Bungie will ban players who play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Man that's super harsh. Seems they might be fine if Steam Deck players play it through Windows but who's gonna try?

Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running. Players who attempt to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short time.

Players who attempt to bypass Destiny 2 incompatibility will be met with a game ban.

Is this an anti-cheat measure?

What a Fuck move. Sad to see, I love Bungie and with the Steam Deck I was hoping to jump back into Destiny 2 as I haven’t been playing it on my PC/Xbox/PS5 lately, but portability would’ve had me lured back in. Hopefully they change their minds on this or work with Valve directly on the matter.

People love to say that shit these days, grow up. If you think of yourself as a consumer, then you already dead boy
To get back on point instead of writing to me, like I'm a kid.. - Proton is only a layer for Linux to be able to run Windows apps. It's not like there's a lot to do besides that. Even if someone made cheats for it, it would be recognized as usual "Windows" cheats.

Proton supports CS:GO, natively - and that's got some heavy cheaters on Windows.

Bungie is just being stupid as usual.

Not a Steamdeck or Linux fanboy but that's just lame.
If people pay for your games who cares what they do with it? Maybe I'm just getting old.

Its anti consumer, period. No need to defend their shit. This is pure garbage. Blocking a platform, because they arent running windows. That is just pure shit. They fucking allow stadia to play the game. What is wrong with steam deck?
How so? Is the motivation anti cheat? It’s an online service, and if the steam deck allows players to get away with cheating that is prevented on windows, this device would allow players to ruin the experience for everyone else.

Isn’t that pro consumer to prevent that?

And it’s not that the steam deck is banned. It’s proton. You can play on the deck if it has windows. That seems more than fair if it enables equal footing for all players.

Give me a break.

Edit: Also, putting all of your warring under the guise of being the champion against “anti consumer” behavior is silly. First off this nowhere even close to that. Secondly, the idea that the consumer can do anything they want with something they buy is equally ridiculous.

How can you cheat on steam deck? Cant they just work with Valve to fix this issue, instead of just banning the users?
They litterally had time, until steam deck release to work with valve. Yet they didnt. I call that bullshit, that you can consider that cheating. That is just lazy devs.

Is it pro consumer to only release games on consoles, cause cheating is a bigger problem on PC?
Has there ever been registered cheaters through Proton?

It can be "pro competitive gamers" but pro consumerism is all about availability.

How do I know if Steam Deck allows you to possibly cheat? And like I said, it's not the steam deck, they clearly state Proton, or anything else running Proton. Steam Deck running Windows is fine. And that's also the point. I clearly don't know what the problem is, and you don't either. Asking questions like "can't they just work with Valve" is akin to asking "why don't they just flip a switch?" as if collaboration is easy, and instant. This goes back to the concept of business needs, which some users here so clearly do not understand that they either must be children or low level workers. The number of people buying Steam Deck is going to be a tiny drop in the bucket compared to where Bungie's customers actually lie. If Proton enables cheating or is capable of basically enabling undefined user behavior, and it is a better option to just cut that off, that's what they will do. People are not owed support on any platform that they want. Companies, even big ones, have limited resources that they must allocate. Your statement of "calling bullshit" makes no sense, and the fact that you take it another step to blame "lazy devs," when I guarantee you would never be able to hack it as a programmer, is ridiculous. You have no idea what the profession entails, because if you did you wouldn't make these kinds of statements. I always find it ironic when gamers, of all people, accuse professionals of laziness. Why do you act like such an entitled stooge?

That's your definition of "pro consumerism" which is also completely arbitrary. By that definition Mario games are "anti consumer" because they are only available on Nintendo platforms. Pretty sure that concept is hogwash.

Pro consumerism can be split into segments, sure. Like I'm mainly a PlayStation guy, so I know the benefits of only having games made for 1 or 2 hardware setups - optimization - that's good for those who buys Sony's consoles.

But "pro consumer" is an inclusive term and per definition it's all about availability.

I don't agree with that at all. Again, that's a random definition that IMO doesn't have much meaning, but it's really not worth arguing over.

Just for the record, here is what I think is "pro consumer."

Offering a great product to the buyer at a price that clearly delivers value for that buyer. Offering great support for that product so that the buyer can have confidence in their purchase. If something goes wrong, they know it will be made right one way or another, without hassle and without worry. Support the customer so well, they will want to return when they need something similar in the future.

Those are "pro consumer" attitudes and principles. Availability is neither here nor there really. That's like saying MS buying Bethesda and Activision were "anti consumer" when it was a competitive business move. What if StarField ends up being far and away the best game of 2022? Is it still anti consumer because I can't get it on PS anymore? Again, that's just not a thing IMO.

Consuming is not about money. It's the availability to be able to "consume".

It can be about money, but it doesn't have to. That's why open-source projects are some of the most pro consumer things we have in this world - sharing with little to none obligations.

you guys here have fun arguing and trying to find things that validate your agenda!!!

I’m going to play some games!

They don't want to pour resources into getting anti-cheat working on other operating systems. Which on the one hand is kind of fair, but on the other hand anyone who isn't supporting the push to get off Microsoft dependence is hurting the industry. And what was it, 3.6 billion they sold for? So maybe I don't even buy the resource excuse.

And cheating in Destiny. Who cares? First and foremost it's a PVE game. Seriously, just let them run it and if they try to play one of the PVP modes say sorry you need to be on another platform that we currently support anti-cheat on.

Bungie are hypocrites say they want to put game on all platform and that they don't believe in exclusive yet does this lol what a joke
