Microsoft—now trying to get its $75 billion deal for Activision approved—has taken a friendly role with regulators. (WSJ)

Side note isn’t activision the oldest video game developers/ publisher? They’ve been around since the Atari days for sure. I know Nintendo and Namco are as well.
Absolutely.
They also have a long history of developing and releasing games for MS-based platforms. Which is why this acquisition is just the natural culmination of a decade-long partnership.

Pot Kettle Black?
The only reason MS is on the regulators side is because it has no App Store like Apple or Google. It's main OS system platform (PC) is an open platform. The MS store pales in comparison to Apple, Google and even Steam when it comes to games and Apps.
But just because MS are slyly trying to stay on the right side of regulators does that make them any better than any of the other tech giants? Your defence and advocacy of MS makes you think they are. So maybe you need to get yourself in order before telling others.
I think you need to stop ranting and calm down.
Google is my friend?
Well I'm not gonna use Bing now am I?

You're so completely traumatized by Microsoft that you continue to spread uneducated FUD after being proven wrong with facts. Icing on the cake is you mentioning random Microsoft services like you have battered wife syndrome: "u-use Google? *sniff* well I'm not gonna use Bing now am I?" Talk about rent free 😂

Again, Microsoft has been targeted by regulators WAY before Google, Steam and Apple even had a store. Here you go again, obsfucating things with your fanboy stupidity whilst ignoring facts. I think you need to stop being so salty and calm down.

I love it how you got triggered by that Bing jibe.......

Fanboy logic 101: gets slapped with facts, has absolutely nothing to respond with so it's just "lol triggered" while being so blinded by salt and hatred you throw random insults that have zero correlation to anything at hand.

Again, I know it's too hard for your brain to comprehend since it's too overloaded with corporate shilling to have the capacity to use logic and reason, but it's hilarious watching you twist and turn to find ways to spin shit so I'll repeat myself.

Microsoft has been a subject of regulation to the point of almost bring broken up in the 90's. It's been three decades. Ever since then they've always lobbied to be in favor of regulation or at least make it seem so in their best interest, which is not unusual. This is an irrefutable fact. Either you're too young to remember this or are a fully-fuctioning adult that is choosing to ignore this and want to continue to pretend they're only trying to be "Good guys" because... of the MS store and ABK (lmao), due to your seething hatred of Xbox. And when told this time and time again, you choose to rant about random unrelated things about Microsoft like they give you PTSD or something.

Try harder.

Awww yeahhhh let's make a bet. If it doesn't go through I'll take a 1 month ban. If it DOES go through, you take the 1 month ban.

MODS, please see this and take appropriate action when needed.

I don't think it's going to go ahead guys, too much focus on Tech giants and their control in all manner of civil society. Sorry not sorry. And frankly for Xbox fans, I think it's dodging a bullet and welcome outcome for gaming in general.

That goes for any huge consolidation, not just MS by the way.

Risk is, having this blow up, MS may do the small talent based buy outs based on Sony's model. But that requires oversight and nurturing, not a hands off approach. See what happens.

Thats why i hope it goes through. I’d rather MS get tied up with activision and their mess rather than setting their sights on smaller studios again

Smaller studios need robust umbrella leadership nurturing them. It's obvious Phil just leaves them to their own devices which isn't working.

But yes, it would suck for MS to buy out small promising talent only to drive them it into the ground, killing any opportunity for them to flourish elsewhere. Prove me wrong Phil.

Sony's arn't choirs boy in all this either, shutting down Evolution, Japan, etc. But seemingly they are correcting that stupidity.

Why no questions asked?
Because its CCP and they can do what they want and get away with it. Tencent been buying up studios left right and centre...
I also love the hypocrisy of the US Senate, given its poor history of sexual misconduct, that's even before we move on to Sleepy Joe

And what happened with that complaint?
Maybe read the article? MS still using its usual bullying tactics on the small guys. Nothing has changed. No different to any of the other big tech giants. We know that people have their favourite plastic box but please stop trying to paint MS as some white Knight trying to do good for the little guys.....

Lol! It's funny how everything becomes CCP related. First the US went after Huawei (only because they were so far ahead in 5G) putting them on sanctions without ever providing any hard proof of their claims. Usual bully boy tactics. Now it's Tencent. Tencent allow games on all platforms. I don't see the problem. What has Tencent done that shows they shouldn't be allowed to buy or invest in companies?

If this doesn’t go through then surely Sonys deal for Bungie would also be in danger, as the market leader that deal will be scrutinised heavily to, i do think the Activision deal will go through though. After all things like Disney purchasing fox went through when they had not long bought Lucas film

The article literally said 1 sourced complained anonymously and that's basically it. They were wondering if anyone else was going to complain in the consultation and I was asking who did?

Microsoft does anti-competitive shit all the time, the browser crap on Windows 11 was a bit of a shit storm. I am also aware and sympathetic of the complaints from companies like Slack regarding Teams.

I am not a fan of Teams being bundled into the OS. Yes, so does Apple, Google, Amazon and Facebook.

But seriously, we need to post articles of real complaints that are going places instead of random ones that use clickbait headlines.

Bungie deal is 1/20th the value of the Activision deal so unlikely to be as high on the radar. Frankly I couldn't give a toss about destiny personally. But i's obvious Sony is following their usual path here of building internal Talent - of which they sorely lack in the GaaS space, as distasteful as it may be.

Buying bungie isnt their usual thing, lets be truthful here. Sony are reacting to Microsoft buying studios. i fully expect both the Activision deal and the bungie deal to go through, as i said the deal for fox went through with disney Which was as big this deal

Things have changed Since the Disney deals. If anything they were a test case to prove it's a bad idea to allow it.

Sony buying bungie falls more inline with wanting to fast track GaaS experience rather than reacting to MS, would have thought it plain to see even if ignoring multi billion deals not being able to be put together on a whim within days.

Lol do you think it was a reaction to Activision? No it was a reaction to the other big deal Microsoft did. As everybody here post after that happened it isnt what Sony do as they grow studios organically. Yes they need to grow their portfolio for online games as most Sony games are amazing single player experiences. The Activision deal will go through, where is the evidence you think it wont or you just thinking it personally?

So Sony bought one game? Not the talent to create new games in the genre? Despite signaling wanting to go hard in the area. Hmmm.....interesting logic you have there.

Yes theorizing is personal. But nothing can beat your unbridled "The Activision Deal will go through", I guess it's a done deal, close the thread - t98 has confirmed it outright, nothing to discuss.

When it comes to China and tbe CCP there's no such thing as a Private corp, it all belongs to the CCO.. And when it comes to the US Senate, they, re hardly clean when it comes to sexual and bullying allegations and it goes right to the Top. Sleepy is lose with hands and Harris loved to bully her staff, no wonder they're leaving her...

I base it on a multi-billion dollar company have made the offer with the confidence it will go through but Shmunter off the internet knows more than the huge company lol

end of the day if you came with with some genuine reason then fair enough but just theorising when you dont have anything to back it up is a bit silly Really.

i said about the bungie deal because if the Activision deal gets looked into heavily like you are suggesting they will have to look into all these types of purchases by Sony and Microsoft Otherwise microsoft could complain of bias towards sony. Yes the activity deal is much much bigger but the company was in trouble with how it was being run and potential downfall coming because of that.

Agreed. All the big tech are the same. They will use their dominant positions and cash on hand to bully or buy out any decent startup or company that threatens their bottom line.
My issue wasn't so much with yourself but people who think just because MS tread very carefully with the regulators they are some white knight company.

I think they tread carefully at the moment or seem to be on the topics that largely coming up because they benefit from the regulation that looks to be coming in place aka DMA and Open App Market Act (largely cause they haven't been able to get the MS store to be "successful" yet)

We have to judge Tencent on their current behaviour. Have they stopped games being released on a certain platform? Or shown bias towards one console and not another?
I'm not gonna start hating on Tencent just because they are Chinese.

Again, proving my point. No rebuttal after being slapped with facts, so you resort to lame retorts like a petulant child and then put the icing on the cake by linking an article that's completely unrelated to anything I'm saying in a desperate attempt to say "mIcRoSoFt bAd!" Just like earlier "bu-but...Bing!" Your obsession with MS is hilarious.

Spin harder.

My first gut reaction was they were responding to MS buying IP up. But the public statements and incentive component make me believe they legit just wanted the GAAS experience / talent. There’s so much money in GAAS, plus Bungie getting to stay as 3rd party publisher makes the claim very compelling.

If it doesn't Microsoft will have about $65 billion to spend on other acquisitions. If I'm a publisher I'm not taking some bargain basement deal from Sony. I'd wait a year see how the Activision deal plays out and possible increase my purchase price by a few billion.

Microsoft is doing both. They’re purchasing IP, but also investing in their own studios and building new ones. They just set up the Initiative, they’ve upgraded Undead Labs to AAA capability and have funded multiple sub-teams in Rare, Obsidian, Playground etc. the Coalition is reportedly working on a new IP aside from Gears.
not to mention partnerships with IO Interactive and Avalanche on new IP (Contraband, Project Dragon).
"they just set up the initiative". 2018 was 4 years ago mate.

Apples and oranges. Sony buying Bungie is more comparable to Microsoft buying Bethesda which wasn't scrutinized at all.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
But I thought it was a fact that MS has been on the right side of the regulator's since the 90's? This is fake news.....

EU is obsessed with screwing over american companies because they want their own BS

google eu regulators with sony,, microsoft or any non EU company and youll see how mentally ill EU is.

This is from a person living in EU.

That could be true, but at the same time they may start looking into more deals as they happen. Just a thought
