ELDEN RING | Reviews Mega Thread

So, any word on which console version is better? I have a PS5 and XSX so not sure which to get it on. I think I have more HD space on the PS5 though.
I hear ps5 version is better right now but there is a day one patch. Who know if it increases performance.

There's so many Elden Ring threads already but I'm wondering what folks are planning on playing class-wise. Right now that is my biggest dilemma

But you can't climb everything, anything really. Fake news.
while this is a troll comment, it is true that elden ring will have to make traversal fast and natural enough that it doesn't get bothersome after a while.
i saw that you get some stuff to help you with that late in the game, but i don't know how effective it would be.

in terms of botw not realizing its ow potential, i think he refers to the comparatively lacklustre amount of unique location with something to do in it...botw loves to give you ruins but ruins is all they are and all you can do is pass through most of the time, which is a shame

there's also one regarding what classes will people start with if you search enough.
for myself, i like dex builds, so it's between warrior, samurai and prisoner.

warrior is kind of the middle point, samurai comes well equipped and prisoner is comparatively poor in that aspect but has a way better stat per lv ratio, and so after a bad start can probably be a lil more powerful endgame wise..also it has a good amount on int as well, so you can go for an hybrid dex/mage

No real critic or journalist should have genre biases, it's about experiences, not genres, true gamers can play anything and see value in it. Putting fanboys to review games ruins the whole point of reviews, it's long been the reason for dissonance between JRPGs fans and normal RPG fans.
Sure, let’s put people that hates sports to review sports game! Let’s put people that hate fighting games to review street fighter. It’ll make complete sense!
NOPE.
The reviewers should be into the genres so they’ll have the necessary sensibilities to understand the games.
And let’s make one thing clear: people without any kind of bias whatsoever don’t exist.

Just because a fanboy doesn't review a genre, doesn't mean you need to put people who hate it to review it. Everyone has some bias, but that doesn't mean you can't find level-headed people who like games as a whole.

Disagree. It's completely counterproductive to put non fans/non interested people to review a game they don't like. What would be the purpose of that? New perspective? Nah

as they should. No point in putting people that don’t like the genre/games to review them.
Do you want an echo chamber!? Ever played a game that got 95+ and thought what were they thinking? You are gonna continue to get this if you JUST allow fans to do reviews.

Secondly everyone at some point wasn't a fan of souls at some point an then they played it and they were. These group of people are growing with every release so they should probably be catered too.

Maybe people that hate a genre shouldn't review a game but newcomers, people that were lukewarm in the past and people that haven't tried the series in a while absolutely should. The criticism will be more varied and better as a result

If they like games as a whole, they like the genre. You defeated your own point.

I want people that understand the genres to review the games. There’s no point in putting people who know nothing about JRPGs to review Xenoblade.

Great your catered to in fact it's the default. You have tons of choice about where to get your game criticism.

What about people that are interested in playing Xenoblade who have very little experience with JRPGs?

They might see value from a review from someone in the same boat as them.

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
Wow, it's embarrassing just reading that. I swear the entire journalistic row of gaming is just people who were dragged in from the trash from the nearest container.
And yet here we are blowing loads over the review scores. Can't have it both ways.

Considering Souls games have been going for 13 years, it's probably quite hard to find members of staff who don't have experience with Souls games, whether they loved or hated them. Unless you're just starting out, frankly it would be pretty embarrassing to be someone paid to play video games and to have NOT experienced one or more by now considering the industry impact they've had.

Frankly I don't want someone that's inexperienced with a genre/subgenre telling me about a game, I want an """expert""" opinion, the word being used very loosely. I don't play JRPGs much but I want the big JRPG fans to recommend to me what they consider the best JRPGs, not someone who played literally one and thought it was great. I can do that myself. If longtime Souls players band together and say "this is the best one yet" then that information is absolutely valuable to someone who's not played any.

Bloodbourne was awesome start to finish, I didn’t like Sekiro as much as some and I never bothered to finished it yet. This game seems like It will be the greatest game I haven’t played . I kind of laughed at the defining a generation hype but guess they knew what they had, good for them I hope they finally get a huge seller.

Because you have no base to make an assumption. Other than wishful thinking that is. You’re hoping it happens. And it makes no sense given the hype and install base. You should make your peace with already.
Just as much base to assume it won't as you do to assume it will.

As someone who has clocked in 100 hours + (40 pc and 60+ ps5) I will tell you this right now - be prepared to drop your controller on the floor along with your jaw numerous times. If Displate doesn't create posters out of some of the locations from Elden Ring. I will riot. Sometimes you won't even want to leave the area and just stand there or sit on your horse. If you have guests coming over to your house, a very large good HDR 4K TV with combination of Elden Ring will create some beautiful gigantic display potraits for your walls that will make them question you where did you get such pretty images. This game is literal moving Roman paintings.
ugh.. gonna have to play on pc coz I STIL CANNOT FIND A FUCKING PS5

I won’t assume anything at all 🤣 I’m just pointing out your wishful thinking is sad. That is all. I honestly don’t know why that is so important to you. Sony will make vasts amount of money from both Elden Ring and HFW either way and I’ll gladly play both. The joke is on you, buddy.

We don’t need people who don’t understand a certain genre to review those games. It adds a bunch of nothing and unfair criticism. Do you think they put people that understand nothing about sports to watch, present and review sports? That makes no sense.
Same with movies. To review stuff you have to understand stuff.

the best game of all time in opencritic cant keep a stable framerate, that says a lot
Elden Ring performs better than almost all of the games in the top 6 did when they released.

BOTW, GTAV, RDR2, GOW, all targeted 30 and some didnt maintain that. Odyssey is the only one that was smooth in that top 6.

that still helps my case lol, the "best games" in average dont have good frame rate, doesnt make a whole lot of sense

Yeah just pointing out the unfortunate reality that gamers as a whole don't value performance (based on sales at least), so this is what we end up with. combination of lack of focus on optimization and hardware that's often outdated before it even comes out - though regardless of the hardware devs will always push it too far for the marketing materials. can't see 60fps in a still screenshot.
