The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Gets Nintendo Switch Release Date

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Having played on the original hardware and 3DS, I'd still take the 3DS remake every time. I get that they mildly messed up some of the aesthetic but those QoL improvements and not having to play at 20fps with dips? Nah. Same goes for OoT. Just a shame they're stuck on the tiny screen without emulation.

Great game, at least in my memories. Haven't played it in ages, hopefully it's more than just nostalgia.

This means we won't be getting another remaster will we? I fucking hate playing my 3DS.
Why man? The 3DS is pretty cool for Zelda games - you can play every single home console and heldheld Zelda all the way up to the Game Cube releases;

TLoZ
The Adventure of Link
A Link to the Past
Link’s Awakening
Ocarina of Time
Majora’s Mask
Oracle of Seasons
Oracle of Ages
The Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
A Link Between Worlds

All on one machine that’s pocketable. It’s pretty cool IMO.

The OG Dark Souls cometh :lollipop_sunglasses:

J/k but I sometimes wondered if MM in any way inspired Miyazaki and From on some level… Im thinking about the guy at the bottom of the stairs and the dark mystery surrounding that and the whole Moon falling down thing and then the repeating cycles. Its sinister in the same way that Dark Souls turned out to be. And you are basically equipped and play your character in the Dark Souls games pretty much like you play Link in the Zelda games. A sword, a shield, a bow, and spells. All on the d-pad cardinal directions.

Its just that From added a whole Dungeons and Dragons worth of player and monster manual stats to their games.

So I wonder if Miyazaki played Majoras Mask, and went down the stairs at some point and looked into the darkness below and thought «Hmm maybe …»

Oh I loved everything about the console.

Except that slider pad. Fuck it was a piece of shit. Never felt silky smooth, the way a stick should be. It had this weird resistance to it, like a mild form of nails on a chalkboard.

I upgraded from my OG 3DS to the new version and it was the same.

What a low effort port...Pretty fucking shameful to be fair, which is shame as it was my favourite Zelda game back in the day.

I have tried to get into this game so many times. I end up hating the game every single time and quit. It is just not for me I guess.

I never played this Zelda game and always wanted to, but from what people are saying here I’m wondering if it’s a good thing that I never experienced it. I’m sure I’ll try it eventually.

Only the best game ever made. I checked the trailer, and the comparison and they seemed pretty much identical to the N64 original. Even the fog, which was previously a problem with Ocarina of Time. I wonder if that'll be also fixed with this updated.

Wii U will still be the definitive way to play those. Having a map on your controller probably saves you thousands of button presses across the full length of the game. Especially in dungeons, or when sailing.
I'm not disagreeing with you per se, but from my memory of gamecube (and i have a GameCube switch controller) it wasn't much of a chore to check the map.. up on the d-pad or something... The weird ergonomics of the wii u game pad thing kinda nix it for me

Yeah, they'll be fine without the controller map, like you said.

But having the map always available just saves time and works so well for the dungeons. Same thing with the 3DS Zeldas. It's a feature I'll certainly miss. When sailing as well, you're constantly doing miniscule adjustments to your sailing path and on Wii U you can just watch the arrow for your character turn on the map in real time. Just much easier and faster.

Yeah that dream is over. I thought we’d get a OOT and Majoras Mask 3D/HD collection fo the anniversary last year.
And maybe Wind Waker and TP HD ports but Nintendo is the damn worse when it comes to logic

It makes next to no sense to me on why they wouldn’t use the 3DS port instead of the N64 one. I have no want or need to play this version.

This subscription is so expensive just to rent these great games. Just buy a N64 and the actual games on ebay. Will end up being cheaper in the long run and you get them forever. Shameful Nintendo, just shameful...

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
First off, don’t say that Majora’s Mask is a bad game, it’s 3DS remaster sold out, but it is just for a certain type of gamer, Majoras Mask might not be even ok for casual Zelda gamers (side quests that you must be patient for, the fact you’re under a time limit etc.) a lot of hard work was put into this game. I played the original gold cartridge, 3ds and the 2016 Wii U version.

The game is a powerhouse of originality and was apart of the 90s early 2000s gamings golden years and I’m surprised it hasn’t influenced other Zelda games like wind waker and tp have.

3DS remake is worse in many ways. The video is worth watching, Nerrel is hilarious and does great research on things.

I haven’t watched the video, but I vividly remember two things being worse than in the original: Zora swimming, and the changes they made to boss fights (mostly the first two actually, Gyorg is mostly the same and Twinmold is arguably improved). The rest is mostly the same save for a few items switching places, and gyro controls are so good it’s very hard to go back to the N64 originals after you’ve played the 3DS versions.

Yea, Nerrel goes over the Zora swimming pretty in depth as well as the boss fights, other things too like the momentum you carry into the Link Deku Scrub when you spin off a lily pad and bounce into the water, the 3DS version halts your momentum.

I've never played it myself, mostly just brought it up cause someone was saying they should have ported the 3DS version to Switch.

Zelda games arent made to be rushed through. The 3 day time limit bullshit is why i never fully did and never will play through this one. I tried once back in the day, hated every second.
