Been playing Prodeus on Game Pass, now I'm itching for more classic style shooters. This thread is great for keeping up with 'em!

Any tips for an arena shooter like in the old days?

If you call yourself a boomer shooter fan, or just a FPS fan, go play some Ion Fury right now! I can't believe i've waited all those years because i thought i've done with that genre(single player fps games, especially old ones). Best game i've played recently. Added it's dlc to my wishlist immediately. It's basically Duke Nukem 3D with headshots and more.

Hold up a minute...

Shouldn't these games be called Gen X shooters?
You mean the best gen shooters? Hell yeah

Wow okay. I didn't realize you had your thread trademarked and copyrighted lmao (also I am unaware of what 'your thread' even is lol).

Feel free to contact a mod to close one or the other or merge them.
Here's my thread
Made it way before you did, Sonny Jim. Feel free to post retro inspired games in it.

I just found this thread. I've been playing through Project Brutality lately and having a blast. Dusk looks really fun, think I'll try and scoop it up on a sale if it has one in the future. Went ahead and installed Blood: Fresh Supply as I've never played it and am really enjoying it so far, only spent an hour or so playing Blood. May need to push the difficulty down for a first playthrough though as Well-Done is kicking my ass. Any suggestions on the difficulty for a first-time playthrough?
I find Dusk to be my favorite of the new retro FPS wave, it's super fast and super satisfying, feels like Quake, Doom, and Heretic spliced into a union.

I'm a bigger fan of retro shooters than you are! My dad could beat up your dad! etc etc

But in all seriousness though... who gives a fuck? I was part of a different forum eons ago where I had the same idea for a thread and made a nice collage of all retro shooters on the market at that time. If anything you should be glad there's more people like you on this board instead of trying to out-do someone and in turn gatekeep lol. If someone else comes along now and does the same thing then who are we to "demand they post in our threads because we were here first!". I'm actually amazed by your response.

Anyway have a nice day and I wish you lots of frames per second.

Thank you both for making these threads! More hype around these games is sorely needed.

Fare thee well

For OG Tom Clancy shooters out there, check out Microprose's Groundbranch. Early slow development, but currently it has all the right elements. I'm having fun playing it with friends.

Im on a boomer shooter roll on my PS4. Bought Doom 1, 2, 3 and 64, Quake, Project Warlock keeping an eye out for good deals on Turok 1 & 2.
I'm dissapointed that Dusk isn't on the platform 😐
Any recommendations? Other than Duke and Ion Fury?

Everything i want to play is still in early access, Prodeus, Wrath aeon of ruin, Graven… Is there anything which is out and worth playing?
I have already finished ion fury, dusk and amid evil. My favorite was ion fury, loved the setting, music and gunplay.

Boomer shooters are infamous for releasing in Early access and just staying there a lot of time. It's annoying af, they found a market and theyre just milking it even tho some games are amazing.

Anyway if you havet, I still ahvent either, you can try

Project Warlock and it's upcoming sequel. PW is a Wolf 3D clone, as in the levels are flat ones, secret rooms behind fake walls and the gunplay is x axis based. Free camera is optionsl, you can play the game totally without thr Y axis.
Cruelty Squad recommended by The Cockatrice The Cockatrice is a tough sell. The game is fantastic but it is really, REALLY abstract and not everyone will like the art style.

The problem with a lot of these games is that they are uninspired janky trash. The only game I can give credit to is the Wrath game, it looks like something and inspired.

Anyone play Ultrakill? Reviews look great, I'm just waiting for a deep sale.

Does anyone know the name of that FPS with a cell-shaded look, but you play as a wizard? Very fast-paced and colorful. Anyone know the title?

What time is it?
I can't understand the hype for Ion Fury. While it was great to be back in a build engine game and it was incredibly impressive how they pushed that engine to its' limits, I can't say much else impressed me by the game.

Dusk on the other hand is fucking amazing save for the bosses which don't come close to the quality of the rest of the game.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Is there any shooter that has gone back to the Wolfenstein/Blake Stone days? I would love to see a modern take on a corridor shooter without free-aim.

If anything you'll get a price increase with the full release according to the page. The game has been out over a year without a deep sale so I wouldn't expect it get much cheaper within the next few years. And there's a demo so you don't have to guess whether you will like it.

Project Warlock (edit: actually it does have free aim even tough the levels are flat). These should also fit the bill:

And I know there are a bunch more out there.
