What the hell is going on with Halo?

So the long awaited Halo series came out this week and where is all the interest or advertising?

  • Nothing on Xbox
  • Nothing on Xbox's Socials, yesterday the fact that Xbox were sponsoring the French National Football team was the big news for them
  • Nothing in Halo Infinite
  • No crossovers in Infinite
  • Not even advertised on Gaming sites
  • Outside of the US, hard to find a place streaming it until the last minute
  • Speaking of which, you'd think you could by it Episode by Episode on Xbox

Did they just send this out to die?

I've not seen it yet (I'm in the UK so only found out that Sky is streaming it, and I hate Sky so the High Seas for me)

It had a lot of ads before several recent films at theaters here, but otherwise that's it outside of seeing stuff about it on YouTube.

Plus Paramount+ is pretty lame.

When they said they plan on revealing Master Chief, I already knew it would bomb with the core halo fan base and was aimed at people vaguely families with the franchise or just at Sci fi fans.

I'll still watch it once it's fully released but it's not something I expect to blow me away in any way but be a mediocre halo series. But I'll give it a shot to convince me otherwise.

The lack of interest is probably related to the fact it doesn't take place in the mainline Halo universe. So it basically adds nothing to the plot of the books and games.
oh yea that definitely soured it for me as well

Got some ads in Brazil, few tv spots and in some news/games sites, but more for Paramount+ than for Halo itself.
Watched yesterday and the CGI isn't consistent, the Spartans and scenery are good, the Covenant not so much, but the scenery and the 'actors' don't mix well sometimes, like the light around the background doesn't cast on them.
History wise is kind early to judge, imo, but I have low expectations since the last comments of 'not game based'...

I didn't even know it was out yet. I uninstalled Halo Infinite a few weeks ago.

The only new crap I watched on TV was Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard, both extremely terrible and nihilistic, poorly written, unwatchable shows.

I turned it on before my wife had to see Top Cheff last night...and she was upset it was not as good as Top Cheff

I thought for a second that we were watching Power Rangers.
We were watching A dressed up Power Ranger show

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
Non-canon.
Show runners are really getting inspiration from the games *supposedly didnt even bother getting a story overview from the games.
Its effectively fanfic that has nothing to do with mainline Halo shit.
Its not even Extended Universe its just some random shit using some Halo concepts and characters.

Its also Paramount+

So yes it was sent to die.

I've only seen it mentioned from people making fun of the CGI on YouTube. From the clip I saw, it looks just above Power Rangers tier.

There's a big ad on the Xbox dash for it and Gamepass subs get a free Paramount+ trial.

Nitty_Grimes

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Pointless to advertise something on a service that's not available in many areas of the world?

Paramount + isn't due to hit the UK until June through a Sky subscription I believe for example.

There's an ad on the bus station close to were I live.

I also received an Amazon Prime Video e-mail. Aparently, you can subscribe to Paramount+ or use the trial and watch through the Amazon Prime Video app/site.

But honestly being non-canon and rumors of Master Chief removing his helmet is putting me off.

I'm sure I'm an outlier and as a long time fan of the series since it's launch, and having read maybe 3(?) of the early books. I can say that the Halo show is exactly what I wanted it to be. Other than some of the questionable cast choices, which in itself aren't bad, but feel like a result of "woke-ism", I think it's a pretty great first episode. Commander Keys race change seemed ridiculous, but the actor playing him does a great job of projecting that military strength and worry one has when in the military, Miranda though...She's not well acted. Other than that, and maybe the way too early face reveal of Master Chief, I thought it was awesome. Can't wait to see the second episode.

It IS a shame though that of ANY of MSFT's first party titles that should have had cross-promotion, the friggin' HALO TV SHOW should have been at the top of the list on priorities.

Was that ever even speculated about? Or is it just something new to bash the game over.

If you want to call a blog post by XBox's Product Marketing Manager at news.xbox.com as "speculation" then sure, it was speculated about.

Most excitingly though, we’re looking forward to working closely with AMD to bring raytracing to Halo Infinite. Raytracing is one our top development priorities post-launch and look forward to sharing more soon.

It's not something new to bash the game over. That statement is 5 months old.

Halo as we know it has been killed off by 343i. They cannot sustain the game and the complete silence is speaking volumes.

The show runners for the tv series said fuck the games and books. And 343i said lol, ok sounds good to us.

It is early doors yet, barely 2 episodes have come out and lets not forget the development hell Halo movies have been in for the past 15 odd years, so even getting a TV series is somewhat of a miracle...(this also mirrors the fact that there hasn't been a Mass Effect TV series let alone movie..) the series has to find its feet...for me the barometer for any decent sci-fi show is if it is as good as The Mandalorian...this might not be in the first season, (I haven't seen it yet but looking forward to seeing it..)

Honestly been wondering the same about Infinite. Came out with so much positive buzz and momentum and feels like it's just dying on the vine. No one is talking about it.

I see ads for sky on my xbox dashboard here in germany, because paramount+ content is intergrated into sky. Halo series is in the thumbnail.

Plus saw the Sky Halo ads on multiple twitch channels yesterday.

Wait, are some of you in this thread serious? Why would canon or non-canon matter when it comes to advertising a franchise that you want more sales and brand recognition for? The Uncharted movie was non-canon too but Sony still supported it. Sega advertised their Sonic movie everywhere too.

I bee nwatching the March Madness tournament and they advertise the shit out of the show on there. Its hilarious watching the commentators talk and the "Halo Choir" humming behind them bangs in while they talk over replays of stuff thats happening during the games :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And they show the commercial like 390432942303902 times during the games. Dude playing Chief also made his rounds on all the talk shows and such too last week:

This thread is funny cause just last night i was telling the wife im a fan of Halo but im tired of seeing that damn commercial and the humming during/between/after the games lol. I think its cause the bigger games are on CBS and isn't that the company that controls Paramount+ where the show streams?

Available on Gamepass meant a lot of people would play it in the first month, and the lack of content means the multiplayer came and went, only the bigger fans stuck with it. There’s nothing to talk about and you won’t be seeing many lttp threads either because everybody played it already. That’s the nature subscription and gaas games…

Just like on Netflix, a hit show season comes out and everybody binges and then discussion dies until another season comes out. Thing is they can crank out seasons pretty quickly, not as easy with videogames, at all.

I was going to ask about Uncharted. I've seen a ton of marketing around the Halo show on my tv, on reddit and other websites. So it is being advertised.
The OP is talking about a lack of advertising ON the Xbox and IN-GAME on Halo Infinite. Which I believe is true. I don't think I've seen anything on my Xbox dashboard.

But in regard to Uncharted, was Sony advertising that on the PS4/5 dashboard? IN-GAME on the Uncharted games? Etc?

On the week it came out, it was front and center on my PS5 dashboard(which is pretty much a news section) when I turned it on. I can't account for what PS4 players have seen though.
