ so they would be converted to PS+ premium for as long as their PS+ subscription ran. That same people then found out they weren't able to stack their PS+ subscription.

It doesn't mean that at all. It means they won't need to shut it down in the foreseeable future and nothing else.

Until they can prove success they have to do their best to give the appearance of success.

It's the same for all companies. Success breeds more success and failures lead to more failures. It's why Sony lumped Vita sales in with PSP, yet had no second thoughts about announcing PS console numbers. It's why Microsoft announced 360 numbers, but stopped after the One generation got going.

I don't think we're in disagreement.

No one is lecturing anybody but you do have a chip on your shoulder.

However yes, reading through your conversation chain you clearly know the script.

Who the fuck buys redeemable cards and doesn’t redeem on the day? You’re talking maybe 2-5 people in the world that would be in this situation, if that.

When your spiderverse movie tanks

other divisions are not making as much profits as they used too

"Sony Pictures business witnessed an increase of US$1.31 billion (¥149.4 billion) or a record 636 per cent jump in consolidated operating income for FY2021 against last year’s US$178.5 million (¥20.3 billion)"

"The Imaging & Sensing Solutions segment saw sales growth of 21.65 per cent or US$2.86 billion (¥324.8 billion) as compared to last year’s US$2.35 billion (¥267 billion). "

"The Financial Services recorded an increase both on overall sales and operating income"

Quick Google search, don't know if there are more up-to-date results?

Weird thing is that this outrage thread is gaining more traction than the actual loophole thread did. I wonder why.

Learn how to read first, before calling names to people. I'm ps plus subscriber till 2025 do you think I wouldn't know that?
You answered my post were I was saying that members with both subscriptions would get converted to the highest tier with:

Just stop with this nonsense, only psnow will convert to the top tier, and this has being known for ages.

I then linked you to the FAQ were it clearly says members with both active subscriptions would be converted to the highest tier.

If you already knew that, why the fuck would you say what you said in the first place?

Who the fuck buys redeemable cards and doesn’t redeem on the day? You’re talking maybe 2-5 people in the world that would be in this situation, if that.
The problem is that the post where they say members with both subscriptions would convert to the highest tier came on Tuesday and, although stacking was already blocked on the same day, they just clarified it today.

I'm sure you are smart enough to see that once that clarification was done, people would go buy a 3-month psnow subscription and stack PS+ ones.

Seriously since vrr was announced, these xbox fanboys are straight antagonising. Everyone. Wtf
I don’t think anyone actually understands what this is doing. Ps plus stays ps plus. Ps now will get converted. If there’s an issue when the tiers finally happen then you can complain. There’s nothing to complain about now. If you have ps plus cards you will be able to redeem them and stack them. Whether you do it today or in a few months it doesn’t change anything. Unless I’m missing something?

this was clarified some time ago. The ps now cards were pulled last month and you cannot buy them anymore. There was a short time you could afterwards and it was quickly taken down. Psplus is staying psplus.

What wasn't clear, and what they clarified two days ago, is that it would match the longest active subscription, not the on on psnow, opening the door to doing that trick

I’m pretty sure it was said a while ago. That’s why people were stacking years of PSNow last month. The door was closed on PSNow subs for a while now.

Dude...what is this fanfic? Sony has never been this healthy. What is this post lmao.

Rely almost solely on their gaming division? For their last quarter PlayStation accounted only for a quarter of Sony's revenues. I don't know how their other divisions aren't bringing in the money but clearly facts say otherwise.

About their Spiderverse flop and their movies division:

Just this year alone Ghostbusters was a hit and a sequel is on the way.
No Way Home is the 5th biggest movie ever and the biggest movie ever to not have a China debut at the box office.
If you mean Morbius, the movie has at least more than doubled its budget for now. Didn't set the charts on fire but it's not the colossal flop you are talking about. It also had a $75M budget. Hardly the $200M you see on many comic book movies.
Plus they also had the Uncharted movie surpassing their internal projections every week.

PlayStation keeps breaking all gaming revenue records every quarter...there's a chance they may get the biggest non-holiday quarter ever for a console manufacturer this quarter once numbers are out.

The doom and gloom in here...

Can’t fault them for this, people who like to exploit will complain but those are the same people that would throw a tantrum if they were the ones being exploited.

Of course they doing it. Just like they banned you if Sony did a pricing error and you took advantage of it.

Absolute bollocks. I got Final Fantasy XV for free because they had a pricing error way back when that lasted for like an afternoon, and I remember people like you telling me Sony would take the game away and nothing happened.

Keep wasting your energy on the narrative.
