Publisher Curve Games and developer Neon Giant will release cyberpunk action RPG The Ascent for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 24, the companies announced.
Pre-orders are available now and include an exclusive RPEG 33 energy-type Rocket Launcher with a unique laser sight in the console family’s signature blue color.

The game is "Good enough" but you should really play it for its absolutely incredible Art Design. Everything about this game looks fantastic. It is my favorite sci fi setting of any game to date. No game quite matches it.

Awesome. In my top 5 from last year, also most severe issues happening in multiplayer have likely been resolved by now. Go for it team blue

I didn’t try it when I had game pass, which I slightly regret, but the reviews weren’t exactly brimming with praise. Whether the experience on PS5 is different enough (dual sense support/QOL improvements) or not to warrant a purchase remains to be seen, but I’ll keep my eye on any news.

It's worth playing then, guys? I got the impression that NeoGAF mostly loved it, though there were some issues, such as it becoming repetitive later on?

What does that even mean? I played it in coop and it was just okay. Story was garbage tho.
The game is criminally underrated. I can't think of any top down game that even slightly compares to this in terms of graphics, art design, cyberpunk asthetic. The gameplay is a ton of fun. The story isn't mindblowing, but the work they put into world building rivals Mass Effect and could be an expansive series, with tons of races, politics, history that could be explored.

I have no idea how anyone calls this game just "okay." It's literally like looking at a moving Akira comic come to life. It's like what you imagined the pre-rendered backgrounds looked like in FFVII in your head, only it's all 3D and looks 100x better. It's one of the most detail-rich games I've ever seen visually, with some of the most complex urban hubs ever in terms of verticality, NPC density.

Show yourself out, and don't let me catch you in here again sir.

Issues imo:

Bad menu and the map is a little confusing at first

Got 1 or 2 quests that I couldn't finish because I hadn't advanced enough in the main quest

Upgrades for weapons are ultra rare,

Sure there's something I'm missing, but I still recommend it

Sadly the incredible atmosphere which, trust me, I aknowledged even on my steam review, could not carry the entire game on its shoulders.

I gave it a 7 and even tho whoever designed the levels and the details needs a fucking raise, the rest of the team, need to do better. Writing was shit, ending gave me borderlands 1 flashback nightmares, a lot of useless mechanics, tons of bugs(mind you I played it at launch in coop) etc. Maybe its a better game now, but I doubt the story improved.

Brilliant game, just don't go in expecting diablo rpg/loot game. That's not what this is, it's and overhead shooter with minor rpg elements and a weapon upgrade system.

That is the main reason I want to buy the game. I just love the visual style of this game.

I mean, that's fine. The story isn't really that great but it's not bad either. Some cool future / corporate dystopia elements I thought were neat. The game did have bugs, but hopefully they're pretty much fixed now. I only experienced minor audio bugs that were fixed by just closing the game. For a game of this scope, I thought the writing and voice acting was totally fine.

I just can't stress enough that at multiple points throughout the game, I was in disbelief at the quality of art / graphics I was witnessing. Just phenomenal, well above and beyond what I expected from this type of game.

The game falls on it's face hard at the end becoming essentially SMASH TV. Just fighting waves of enemies in multiple instances where cool bosses would have been a better fit. Considering how much I enjoyed the game up to that point it was a big let-down.

Enjoyed the game but never ended up finishing it. Should give it another download. I'd imagine it has been patched a bunch since release.

I still haven't checked my PC version to see if they fixed all those shader/other reason stutters (which werent present on the Xbox versions at all), might just forget about that and buy the PS5 version because I can't be fucked pissing around.

Launch day for this game was a big disappointment, coop didn't work properly, had stutters that couldn't be fixed by capping fps to 30 or lowering settings/res to min, but I'm still eager to play.

Maybe I should give this game another chance. I put an hour into the game on Xbox and it didn't really click.

One of the best games I ever played, despite some minor flaws the gameplay is 10/10, and that's what ultimately matters. The world, the visuals, the sound/music, all top-notch. Highly recommend it to everyone.

I really liked the story, more than in most (all?) modern AAA games where it's as usual you vs the world, only you can save everything and everyone, nobody else because reasons... Here you're just a cog in the machine, doing orders up until the credits start to roll, you just tend to be in the wrong place at the wrong time which does lead you into the whole center of the events, everything is just so down to earth and believable, the characters, how they talk, how they act, everything just fits the world.

I really was hooked as well. I didn't want to hype it up too much since it's not an amazing story, but I thought it was all pretty cool. Ends on a cliffhanger too. I want Ascent 2 and to see more of this extremely interesting world they built. So much of the dark corporate dystopia stuff is just done amazingly here.

Wtf is this? I've never heard of it, looks stunning. I'll have to remember to check this out.
It was one of the games featured at the infamous XBox show in May 2020, when everyone was just waiting for Valhalla and complained about every other game because they were not AAA level and too much cutscenes shown...
from todays point of view the games were not that bad, it was just Microsoft somehow managed to kill any excitement by the way the show was structured (like commentary from the laundy room and such)

More than worth it! It was in my top 5 in 2021. One of the best looking games last year as well. If you like old school twin stick shmups and action RPGs you really can’t go wrong. They overused a few boss fights but in the end I still think the critics must’ve been drunk when reviewing it or something, or maybe it sucked without the day 1 patch idk 🤷‍♂️

Regarding the PS5 port, it could be absolutely amazing if the dualsense haptics are well made. It was good enough on Xbox, and it has such a punchy sound image, sync the beefy guns with the haptics and we’re in for a sweet sweet ride! 👌

Geez, no wonder I didn't hear about this game. I don't have an Xbox so I don't tend to watch these Microsoft showcase things, I will say though this game looks amazing.

True, if it's as good as neogaf says, then why was it given for free? Good games sell. Very sus.
I assume by 'free' you're talking about Gamepass?, and i would of thought that recent review chart about Gamepass games would of ended this false falacy.
Anyway the game is very good and well worth playing. Easily in the top 5 best looking 'next gen' games too so far.

The gameplay can be generic if you yourself decide it be that way. But there are enough costumization, skills, weapons and different tactics to avoid the game from ever becoming stale and repetitious.

That's my biggest complain, there's simply too many fun weapons/skills/equipment while you can use only so few of them at once. Wish there was at least a weapon wheel to be able to switch between 4 guns during gunfights.
