A PS5 version of Apex Legends has been spotted on PSN

According to reliable PlayStation patch tracker PlayStation Game Size, a PS5 version of Apex Legends has appeared on the PSN database.

The new addition is reportedly 80GB in size, but this doesn’t include any other updates that may be released alongside it.

At the moment, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners have to play the PS4 or Xbox One versions of Apex Legends respectively, because there are no bespoke new-gen versions.

Respawn said back in August 2021 that it was still planning to release a new-gen update for Apex Legends, but wasn’t ready to commit to a launch window at the time.

While the battle royale shooter is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility, with a performance boost up to 1440p, publisher EA said in 2020 that “more formal enhancements [were] planned” for 2021, which have clearly since been delayed.

Asked to provide an update on those plans in a Reddit AMA last August, Respawn’s director of communications, Ryan Rigney, could only assure fans that a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update was being worked on.

“Oh man, I WISH I had an update to share but we can’t say anything definitive at the moment—so can’t spoil anything here. Trust us tho, it’s in the works and we’re excited about it too,” he wrote.

Respawn Vancouver team director Steven Ferreira said in February 2021 that 120fps was one of the studio’s goals for Apex Legends’ next-gen update.

“Can’t promise anything but with the core mechanics ‘feel’ of Apex being such an important piece of the player experience this one is high on the priority list,” he said.

Nice. I noticed a distinct stability and clarity update from my X1X to Series X with Apex Legends. It's a solid experience graphically, HDR and audibly. I'm interested to see how much I notice going from 60fps to 120fps (possible VRR support for Series X?) and what improvements they make with next gen patches.

Thread title is a little misleading as Respawn are working on both PS5 and Series X next gen updates.

I'm looking forward to be playing this marvelous game in 120fps. 3D audio would also be a nice feature - right now you have to disable it in system settings, or else the sound in-game is totally screwed.

Finally! I don't own a high refresh rate tv or monitor, but I hate that the game now runs at a locked 59 fps on PS5 hahaha.
Also, can't wait for better use of the tempest engine on this game, it's a savior on battle royales.

Can I have a Series X version?
But honestly, I don’t have a 120hz tv, so what upgrades would they even have?

Anything new on this?

I'd like to give Warzone a break (broken mess) and try out Apex Legends but I'm not willing to try it until the Next Gen Update.

the next gen update will only really bring a 120hz mode... I doubt that the graphics will be improved much, maybe slightly better textures or a slightly higher resolution in graphics mode. it's currently 1440p to 1600p-ish I think and runs at a locked 60fps on PS5

edit: I just remembered that the PS4 Pro had lower LOD settings than One X, so I guess that could be improved too on PS5

"Only" - that's like a major feature to an FPS game :messenger_tears_of_joy: I hope 3D audio is also something Respawn added.

it won't be... the audio in Apex is notoriously mediocre. also I think a lot of people don't even know what 3D Audio is... that is such a buzzword and I bet most people wouldn't know if it's on or off, total placebo effect.

That's quite some hot-takes you've got there 😂

120hz Vs 60hz is a substantial upgrade - every competitive FPS player will say the same.

It's easy to hear the difference from stereo to 3D audio - you can literally try it in every game that supports it and hear the difference. Huge fucking difference in the sound spectrum. Pinpointing where the sound comes from in Returnal with 3D audio is on another level to anything else out there - and believe me, I have the hardware to prove it.
