Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen upgrade gameplay PS5 and XSX

I was there, it’s an active board, lots of devs. But in the end the moderation completely ruined it. I essentially had schizofrenia at the end from having to create an alternative politically correct persona just to dodge bans. Worst thing, what they get so triggered by is hardly even understood outside the US. It’s so weird for an international board to be that one-sided with such harsh moderation. Once I got a month ban simply from being excited about Cyberpunk… in the official thread… at launch… I never returned. Imagine mods here banning people for being excited about Horizon Forbidden West at launch in the OT.
I left Era during the Cyberpunk release meltdown. It was impossible to talk about the game for what it was. You could only write that it was transphobic and made by nazis. It made me sick to see gamers being banned for being excited about the release.

They live in a total mind-controlling dystopia.

Ok so I just started playing on PS5. I haven't played since I stopped in early 2021.

First thing, has the stick acceleration always been a thing? I don't remember that from when last I played but I might be mistaken. It's really off-putting. I had a quick glance at the control options and nothing immediately stood out as a way to disable it.

Help.
There's an "advanced options" box in controller settings you can tick and then you can change it.

I cant get this to update to ps5. I have the ps4 game installed from the disc, but I haven't got anything where to update it free. Not pressing down and right (it has price of 25€ there), not in the library either.
I installed it new from disc and somehow I found no other way then to install the PS4 version from disc first.
Then on the PS4 version there was a kind of advertising on the right side of the screen to upgrade free to the PS5 version.

And now a new batch of people get to enjoy the wonders of the song: ‘Ponpon Shit’. This song is sure to hit #1 on the charts now and if not…then people are stupid and have no taste in music.

Playing the trial on PS5. Awesome so far. Probably wait to buy it once they get more updates out.

Anyone else feel like motion blur is always on? I turned it off but I still get the feeling its active.

Panning the camera in 30fps though… terrible.
Graphic settings are bugged. Turn them on and back off.

I did and still the same effect. 🤷‍♂️
When I switched from performance to quality on XSX, even though I had things toggled off, they all came back on. Had to toggle them on and off to fix this. Not sure if you are experiencing the same thing or not, but lens flare is the easiest to test this with as it is glaringly obvious. That said, if you are in quality mode, it just may be that that mode is awful imo.

The thing with RT is that precision and "physically correct" lighting/shadows doesn't always automatically look 'better'. Sometimes it's just more correct. Sometimes you wouldn't even know what's correct and what's not because in some scenes, especially with a lot of direct and indirect lighting from different sources always interacting with each other; who can tell, apart from physics experts, how should it be 'correct'?

That's the reason why in many scenes RT just looks 'different' and it's hard to tell what looks better. Damn, even in real life I think sometimes "this shadow could be sharper!" when looking at very subtle and fuzzy shadows from tree leaves cast by the sun. In a video game you would say "this is so low res and blurry!" but that's reality sometimes. Physically correct is sometimes very boring, that's my many movies, books and video games (especially set in space) take a lot of liberties.

And then you have sequences like this:

where it is very obvious that RT looks better by a mile.

RT Lighting is the only RT that matters.

I'll be downloading the trial....didn't even know about it, until one guy on Youtube who gave his thoughts about the "New DLC" mentioned that it was available...

I'm 100% certain that they could have put in RT Lighting / Reflections if they have tweaked the settings a bit instead of choosing "Ultra" preset and being done with it

For example: SSR Quality has huge performance costs, but negligible differences from Low to Ultra on PC

Same for AO and many other settings, as presented on the DF analysis at the time of release

Mister Wolf Mister Wolf , exactly.

And RT Lighting at Medium setting is not that much expensive than RT Shadows, for example

I don’t know what I was expecting, but it was more than a standard next gen enhancement.

I thought the reason it had took them 15 months was because they were making radical game play/game logic changes on top of the graphical enhancements.

Why has this taken 15 months when Sony and other publishers have had no issues releasing next gen versions of games in a much shorter time scale?

Ok, maybe I’m crazy but I think I been playing games long enough and have always had high end pcs. I really don’t think you can really ask much more from this game graphically on the current consoles. The series X version looks effing great in the 60fps mode. Super sharp, after switching off film train and CA.VRR is working a treat at covering any fps drops for me.

im actually pretty surprised it looks this good. Sure it doesn’t compare to a 3080 running all raytracing but what do we expect, these consoles arent up to doing anything near that.

played for about 3 hours straight with a female nomad because I want to bang this girl everyones talking about.
im impressed, not seen anything too crazy in terms of glitches yet. There’s shit loads of npcs walking around.

spotted some pop in on grafiti that’s on the sides of the motorways and that’s about it.

the games grabbed me to be honest, just did the car ride with the dex guy and the lighting is still no where near the raytraced GI, but what do we expect.

coming off playing games like Final Fantasy vii integrade Ghost of Tsushima directors cut and currently playing dying light 2 with all raytracing this game looks great on console. The city details are insane.

story looks to be effing great so far, I’m hooked.

The file size for the PS5 version is smaller than the PS4 one.

Is it the same way on XSX? Wonder how that could be possible.
It is possible because with the way a SSD works vs mechanical hdd you don't have to repeat assets as much (or at all).

Then there's compression which is where PS5 has an edge. But you can surely shrink it on XSS/XSX as well.

This is better than the Uncharted 4 upgrade at least. But yeah, should've been more than this

Ghosts took a year give or take I think. GTA has been delayed, and it’s not like Sony didn’t miss some target dates either. I’m not about to excuse the company for how everything went down, but the time spent seems to have gotten the game to a proper new gen experience.

Bangin Judy is great fun. Very good character.

Honestly it feels like the RT mode is a waste. I don't see anyone realistically playing at 30 FPS when it runs at the exact same resolution, with just RT shadows and some better SSR.

The performance difference is 10x bigger than anything else.

Yes, RT AO or RT GI would have been a better choice. But maybe this would have been to expensive for SX and PS5.

Ok I've started to sink my teeth into the update.

So I wanted to recreate a screenshot from the PS4 Pro BC version to see what kind of difference we got (if any) from this next gen upgrade. This is just an initial test but you may find it interesting. I dont know how much these images will be compressed during upload but these are 2160p native PS5 screenshots. The location and time of day are the same.

Also note, all screenshots are SDR as HDR is busted in this game.

So here's my original screenshot from last years build running on PS5 via BC:

uqY0K8h.jpg

Here is a screenshot from just now running on the PS5 native app. This is Performance mode:

W5RNrWf.jpg

And this is the same shot running on PS5 RT mode:

R8ycqy9.jpg

So firstly, I think the obvious advantage of the next gen update is the resolution boost. The image is a lot crisper.

However aside from that you might struggle to notice any differences......

But what if I told you that the next gen version is missing graphical features from the old version?

Observe the parallax occlusion mapping in the rubble here:
dse9gG3.jpg

And the lack of it on the latest version:
G4NYAiU.jpg

(this is missing on both Perf and RT modes)

So not everything is an improvement over the old PS4 version of the game. This surprised me to be honest.

Now aside from these differences the next gen version is obviously superior, the resolution boost is a godsend and the increased NPC count really helps sell the world. That being said aside from those 2 upgrades it is more or less the exact same game (graphically) as it was before. So maybe not the huge upgrade we were hoping for.

Oh and incase it wasn't obvious, the RT mode is an absolute waste of time. Going from 60 to 30 for almost no visual differences is just bogus. Avoid at all costs.

I’m not seeing the huge upgrade at all.
Like I've said, improved performance and slightly higher res. That's it. However it feels really like a locked 60 (maybe it's not, but it's dropping way less).

That's after all what I was saying, that even gen9 aware fucking sucks, because the game still does not all the APIs, which brings that architectural benefit above the vega. So even if that sounded strange BC games (even gen9 aware - which was Cyberpunk from the start) leave a ton of performance on the table. Consoles sadly does not work like PCs, where you have in drivers translation layer which translate old api calls to new one, when GPU manufacture brings a new architecture. But those drivers are too bloated for console.

The 60 FPS with a much higher res really does make a world of difference. Something felt really off about the 30 FPS in the OG version on series X, still does here as the controls just feel terrible to me at 30 FPS, but being able to not take that massive hit in clarity for 60 FPS goes a long way.

However, the pop in is still nuts in my game. Shit just appears. Its very jarring. Don't think I will be playing it.

A bug maybe?

Don't see it in this comparison.

The frame rate is still pretty sloppy on the Series X. Driving in particular, but even during on foot sections too.

What I can't understand is why the majority of the advertisements are still so low resolution? I've noticed that some have improved, and some posters, screens etc. feature high resolution assets but for the most part you're still seeing those oddly poor resolutions on posters.

Just watched a couple of videos on YouTube.

Pretty much locked 60hz on the XsX. I might download this tonight.

Not locked, there are spots where the frame rate will crater (probably because it's loading in an area or something), but it's very rare.

Halfway through Act 2 on XSX right now and loving it. Even doing all the side stuff.

Something that doesn't get talked about enough is how fucking dumb most of the gear looks. So often you have to wear like pink hotpants and puppy dog ears to get the highest rated armor for your level or whatever. I know you almost never see yourself except in the menu but still, why can't we look cool

Quickly tested the ps5 version. Quite impressed by the visuals. However, it's definitely not 60fps locked. In dense areas, you can tell the game is struggling to stream everything. I Hope a New patch is on the way

For a game that came out over a year ago it looks good enough and more importantly plays better now due to a much better framerate, I've been waiting so long to play it I'll take this.

Side topic but I was banned for being a Christian/ Jesus lover. Told my beliefs, got mocked and banned.

Anyway, I will download the patch tonight. Just finished playing SFV.
