GTA 5 is still the king and still the best open world ever created!

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
Playing through this again on my ps5(been 6 years since I played it on my ps4) and every open world game just doesn't live up to the Massive scale of GTA5

-Hundreds of different vehicles and machinery to use: Hunderds of cars, Fire Trucks, Jumbo Jets, Construction equipment, Boats, bicycles, etc. etc.
-So many interactive events and things to do in the world: From Golf, Homicide, Racing, Flying, Shooting, PIcking up hookers, strip club, Gambling the list goes on and on and on
-Locations within the world feel dramatically different: From the ghetto's, to the rich area's, to the beach side, to the woods, to the boonies, waterways, etc
-The city feels alive. Npcs walking around living out their lives, having converstations, doing chores, etc. Reactions sometimes are spot on as well.
-A very smartly done and interesting storyline: Lots of twist and turns and a very good story that keeps most interested
-An online opponent still attracting others almost a decade later. Still ranks in the top 10 at times even to this day. GTA online is a monster!

I remember when rockstar caught a ton of shit for spending $250 million dollars making this game. The billions they have made later still proves this is the best open world game created. In fact, no open world game can hold it's Jock strap as far as diversity and the scale of GTA 5. If one were stuck on a deserted island and could only bring one game, it would be hard to argue GTA 5 is a bad choice.

Agreed. It really still is unmatched. Their follow up to this game is going to break the internet.

I was initially going to respond to your post seriously and talk about RDR 2 already doing so, but thinking further I actually think this is some next level sarcasm. Bravo if I'm right.

Civilians are randomly generated and have no routines, can kill anyone and nothing happens

Can't enter any buildings, loot system is non-existent, no items, no interactive objects, static world

Does not give you any freedom over your character's decisions

Everything is guided, every mission is this onrail movie-like experience, where you either drive or shoot something with cutscenes in-between...

Skyrim is the best open world ever.

Can you go into all of the buildings in Skyrim? Asking for a friend

I love how the second activity you listed is homicide.

I'd say it's the best facsimile of a real city ever created in a game for all of the reasons you listed. Unfortunately like all of Rockstar's worlds, while it appears vivid and alive on its surface there's little actual depth to it. Same with RDR2 - miraculously large with so much attention devoted to even minor details, but one essentially ends up merely looking at things for the most part. Maybe I'm explaining this poorly.

Can't agree because real world is relatively boring to me. Also, I dunno, Watch Dogs 2 was pretty good when comparing modern real world style environments, that would be a close call.

Not even close today imo. Although I didn’t really think it was the best even back in the PS3 days.

weRDR2 is better. Witcher 3 is the best.
Rdr 2 was great. It really brought the tail end of the wild west alive. Despite all that, it's scale is no where close to GTA 5.

Let's not forget that a lot of Rdr 2 is woods and small villages. While GTA 5 is a full city

Its one of the best open worlds for sure, but its not my favorite because of other things like gameplay and mission design.
The actual world though is great, it has good options for traversal and the sandbox elements makes roaming around fun.

I would put Elder Scrolls above it though, and also Breath of the Wild, but thats personal preference, i find it too realistic to be the top video game open world for me, and im talking about open world only here not overall game quality, but credit is given, in terms of City type open world in modern times (aka no fantasy or space) i think its the best one, for example i liked RDR2 more because of its story, but open world wise i will put GTA above RDR.

GTA V? Isn't that the game where you get arrested or murdered if you use your phone on the sidewalk, because proximity to NPCs is considered aggression?

every NPC in Watch Dogs Legion has a routine. GTA NPCs just spawn everywhere and have no purpose

U can interact with tons of things in Watch Dogs 2 compared to the few interactions in GTA

San Andreas has more open world activities than GTA V

nah.

pretty to look at maybe but the map is so boring to play in.

its not even in the top 10 best open world games.

GTA V is definitely sitting comfortably at the top of the open world food chain, but Rockstar really dropped the bag with the PS5 current gen release. They had a chance to add to add so much content to the single player side but instead it is just another coat of paint and more multiplayer features. Still they got another 10 dollars out of me 😂

All I have wanted to do for two damn releases is be able to cruise around in single player in a low rider with hydraulics or the jet pack and I am still denied (and I don’t want to mod the PC version).

The next gen patch on PS5 is spectacular. I am replaying it... didn't care for the PS4 release but 60 fps Fidelity RT option is superb.

What purpose having NPCs with routines in a massive city like Los Santos would serve? Same with entering every building. Not to mention how any of that would be technically feasable for a game released almost a decade ago.

I swear to god, people sometimes have the stupidest complaints about everything.

I prefer GTA IV myself but I hate cherry picking.

Well at least many people would not agree, that video you've posted is getting ratioed 49K to 44K (via Youtube downvote viewer plugin). Cherry picking is one thing, but It also depends on how they've picked. The video in my original post do have some valid points

Well, Saints Row 2, Prototype 1/2, Yakuza series, Judgment 1/2 (and others Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio games), Shenmue series, Ghost Of Tsushima, Nier Automata(!?), aren't the best open world in terms of a activities to do in the city, and the map aren't too big also.

BUUUUUT, they have the best fun factor and gameplay, what is the most valuable things a game can have, imo.

So no OP, not even close for me.

And please don't quote me with other open world games, because i know them and are not for me.

Its still holds up as one of the best open world games, to me what makes it really great is how good the sandbox in this game is. Especially in GTA Online with the amont of crazy and cool vehicles.

Story mode feels worst, and has the same linear problems as RDR2 where u fail missions if you try different aproaches. In GTA Online, the Cayo Perico Heist is the best single player mission Rockstar did in a long while. It can be started and finished in multiple ways, and as long you do the main objective, the game will not mission fail you for playing around trying new stuff.

The way i complete this mission solo in stealth, gives me alot of MGS5 vibes.

Yakuza series
Hmmm... Not sure about this. I absolutely love Yakuza (second favorite game series after Resident Evil), but it's not really open "world," it's more like an open... sandbox. And a very small one at that. The level of interactivity with NPCs and objects/buildings is practically non existent. You only get 3 discrete times during the day -- morning, evening, and night. No weather changes (I think in some of the games it does rain).

That is to say, I love Yakuza and all the side activities to do (SEGA arcade, bowling, karaoke, eating, etc etc...) And of course the playable characters and secondary characters are better than the GTA crew...

Are you referring to the completely empty worlds of the RDR series; I certainly hope not.
Empty? Did we play the same game?

I couldn't ride my horse in Saint Denis without bumping into somebody every few seconds. That city is packed.

And even more "remote" places like Strawberry, Valentine, etc, have a good enough amount of people performing very believable tasks. Of course, between cities/towns stuff is gonna be empty; not a whole lot of people living in the mountains or forests. Even then, you still get plenty of wildlife and also other riders passing you by (or you passing them by.)

A real masterpiece, and 100% still holds up today. I think both RDR2 and Elden Ring have surpassed it now for me personally though.

What I love about GTA5 is how interesting the world is, especially to me who has never been to USA yet grew up on 90's hip hop, I used to imagine what its like there as a kid and its fun to drive around listening to West Coast Classics, has a real vibe to it.

Im struggling with online though, it should be amazing but the way they built it seems anti-fun. I worked my way up to afford Maze Bank and a warehouse, and was enjoying buying cargo etc, until little shits in flying cars repeatedly ran me down. Cant enter passice, cant do the best stuff in a private lobby, seems like an aggravtion simulator!
