PlayStation quietly pulls Gran Turismo 7 from sale in Russia

Sony has quietly pulled PlayStation's new blockbuster racing game Gran Turismo 7 from sale in Russia.

GT7 launched today worldwide, though is currently unavailable to purchase via the Russian PlayStation Store. Eurogamer understands the decision not to sell the game in Russia was made by PlayStation last night.

Sony is yet to formally announce the game's removal from sale, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment today. Ahead of GT7's release, PlayStation did not respond to repeated requests for comment from Eurogamer this week on GT7's status in the country.

GT7's Russia store page now displays the text: "Release date pending confirmation."

Sony's film distribution arm previously announced it would pause cinema releases in Russia, including the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, due on 24th March.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term "whataboutism", it is the logical fallacy where someone tries to discredit another by claiming hypocrisy without actually refuting or disproving the other person's argument.

Post counter-facts to what I posted. Have they stopped buying Oil?
How is punishing Russian Civilian non-combatant gamers sitting at home not taking part in the war doing anything?
Are the people acting at the will of the tyrant? What if you were caught in this situation where you don't support a dictator? Would you feel like you are being punished?

Just some thoughts. Peace and Solidarity has to be equal for everyone. Sad what's happening in Ukraine, but there are others wars in the world as well with equal suffering happening this very moment.
This post isn't to discredit Ukraine and it's suffering, but questioning the hypocrisy of our western countries also taking part in proxy wars in others parts of the world.

Guys calm down! I don’t know if most of you understand but Japan is geographically closer to China and Russia! Let’s not even go into the historical bad relationships they have.
A Japanese company making a strong stance against Russia is worthy of appraisal but it would have consequences.

Also let’s face it, Putin’s regime attacked a nuclear plant… they are reckless!!!

Me: good job sony, now pull all your services from Russia

You: but has Europe stopped buying oil from Russia!?

Classic whataboutism. If we were talking about them buying oil from Russia your point might have been ok. We weren’t though, it had nothing to do with the topic at hand as was being used to try and point out hypocrisy.

The fact that you posted a definition of whataboutism that directly showed it was what you were doing and then proceeded to try and say you weren’t doing it is amazing.

Imagine being that guy who makes it their duty to stick up for Putin invading another country and murdering hundreds/thousands of innocent people by trying to point out some perceived hypocrisy among companies that are actually trying to help resolve the situation. What in the world made you think that would be a good idea?

It's even more hilarious how you're using deflection through "wHaTAboUTisM" to discredit the whole idea of "sanctions". What the fuck is a videogame company doing in any way except to make it look like they are following a trend.
If economics was a forte, you would know that buying commodities is like giving them life. Go for the jugular, what are they waiting for?

500,000 BARRELS OF OIL ARE BOUGHT EACH DAY FROM RUSSIA, HERE'S 50 COPIES OF DIGITAL GRAN TURISMO RUSSIANS WON'T BUY, THAT'LL TEACH EM A LESSON.

Also, I asked direct questions, if you were on the other side of the coin.

Despite this shit, someone pointed out Japan and Russia, indeed for those who don't know, they have had a war as well.

Someone doesn’t understand the point of all of these companies pulling their products and services from Russia 😂

Is a term used by hypocrites as a shield to avoid anyone talking about them or providing important context. i.e. avoid a legitimate argument against what is being said.
Please do point out Europe buying oil from Russia has anything to do with my post.

Just because some dolt replies to a post about topic A with "but what about topic C?!" and I point out the obvious whataboutism doesn’t mean that I’m avoiding a legitimate argument. There was no legitimate argument to be had because what he said has literally nothing to do with what was being discussed.

It’s akin to saying “but what is Europe doing about the floods here in Australia HMMMMMM?!?!” when discussing Sony doing something in Russia lol.

The Russian defense force is out in full force now I see!

Can't reason or argue against facts: Check
I'm going to leave you at being a Troll without understanding Geo-political hypocrisy.

Summary to my Stance: Videogames, do not make dents in economy. No one is going to seethe on losing playing a game on one platform or another. You can easily circumvent this by making another account with another country's credentials.

I see the next thing this person has done is post an edit with calling me a Russian sympathizer. Hilarious. Just because I ask questions that are not favoring the narrative doesn't mean I favor Putin and his Army. Infact, this is accusatory to bring anger in people in logical consensus of asking questions. No one is this stupid mate.

Amazing 😂

So because Sony only sell games and services they should just wash their hands of it and not do anything to try and help stop a Russian warlord from invading another country and potentially starting world war 3 😂 Again showing that you literally have zero idea about the whole idea behind these sanctions and all of the businesses being encouraged to stop servicing Russia.

You Russian sympathisers are pathetic.

I don’t understand what is good about this. Random Russian citizen that works in a grocery store or whatever can’t play GT7 now. Whoopdy doo.

Either do business with them or don’t but I don’t see this hurting anyone but Russian civilian nerds.

Fox News is the best of the bunch, unfortunately. CNN and especially MSNBC are an absolute joke.

All of them are way more concerned about telling you what to believe and how to think, than actually giving you the news.
Never watched CNN america or that other channel. Your poor soul!
It’s sad how the media in America is so bias and political. Here in Portugal we have laws that all media must be unbiased no matter what! Same from the rest of Europe I think.
Every news organization is owned by the same people and they all have the same trash way of playing with your emotions, American or not.
Not in Portugal! We have a public tv station what we the people pay for and the government can’t meddle in! It’s called public service!
And no we aren’t communists lol 😆

well that's called alternative media and we have that too, but it's not mainstream.

Because Videogames and Putin have so much in common. Here's your classic whataboutism.

Here the public channels by law must be available to everyone for free! It’s so mainstream that the other channels do the same! they compete with quality, not personal views, agendas or to put fear!

It’s good because it’s a start and hopefully a sign that they’ll completely cut services and sales from Russia.

It's funny how companies are quick to pull sale of goods from Russians because of a War they didn't ask for initiated by their corrupt government, yet these same companies bend over backwards for China who's government is just as, if not worse than Russia's.
China isn’t currently invading another country, that’s the difference. People need to stop saying that nothing should be done about Russia just because nothing is being done about X, Y, or Z. It’s a bullshit argument that makes you look like an idiot.

You're right, Russia is just over here crossing imaginary lines. While china is committing genocide on people living inside their imaginary lines. Big difference.

“Imaginary lines”? Literally and physically invading another country is now “crossing imaginary lines”?

We’re not talking about China here. If you want to make a topic about China and their genocide and ask why no one is doing anything about it then go ahead, do it and we can and will discuss it. I’ll absolutely post in it!

This is about Russia though. Stop trying to make it about something else just so you can defend Russia.

No one is defending Russia, you and your insecurities need to go out the door.

"Oh boo hooooo, no one agrees with me and has a different opinion from mine, YOU MUST BE A DIRTY RUSSIAN COMMUNIST!"

You’re in here actively saying nothing should be done against Russia because not everyone everywhere has cut complete ties with Russia lol

Yes! Now those Russians will feel the pain!
I'm 100% in dropping services there, but taking one game is like pointless? It's kind shady, looks like only marketing, is taking a war suffering and trying to monetize on it? It isn't another tik tok trend to use as a spotlight, its literally war. That not only for Sony, it's all of then.

No shit, what else can I expect from someone who has no idea on how sanctions, geo-politics and economics work. Don't make shit up, I never said that, show proof? And so why haven't they 100% cut off? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

So far Sony seem to be the only ones that have half-arsed their sanctions. Microsoft have basically cut Russia off from everything, as have every other company I’ve seen that has done anything. Hopefully Sony escalate this to a full product and services level asap.

My very first post in here was saying I hope Sony do 100% cut them off, so we can agree on at least one thing.

Yes, I'm not talking about only gaming.
I think in this situations you can abstain or go full. If Sony didn't nothing, it's ok. It will not change the course of war. But if you do, go fully.

100%. Not selling a single game there is almost worse than doing nothing tbh.

Sony done them a favour. Russians have their own hyperinflation to worry about in real life, they don't need GT7 on top.
