The hate she faces? Being a co star in acclaimed blockbusters and television shows and praised as a stunning and brave icon for changing her pronouns and walking around without a shirt? God damn, Hollywood is a different planet.

She probably means stuff she gets on twitter or Instagram. Transfolks ARE still getting hate and ridicule by everyday folks. Hollywood may support (in word) the trans community but the average straight person may not. I see it on FB and Instagram all the time ... Shoot, state governments are making laws to limit or ban even discussion about trans and gay folks.

Yeah, in schools, to kids grades K through 3. Kids of that age don't need to hear about anything related to sexuality be it trans, gay or hetero. Only pedos and degenerates want to talk to little kids about sexual things. Maybe cut down on the CNN propaganda that is meant to mislead people about the Florida bill.

If I had a quarter of the money, clout, and adoration someone like them have, people could be organizing online lynchings for me and I would give -43 fucks. I don't disagree that LBGTQ+ people get the raw end of things, often times by virtue of them existing, but let's not split hairs. In a realm as insular and self congratulatory as modern Hollywood, the biggest hate crime they've personally seen is not winning an award at the 2019 Annual What the Fuck Ever Awards. Were I trans, I'd honestly be pissed that I face an onslaught of remarks and judgements and this rich ass who seems to wear identities like costumes is bitching about the injustices they face and crying about a dude who beat his own ass to another rich guy while the audience of adoring fans applaud.

Awareness is good, but Elliot Page has an inherent leg up on at least 55% of the oppressed people they put on the Oscar bait waterworks for.

It also doesn't ban talking about it. It makes them liable to let parents know what they are indoctrinating children with. It bans them keeping it a secret, which only people with a nefarious agenda would take issues with.

Every taxpayer has a right to know. Transparency, amirite?

What happened to the guys that helped him set this up? The two black dudes that apparently worked as background actors and knew Jussie from working on Empire.

I bet they got a harsher sentence.

The only bill I know of that you could be talking about says, "prohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in certain grade levels" those grade levels being pre-k to 3rd. Heterosexuality would be prohibited as well by the wording of the bill. It doesn't prevent 1 on 1 or even small group discussions of said topics either. You can read the full bill here https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557/?Tab=BillText

People who hoax a hate crime should be hit with the full punishment of the hate crime itself.
The idea of a "hate" crime even existing is quite a silly concept. What difference does the motivation make for taking an action? If you punch someone because you hate the color of the skin vs. you didn't like the way someone looked at you, should you receive a greater punishment for the first scenario?

I can't believe how easily people have been sold on the ideas of "hate" crimes or "hate" speech even being a thing. Those ideas lead to exactly the kind of society we are seeing develop in front of our very eyes.

Oh I agree entirely, but unfortunately this is the world we live in. If the laws are on the books for these things to be considered especially heinous, then stoking racial tensions with hoaxes should carry the same penalties.

It's like, "war crime" when all wars being started are a crime.

As stupid as it is retrospectively, she did sound genuinely upset. Stupid, yup but her concern seemed genuine.

I still think she sounds like an idiot but i'd give her a pass on that as the truth wasn't known at the time. She should have waited instead of shouting her mouth off. Colbert even shook her hand. His lies were taken at face value.

His court scene shouting that he wasn't suicidal meant only one thing. He was terrified about jail and made himself sound suicidal on purpose I'm guessing. Lighter sentence, earlier parole, segregated? Fuck knows but he knew exactly what he was doing with that outburst. Just utterly bizzare shit, did he try an insanity plea? Honest question because that was so fake he had to keep repeating it, probably trying to convince himself more than anything.

Possibly the funniest shit I've ever seen when this crack pot stood up shouting I'm not suicidal, or something along those lines! Man, no one would even know who you are in jail! No one is coming after you. The only person who would dare harm Jussie is Jussie himself. And he knows that. He is just a narcissist and anyone wanting to know classic narcissistic behavior should watch his pathetic outburst in court.

150 days wasn't enough for this prick. People need to remember that he did this at the height of Trump's run as president when the USA was at its most loony thinking hates crimes were being committed everywhere. He near on caused riots so this sentence is basically a slap on the wrist. I'll never forget his interview just after the incident and him gloating about the fact he hates Trump- "I go hard for 45" was something close to what he said in that interview. And that's what this was all about- him bragging about his hatred of Trump and trying real hard to get points from other social justice idiots.

But they exist? You ever read a history book?

Does it have to be pointed out to you genocides that have happened through hate? From speech and also criminal activities of the slaughter of innocents?

Really, does it have to be pointed out to you?

Of course hate exists, did you even read what I wrote? Please read it again as reading comprehension is important. I don't think you even understand what a "hate crime" is considered to be, based on what you're saying here.

And please don't presume to lecture me on history.

I will reiterate the point. A crime is a crime, because of the action taken, not because of the feelings attached when doing so. A genocide is what it is because of the actions and the result.

The problem with "hate crimes" is they are generally being considered as "worse" crimes than taking the same action for a different motivation. That's why I say they are "not a thing." Yes those are my words, and they are reasoned and don't lead to the witch hunts we are seeing in society these days. There should be no difference in punishment for the same crimes based on the motivation. Anyone who thinks otherwise is part of the problem. The fact you quoted me and said "your words" like it's some gotcha, when you're not even understanding the point should give you pause.

AGAIN. I will repeat. If someone is assaulted over the color of the skin vs the dirty look they gave someone, is the first case a "worse" form of assault? Assume the identical outcome in injury. If you say yes, again, you are the problem.

And I will repeat again, the problem with "hate" crime is the fact you are taking feelings into consideration here. "Hate crime", as a result, becomes one step away from "thought crime," and if you don't think we are heading down that road either ... well ... you aren't paying attention at all.

So in conclusion, please read carefully what I am saying here if you are not getting it. Of course hate can motivate actions and criminality. But crime is just crime. There is no difference between genocide, murder, assault, robbery, etc. motivated by hatred, vs. motivated perhaps by greed, envy or any other ill willed feelings towards another person.

So, yes, I repeat and stand by this. "Hate crime" is not a thing, as society should not be dealing out extra punishment towards people for their thoughts and feelings. Only on their actual actions.

Like Jennifer Wilbanks? Maria Daly? Sherri Papini?

I'm only noting cases where there either no charges or they got no jail time, even though it could have meant someone innocent getting harassed, jailed or killed.

There was also Jason Stokes, a firefighter who "allegedly" set fire to his own home and blamed it on BLM ... He was acquitted by a jury even with some evidence otherwise.

The point is, the laws on the books in many states don't really deal with some instances of hoaxes other than "falsifying a police report".

Jussie got it because he really REALLY wasted police time, manpower, and could have caused harm to someone. Like the above cases. Plus, the DA WAS lenient to him. A no-no. Thus, he got his sentence.

A lynching is a hate crime. A lynching never happens because "i caught my spouse cheating and I got angry"

I'm going to presume those were all white people claiming someone of another race committed a crime against them for the sole purpose of their race, and that it was proven false by a police investigation.

If that was the case, then yes. I have no tolerance for it.

I sure hope you weren't hoping for an easy dunk with a race-swap.

Nope, i Wasn't because i laid out my point. I look into the reverse where a white person was blamed but just about every accuser of color was convicted and served jail time, from what I read.

Hmmm... lemme think about this.

- Decimation of people all over the planet for being 'not their type'. Not a thing aye? totally not.

The English hated the Irish, caused genocide, shit their daily newspapers had illustrations of Irish people as basically trolls whilst they starved them to death. They hated the Irish, we were shunned once people fled from famine.

You want me to do a list of people being wiped out by hate? Shit I don't think the character limit for posts would even touch the surface. Want an easy one though? Uighars?

Other countries also hated other people, don't make me state the obvious here. It's real, has been for as long as man existed.

What country you from? This ain't a gotcha, simply curious as it differs massively and we're not agreeing. So I'm curious, no offense to you intended. Just make the debate easier, i'm all for a civil one my good man. I mean that.

Did you not go to school? I was in kindergarten the first time one kid told me that another kid was gay, and it wasn't a compliment or a neutral statement. Society doesn't stop existing the moment kids walk onto a campus, the real world exists in school just as much as it exists outside of school. For many children, school may be the best opportunity they have to hear ideas that can counter bigotry that they are being exposed to at home. Bigotry starts with the biases of people's parents and loved ones, and it is taught and begins to be ingrained in children before they may even understand what and whom the target of that bigotry is. School is absolutely an appropriate place for children to learn what bigotry is, why it is wrong, what its targets look like and why they shouldn't treat people as lesser because they are different.

First, you don't get to decide what's hateful, bigotry, right or wrong for others.
Second, they're not your children.
Third, doing what you think is right does not justify your means.

100% agree.

The whole "hate crime" thing became big maybe 10 or so years ago. Not surprisingly as the internet grew, so did this kind of term.

Funny how if someone beats up another guy for being fat or ugly, you never see someone get labeled an abuser of "fat crime" or "fugly crime". Hate crime is basically 99% associated with only race and religion some reason when in reality there's a million reasons why someone can truly hate another. There could be endless bar fights due to big tough guys picking on and hating short people so they pick fights with them. Or someone who hates rich people. Never seen someone labeled a hater of different social class when doing a crime when in reality there's probably more people who hate rich people than racist or anti-religion people.

If anything, "hate crime" may be some form of premeditated crime where they're always thinking about it and ready to pounce. And this is what draws harsher penalties. But it would have to be proven a hater is planning it and always on edge to commit a crime.

Like it or not parents should get to decide what they want their young kids are taught or what is discussed with them in school particularly on sensitive subjects such as sexuality. Kids that age don't have the mental capacity to grasp such concepts and are very easy to influence. A woke teacher indoctrinating and confusing them against the parents' wishes amounts to severe child abuse, period.

I'd argue that there's a difference between teaching people to not use slurs, and say...telling second graders about gender fluidity and masturbation, for instance. One is not being an asshole, the other is closer to indoctrination, as you said. The Leftists tend to conflate awareness with drafting soldiers into their army.

I'm not American, but no doubt things are always blown out of proportion in the US.

Probably the only country in the world where if there's two people who look different in a scuffle, the first thing is determining if there was racial intent.

One part media, one part culture, one part social media whoring. I live right over the border from the US (more like 90 min away) and it's like night and day. If I travel across the border, you got bulletproof glass in fast food shops and taxi cabs. Chicago subways can be guarded by cops with dogs at night. And not one cop/dog per train. Like one pair every 3 subway cars. Go to a Buffalo Sabres hockey game and outside the arena at each corner is a couple soldiers with a rifle keeping watch and their humvee (I guess to chase down any crooks). Youd think you were attending a military recruitment centre.

First, you don't get to decide what's hateful, bigotry, right or wrong for others.
Second, they're not your children.
Third, doing what you think is right does not justify your means.
4th, I refuse to believe a child at 5 years old, on their own accord, who hasn’t even gone through puberty which initiates sexual attraction… knows that they are “gay,” “straight,” etc..

Leave children alone. Don’t talk about sexual adult subjects wether hetero, gay, poly, bi, or whatever subjects that are rooted in sexual preferences and orientation.

Sickos out there playing to your manipulated appeals of emotion.

Teach math, science, reading and writing. It’s up to the parents for everything else.

I agree and I’m gay, let kids be kids if problems arise then talk about the issue.
I'm not American, but no doubt things are always blown out of proportion in the US.

Probably the only country in the world where if there's two people who look different in a scuffle, the first thing is determining if there was racial intent.

One part media, one part culture, one part social media whoring. I live right over the border from the US (more like 90 min away) and it's like night and day. definitely due to culture and the media!
