WHAT?

There were a lot of previews and people praising this game a lot this last week. It's not bad, but I expected so much more.

Early 2022 is a shark tank, this is not the time you want middling review scores. Maybe it should have been pushed back a month or two.

The trailers looked fun but reading some of these reviews it definitely sounds like a "wait for a sale or gamepass" kind of game
ACG saying the story is boring and the whole game controls like a walking simulator really diminished my interest. Was hoping it would be fast paced combat with tight controls and fun traversal.

As I once said in another thread, this game should have been a PS VR 2 game. It would have been super unique and proper AAA.

This combat with haptic feedback would have been cool. Imagine doing different types of finger movements to conjure different abilities and combat moves -- that would have been possible with PS VR 2 finger tracking.

Anyway ...

Now, Sony, give us a PS VR 2 first-person Doctor Strange game with similar mechanics. ❤️

I want the metal poster thing that comes with it, not sure I want to spend £59 on it though. I was looking forward to this one... Fuck it, still day one.

Speak for yourself, sir.

TEW2 was a much better game than the first one.

-

On topic, I'm surprised the MC is in the mid 70s, I thought this would score higher for sure.

TEW2 had awful controls, bad Leveldesign, generic gameplay, generic art style and bad enemy design.

TEW1 had unique game mechanics with more depth, way better controls without aim acceleration and about half the input latency, a better art style, better enemy design and better level design

TEW2 was a more generic game with worse design designed to cater to the masses by throwing everything out the window that could be seen as not casual friendly

Shame that his went through and not another Evil Within sequel, loved those 2 games.
Why is it a shame?

We have multiple people in here saying things along the lines of "Damn I love TEW 1 and 2, shame this won't be as good"

Wot? Based on what? TEW 1 and 2 are 75 on MC, same as this right now.......

Yall kids need to stop putting all your eggs into the media reviews basket, and just wait til u get a chance to play it.

Surprised the reception isn't more positive after the praise I randomly read. Will definitely check out on a sale at some point!

It’s funny how Metacritic has some double standards shenanigans for Games and Movies.

A 75 MC blockbuster movie is considered a huge achievement and automatically a surprise hit. A 75 MC game is considered a flop, unplayable, “buy on sale”, deeply flawed and other stuff.

I’m not surprised. It seemed like a mistake to me to go in this direction from the beginning. I really enjoyed both Evil Within games, but did not like how this looked from Day 1.

Lower than I thought. Didnt follow this game, but the preview video I saw looked slick. For Xbox gamers, it's coming later in the year. Just Game Pass it.

Thats because gaming is rated on a 6-10 scale. Movies arent. With movies, you get a big range of review scores on a standard 1-5 or A-F scale.

Even bad games games somehow get a 5 or 6.

On the flip side, would love this in VR, sounds like enough cool shit is flying around, that it would be interesting.

If that is how you feel then that is fine, but a lot of folks, including myself, look to reviews overall to make decisions on what games to buy. So no.....not useless at all in that respect.

so you listen to the opinion of people that often clearly hate their job, that are rushing through games in order to have the review ready for embargo day, that sometimes deduct points because of their political agendas and that often are too stupid to play games properly that aren't walking sims?

why? we are talking about people here who are sometimes literally too stupid to make circle motions on an analog stick (actually happened in a review of Wonderful 101 where the reviewer in question had issues forming the fist formation in the game that literally demands of you to *drumm roll* move the right stick in a circle)

we are talking about people that sometimes argue that they don't have to finish the games they review or engage with mechanics in the game and still think they are able to publish adequate reviews.

for every reciewer out there that actually likes what they are doing and actually wants to publish a well though out review there are 2 that barely can hold a controller correctly or are part-time activists that happen to alsoneed to write reviews to keep their jobs

There goes the publisher of the year-award for Xbox, similar to how Destruction All-Stars dragged down the average for Playstation last year.

Which is totally weird, IMO. A bad game should be below 5 to better picture its quality for the potential buyer.

No. All you need to do is find a few reviewers that have the same taste in games as you and then you use their reviews as a gauge to decide if you pick up a game or not. That's how I decide.

Pretty sure it's a cool game, currently sitting between 75 and 81.

Will it sell? Good video games don't sell anymore which is why companies have stopped bothering, but still going to be great fun like Deahtloop.

Not sure how old you are and how long you've seen game reviews, but back in the 80s and at least some of the 90s, you got a wide range of scores. PC Gamer would give games 20 or 30% out of 100% all the time. And old game mag my bros bought would gives Ds and Fs no problem. The second the internet popped up and became popular in the 2000s, game scores all perked up to minimum 5. Only a tiny number of truly bad games get under 5/10.

Given that, on a normal scale, it would mean 99% of games are at least average quality which definitely isn't true. But the gaming scale is not normal.

Someone even made this long time ago, which makes fun of it. LOL. Although not all media held to a normal scale. Old ass GamePro magazne seemed to give every game at least a 3.5/5 and Game Informer has always trended their games to 6.75/10 at minimum for almost all games.

You are generalizing wildly. I'm not going to buy games blindly and reviews and youtube videos help me decide which games I'll play. And I trust some reviewers more than others. This method has served me well so what's the problem?
