Hellblade 2 Quality Is “Through the Roof”, Ninja Theory Combat Designer Says; Combat Experience Different Compared to Its Predecessor

There are some interesting tidbits in this interview with one of them being that, apparently, the combat experience that will be offered by Hellblade 2, will be taking a different approach compared to its predecessor, including the need for players to use different attacks and combos. As also pointed out by the designer, the quality of Hellblade 2 will be on another level, and the game will feature “new stuff” that will have an important impact on the game.

“We're raising the bar of doing more with less”, Fernández said (roughly translated). “We're more people than the first Hellblade but the quality we're giving versus the team behind it compared to similar games, I think it's through the roof.”

He continued,

“What I like about Hellblade 2 is that it's a very unique approach, I think it's going to have an impact like Hellblade 1 but for other reasons, because obviously there's a lot of things that were new in the first game that will have less impact in the second game, but there's a whole bunch of other new things that will have that impact".

The designer then went on talk about Hellblade 2’s combat experience.

"What I was least satisfied with in Hellblade 1 was the lack of enemy variety, the long-range combat was stifled, and the balancing stuff, the way the difficulty systems were tuned, the enemies had too much life, they had too much durability and it got tiresome a lot of the time, we had a lot of variety of attacks and combos but the enemies didn't really encourage you to use one or the other, people found two or three moves they liked and repeated them constantly, there were very generous parries and story timings that could be balanced more intelligently”.

The combat in the first game was awful.
Hopefully they can drastically improve that.

And I hated the puzzle design too, maybe better more interesting puzzles (or none)

Thinking about it, I think I'm in the minority and didn't really like the first game that much, I feel it has potential, but it didn't do much for me.

I would personally prefer to see ninja theory make another enslaved game myself.

Hellblade is one of my most anticipated games but a new Enslaved would be incredible.

Not that I'm not excited to see more of Hellblade 2, but why would a developer shit on his own game? Of course he's gonna hype it.

What's annoying is that he's saying that it's gonna have more stuff and better stuff. But he never explained what those stuff are and how it's gonna be better. It's basically paragraphs of saying nothing. I'd rather he just shut up and let the game do the talking.

Are we really still believing things people are saying when they working on the game…….. it’s not like they are gonna talk shit on it
Developer is clearly stating what people were complaining about the last game saying he didn’t like that part of the last game meaning they acknowledge it. Yet you’re stating he’s just lying to lie knowing he’s being quoted. Why because this is Xbox first party so they’re liars?

uses 'M$' - What year is it? Not 2002.

Lmao why you bringing console war shit into this ? I never trust any developers or game designer hyping up their games

I enjoyed the first game for what it was; some of the puzzles were pretty cool, where you had to line symbols up, the atmosphere was pretty top notch, but the combat was pretty weak. I’m sort of looking forward to the sequel, but I certainly wouldn’t throw the word fun into the mix, if describing my time with the first game. I’m not sure if more of the same but with better visuals would cut the mustard nowadays, so I’m hoping for lots of positive changes.

Hm.. please don't hype this game any more.. it'll only disappoint. Just come out swinging next time and wow everyone instead.

uh huh. sure pal. It lists this under your name:

"uses 'M$' - What year is it? Not 2002."

gonna go out on limb and say, I don't believe you.
Yes I used M$ before you have not idea what the context was for what does that have to do with anything to do with developers not knowing to shut the fuck up and prove to me you made a better game? NO you’re just upset because I have feelings that you don’t like over a game you want to die on a hill for

I'm not the one that looks upset here.

May I ask what you thought was wrong with the puzzles?

Atleast trailer quality wasn't through the roof.
I hope they fix the janky animations from the "Gameplay" trailer.
Sounds were quite bad too.
