So I Piss Blood, Looking For Advice

Hello, GAF. It's your routine shitposter Kira here. Last Monday, I woke up and did my business. Immediately saw that my stream was like a fantastical Hawaian Punch fountain. Was reasonably freaked, but also tired, so I went back to sleep. Woke up, and it happened again. Went to the ER, gave them a urine sample. They tested it. There was indeed blood in it, it was now a translucent orange color. Tests came back and there was no infections. The ER doctor on call told me that it could be a litany of things, but the fact that it presented without pain was concerning because it's one of the symptoms of bladder cancer.

Full disclosure, I'm a 31 year old male, who's used tobacco products for roughly 12 years. Currently smoke between a half pack to a pack a day. My research (you should never do research) has said that heavy smokers make up 50% of bladder cancer patients. But hematuria (blood in the urine) is only indicative of cancer in 10% of people who seek medical attention for it. I have TERRIBLE drinking habits, in so far as for the past two years I have drank exclusively Gold Peak sweet tea. I've in the past week switched to primarily Gatorade and tap water.

The hematuria went away after that single day, but in it's place is a pressure on my groin, constantly, a tingling when I urinate, and a feeling like my bladder isn't emptying. I used to drink whiskey pretty heavily, and was into some hard drugs for about two years, if it's relevant.

Regardless, I have a urologist appointment the Tuesday after next, but the OCD in me is terrified that I'm gonna be told bad news. I know bladder cancer is manageable, and you don't even need a bladder to live (with certain precautions taken before hand) but MAN. I finally got my life in order and reached a place where I'm happy day to day, and I'm being overdramatic but I can't keep my head cool with this stuff. I'm hoping it's just a kidney stone or infection or SOMETHING manageable. Kidney diseases runs in my family, and I'd be straight up overjoyed if this was something that was a "take a pill and drink some water, and you're good," thing.

Advice? Personal anecdotes? Anything? Thanks in advance. This shit sucks.

What time is it?
Sounds like you are taking all the right steps. I know it is difficult but I'd stop trying to self diagnose and just wait to find out what the doctors tell you. You are always going to assume the worst and research will do nothing but fuel your fears. Good luck and God bless.

i got into a fight last night. it's a little, uh, jam in the lemonade

on a more serious note: You will probably be fine but quit smoking... try vaping instead! Its great.. I made the switch and now the thought of smoking a cigarette disgusts me.

You will be fine, it's probably nothing.

You should quit smoking and start drinking water... why Gatorade though? I would move exclusively to water in your case... and also clean up your diet a little bit.

I used to crap blood... Gut problems. It's better now. Probiotics rule.

Blood in urine could be urinary infection, usually in the kidney. This can get VERY painful. Someone in my family had it. Antibiotics usually do the job.

It could be something else entirely. Yeah, doctor ASAP.

Edit: I guess it wasn't an infection. I wish you the best man.

Gatorade for electrolytes and such. I've been doing like 1 bottle to every four of water, and that's essentially cleared my urine. Still feel a bit of weird pressure and tingling (I say tingling, but it would be burning were it any stronger)

It's mimicking a lot of UTI symptoms, so I don't know if I have a ghost UTI (their a thing, but super rare), if the test just happened to miss it (apparently this can happen, too, if none of the bacteria is present in the urine sample, rare, too, though), if it developed after the visit, or if it's some other issue that CAUSED one a few days later. Or something completely different.

Like others have said, it's probably nothing. I'm pretty young in the grand scheme of things. But I have super severe anxiety when it comes to certain things, and pissing blood is certainly on the list, hahaha

Hopefully it comes back something that isn’t as serious as cancer.

My father just had a liver transplant due to having cancer and it was something on my mind every day till he got the new liver.

I can only imagine that weight you feel.

But honestly, quit smoking, drink water all the time. Look at this, regardless if it comes back not as serious, like a wake up call.

My wife smoked when we met. I found it attractive, and I didn’t mind it (being a non smoker). A couple years past and I realized that she was someone I wanted to spend my life with. I talked to her about it and just said “it wouldn’t be fair for either of us to have you go through having cancer.” She quit within a couple months after that, and that was twelve years ago.

Also, again, drink a fuck ton of water. My grandmother raise me with my father. If I asked for juice or ice tea she would always give me water. It was looked at like a treat to have a drink with sugar in it.

Yeah, I'm trying to psyche myself up to quit. As I stated in my OP, I'm coming off of some pretty bad habits, so smoking has remained my last vice, and it's a trick to quit. I started dating my best friend of ten years last year, and she's going to be the reason I quit.

Could be any number of thing, kidneys, prostate, bladder, or even some random transient thing that you never find the reason for and it never happens again. I would try to put it out of my mind until you can get it diagnosed, then you can fully commit to beating whatever it is.

BTW, the tea contains water. The only way it's the problem is if you are just dehydrated by not drinking enough or you've developed kidney stones or something like that from the particles in the tea; or possibly if you're diabetic and getting too much sugar. Not that it would be bad to drink more water...but the tea is not the problem.

Get it checked out asap, but don’t assume something horrible. I’ve had kidney stones a few times in my life, and the last time I had one it was the exact same symptom. Blood in the urine with tingling. Eventually the stone passed and I was fine and nothing else was found to be wrong.

Drink water only. If you start getting pain and or bloating, get up the hospital ASAP. Until then, just wait for your appointment.

I’m not sure how to feel about the recent return of the two main trending threads of old GAF:
1) still have feelings for old GF, what to do GAF?
2) I’m pissing blood / have a bad cut on my arm / I can’t move half of my body / there’s a lump the size of a grapefruit in my armpit / my foot is black and looks like it’s falling off. Any advice, GAF?

OP, get thoroughly checked STAT. Sorry to disclose this to you, but hematuria in an adult male smoker is bad news until proven otherwise.

It of course won’t be easy for you to get it off your mind till you get your results. Even if you focus on a project it will be looming in your mind. That said just keep yourself busy. Even if it’s planning out a healthier course for yourself. Being idle will make it worst, and the best thing would be to pour yourself into something while you wait.

Good you have a girlfriend there for you as well. If you’re on good terms with your family, let them know as well. Having positive support from your family can’t help with your mental health during something like this.

Looking forward to reading a update with a positive out come for your health.

Don't drink anything but water. To think sodium-riddled Gatorade will help flush your system is crazy. Stop smoking and drinking and start taking care of yourself.

Put a puzzle out, start doing it when you have a smoking urge and only a smoking urge. 5 or 6 pieces at a time, fidget and flick the pieces a bit.

Just bear in mind again, most importantly, that while those symptoms are very alarming, it could represent any number of possible things, many of which are perfectly treatable or will resolve on their own. Hope to see some positive news from you soon, brother!

This is what happened before my liver shit the bed. One other thing, those two organs are interconnected, so if either of them fails, the second follows. I would go to ultra sounds to get them checked or MRI, or something.

Not sure if tea is the problem, if it's not like a ice tea...

I had this when I was a lot younger. They shoved a pipe up my dick and cleared a blockage in my kidney. Problem solved.

Probably just a kidney stone or something like that. They don't always hurt (at least right away). I had blood in my pee a few weeks ago but it went away after a day.

Im thinking kidney stone too; but there are a lot of things this could be. Doctor, or more specifically urologist is your best bet.

urologists don't have crystal balls... your answers lie in the donut of truth (CT scan)

I find it very suspect that you went to ER with hematuria and they sent you home without answers

True. I've been to the ER a couple of times and if I needed scans they did it that day or early the next.
