Is this even worth anyone's time two+ years after this game even came out.

Anyway...isn't this leak old AF? Not sure it has much relevance to what Factions 2 ultimately becomes.

I wonder how long they've been working on this in total. It must be approaching 5 to 6 years right?
Not really.

They probably had it in full production for like 18 months or so before cutting it out of TLOU2.

Since TLOU2 shipped, it’s been about 2 years.

Assuming it’ll ship within the next year from now, more like 4 to 4.5 years, roughly.

Ah I thought they would have had a team working on it alongside the main story team. Would be interesting to know for sure.

People are wondering why it's taking so long to launch TLOU MP.

Remember Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite. One game launched broken and the other launched with very little content after years of development. I'm sure Naughty Dog wants to avoid that.

And because online multiplayer changed a lot while they were making it.

PUBG & Fortnite became big in 2018.
Apex Legends in 2019. CoD Warzone in 2020.

By mid 2019, they probably realized they had to make a battle royale game, not just TDM.

Good to know it's going to release as a standalone title, because this is the only way I can see it working being that late.

Is Halo Infinite even comparable? Even if you consider it released with much less content than expected, it still totally felt like a full multiplayer experience! Sure, it's getting better and more complete over time, but it was well received and was good from the very beginning. TLOU 2 case is completely different, since the game released 2 years ago and up to this point there's no MP content at all. I don't even understand what ND is suppose to want to avoid when comparing to Halo.

This game is going to take over as one of the most popular multiplayer experiences in gaming this generation.
If its free to play, on PC and has crossplay.
Sure.
If its a Playstation exclusive and costs money?
Forget about it.

Worse still if it follows pay 2 win strategies of Factions 1 then fuck it right outta here.
Taking on the cross platform, crossplay kings who are out right now is not going to be easy.

I play tlou mp daily. Not really interested in Battle Royale. So much potential for this mp. Just give us great graphics and that same tight squad based gameplay and it'll be great. I just want to shoot shiv bash and burn dudes.

Tlou is the only game where you can stabbed shot and burned at the same time. Lol. I've always thought that was a great slogan for the game.

The Last of Us Online: I got stabbed shot and burned!

That's not the point.

Halo was well received and then what happened? The player count declined rapidly. The reason for this is because of its lack of content. That is what they want to avoid. Look across social media and see what people are complaining about.

This has got to be Free to Play right? Curious if it'll be on PC day one or not.
I don't think it's guaranteed.

F2P is great for the type of game that doesn't look that appealing but gives gamers the "what the hell, I'll give it a shot" feeling.

Full price release can work if they're confident they can build up enough hype and FOMO around launch.

I think the main reason it's taking long, is that after TLOU2 seems a lot of devs left Naughty Dog, so i guess it would take them some times to refill this big empty hole.

Destiny 2 requires PS Plus.
MLB The Show requires PS Plus.
Ghost of Tsushima Legends requires PS Plus.
Gran Turismo 7 requires PS Plus.
Destruction Allstars requires PS Plus.
Uncharted 4’s multiplayer requires PS Plus.
Demon’s Souls multiplayer requires PS Plus.
etc

Sony wants people to buy PS Plus subs.

Free to play ain’t it.

I agree. Naughty dog is still one of the best developers, second only to Guerilla Games IMO

Factions 2 will be epic. the fact that it’s been in development for years and they haven’t dropped anything news related means it’s going to be huge. And don’t forget they developed Last of us 1. And uncharted 2. Which are some of the greatest games of all time

I'm sure it will be free to play. I m not sure how you can even charge for a multiplayer only game in 2022, look at battlefield. I would play this though. The original mp was great. Looking forward to trying whatever they do.

Who cares about TLOU2 Online mode at this point?
Um, loads of people? Even the naysayers of TLOU2 usually concede that the gameplay mechanics are on point, would make for a fantastic multiplayer title.

The multiplayer in TLOU1 was incredible.

I don't play multiplayer games for the most part but I remember being addicted to Last of Us Factions on PS3 and PS4. Most fun I had since Socom 1, 2, and confrontation. As long as they keep the classic team deathmatch in factions, the addition of battle royale mode is just going to bring more players over and make the game more popular.

I don't like BR games but that could be huge. The concept of BR really fits into the game's lore. And please add clickers and infected on the map. Pve+PvP is the way to go imo. I can see a release in 2023 bundled with Tlou1 remastered.

Maybe instead of jumping from a plane you come out of the sewers Ninja Turtles Style?
Have camera somewhat infront of your character running in the dark, a straight line(Cause planes/buss/choppers always go straight?) looking at a touris map; and when choosing to "Exit" you come out the closest hole, with clicking sounds all over seeming like you are beeing chased?
A lot of problems with that, but at least its a start?

As for "Sidekick" like uncharted 4 MP, maybe a dog?
Find them out and about like normal Loot "PVE" style, but befriending them with food and water, and then they could be leshed to your person, helping finding loot or enemies nerby.
Maybe if Infected is PVE the dog's can help you out of a instant death clicker when it grabs you.. dog to the rescue?

Cod is the whole package and warzone has absolutely eclipsed the main games in MAUs. Maybe the last of us 2 multiplayer will work with free battle royale with heavy MTX then a low cost paid for typical team v team multi? Maybe 20 to 30 dollars a copy?

I could see that working perhaps, but Id bet the free to play battle royale becomes the focus for the studio in that case.

Shit, I didn't even think of that. Great point. Yeah, they are gonna charge for it. Maybe some starter pack thing or something at first.

They can then re evaluate as time passes.

Totally forgot about the lack of ps plus requirement for free to play. Thx for bringing it up.

I bet this releases with a possible PS5/PC version of TLOU2. Multiplayer on PC and PS most likely.
I would love for it too come out on PC
If they want the sales numbers it probably would do PS4/PS5 and PC
A PS5 Only would not be as lucrative, but at least a whole bunch of other features and potential gameplay changes would be possible.

Ps5 only would future proof it for the rest of the gen if it blows up. Its kinda late in the game designing a massive multiplayer game for last gen consoles

Destiny 2 is “free to play” but requires PS Plus and has $40 paid expansions.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends and Destruction Allstars are $20, require PS+, and were PS+ monthly games.

Sony are not going to allow Naughty Dog to spend like 3 years and 100 million making a game to then give away for free.

Jimbo says putting their games day 1 on PS Plus doesn’t make sense for them - cuz they want launch day sales.

I suspect Sony will try to make TLOU Online a $60/$70 game, just like GT7.

At 60 to 70 dollars, without last of us 2 story DLC included? It's dead Jim.

I could see them relaunching last of us 2 directors cut with story dlc and multi and I would bite.

They should do like Ratchet and Clank and include a few joke guns. It'd be awesome if there was one that changes your opponents genre and chooses one at random from 20. :)

Big doubt at this moment, its been nearly 2 years and nothing has been mentioned, i like naughty dog but they suck at multiplayer, dont get me wrong ive had fun with uncharted and last of us online but after afew weeks they just get boring, plus they arnt the best at balancing
