GT7 will require online connection to prevent cheating (same at GT:S)

I fail to see the logic where it's worth gimping the experience for people because you've got a vendetta against people who want to cheat offline.

Protect your online by any means, that's fine. But have an offline save system, too. It's not like it's one or the other.

Could their online system not have checks that validate car/part/setting mixes to see whether or not they're legitimate mixes? I each car or part has databases/arrays of what they're compatible with, so if someone gets online with a modded set then boot them.
I don't really have an opinion on this but how does this gimp anyone's experience? Because they can't cheat? How does one cheat in these games?

This is the first step.
1. Make people think single player online games are ok.
2. Make people think streaming only games is ok.
3. Make people think streaming only and service only games are ok.

You fell for it. Now you have nothing and you are a slave to a streaming service.

Not buying it. This was avoidable. Monster Hunter and GTA shows that it's possible.

Why does it matter if people cheat offline? That’s bizzare. It poses no issue to other players unless the cheater is cheating in an online game.

Insane how modern games are basically a worse version of the pre launch Xbox one. You have to go online, but it’s all the time instead of check ins, and you still don’t get to sell used games.

Not everyone has constant, uninterrupted internet. I wouldn't want to lose progress or some other detriment because I wasn't able to fulfil the game's requirements through no fault of my own.

And like the post above just said, your own connection isn't the only one you have to worry about.

Gotta love the irony of people catastrophizing about on-line connectivity requirements on an online forum!
So true, man. “I won’t play this game that’s going to use online in my console that’s always online while I’m typing 24/7 for an online forum on my online phone. Nope, no way. Let me play Forza through Gamepass which always needs online certification before launching. Much better”.

I really don't like always online forced via cloud progress, but it is what it is.

I think a one time question on first boot if the player only wants to play offline would have been enough to both allow offline progress save and prevent cheating.

Again, it is what it is.

I also am in the don't like it but doesn't ever impact me camp.

I'm more excited for this GT than any other since 4 so there's nothing stopping me including someone else's opinion.

Atleast if I buy the physical copy I can play it whenever I want.
I dont like the idea of "renting" games, cuz if the servers ever go down im at the mercy of the corporation.

Yup because when I sit down to read forums is exactly the same as sitting down to play a single player game

Can an online forum be used offline?
Is it possible to play gt offline?

Very bad analogy.

Its a correct analogy. You can sit here, react to and compose posts all day from an offline mirror, but without a connection... nothing happens and nothing changes.

The online requirement is to save PROGRESS. So what's the difference?

Besides, the larger issue is that its a nothing-burger to complain about in the first place. Get over yourselves. its not a problem.

I didn’t know that. I have this memory of once trying to launch a gamepass game without internet on my S before I sold it and not being able to. Good to know.

If you don't set your console to offline mode or if you unplug it (offline mode or not) it requires a connection again.

Kinda sucks because the only time I don't have any internet at all is when I'm travelling to another country and take the console meaning would have it unplugged anyway. Defeats its purpose.

Oh, so that was it. All clear now!

Unless you want to unlock cars or save your progress. In that case having a GT7 physical copy doesn't help at all.

It is the year 2022. Everybody has internet and practically every electronic device and entertainment service requires internet. Who gives a shit?

“B-b-but 15 years from now I might not be able to play it!”

A. by that time there will be a new iteration of GT that does everything better, nobody aside from a few purists are going to want to go back and play it

B. They’ll probably patch it and remove the online check once it’s EOL

C. For fuck’s sake, it’s a $70 entertainment product that I’m going to play and enjoy until I get tired of it and play something else. It’s not some lifelong investment. I’ve spent more money for dinner and a movie.

Settle down tough guy as its not a problem hardware wise for me and to save progress is laughable as that could be done on local hardware

Anyhow we can agree to disagree you think its fine we cant play single player without constant internet and I think its silly

As crazy as it sounds, some people like to continue using their products after the company's marketing division says otherwise.

I guess it's okay then (y)

Then how are you using this website?

Its 2022. everything is internet.
Because I'm thinking long term when the servers get shut down, then basically you can't play the game anymore since it can't connect and verify that you're not cheating.

Imagine if DriveClub required an internet connection? We wouldn't be able to play it anymore.

What a load of bull.
You need a constant connection to play single player so they're sure you don't cheat.

Unpopular opinion: what if i cheat. Honestly. I don't, but even if I did it's the single player portion. Make me cheat in peace.

You're worried about multiplayer? No problem, synchronize data on the server when I go to play online, do your checks, gate progression for that mode only.

What an hysterical solution to an hysterical problem.
Yep, complete bullshit. The Gran Turismo devs have their heads up their ass. They forced people to watch stupid etiquette videos on GTS before they could play online (is it the same story with GT7) and now they force constant online. Fuck off! This is definitely a call by Polyphony Digital and not Sony. Complete bullshit. These devs...

That is the cost of everything.
Internet makes everything easier, at the same time, it makes every thing hell.

Not online connection would be nice, but these things are becoming relics, due to day1 patches.

I actually like when my progress is saved online. I never get asked which save to use (cloud or local) that way when switching between consoles. And I can't speak for everyone, but I probably average less than one hour per year when power is on and internet is down at home.

Online always for single player modes will always be disgusting as fuck, no matter the game or company.
The issue started, when devs left bug fixes and patches for day1 patch. Once that happened, all good sweet SP were out the window.

It will get worse from now on.

I fear for the day they do part 1, part 2 releases every 3-4 month.

What's with the "tough guy" crap?

Like I said, its nothingburger. The only one rattled here is you, because I pointed out the irony of using an internet forum to moan about internet requirements!
Are you really so obtuse that you can't see it?

If there was a requirement for a subscription or some other paywall then I'd agree that its a drawback, but seriously, how many people are without any sort of reliable internet? Especially those who post here on the regular?

I'm sorry but if you have a problem with internet requirements why the fuck would you own a PS4 or PS5 in the first place? If you lack that facility your experience is crippled from the jump, so a game requiring that facility isn't the root of the "problem".

People always make a big deal out of this everything is online. Hell you cant even play some games nowdays without agreeing to the t&c let alone being online.

I guess they don't want to go through all the trouble of having 2 profiles and two separate garages (how would this even work?) just to accommodate save file hackers.
Then I guess people who want to play single player don't have to go through all the trouble of accommodating them.

Oh ffs...

Like I get it cheaters suck... but an the expense of just letting it be played offline?

This is just dreadful, what's next are they going to be bringing back the one time code in the box to access multiplayer again?
