MS should attain DC Games exclusivity to compete with Sonys Marvel output.

Think about it, what's the one thing that is still holding back the casual gamer from really switching over to XB from PS5? It's triple A story driven, single player games.

Sony have been able to capture and sell the Zeitgeist of the Marvel craze and arguably this is their main selling point especially after the Activision buyout.

If all DC driven games became XB exclusive this would do two things. 1) Be able to compete with Sony on a linear story driven game level and 2) Be able to offer a real alternative to Sony and Marvel exclusives. Especially for those in the market that are more DC fans then Marvel.

Look how successful and well enjoyed the Batman Arkham games are. Now imagine they were exclusive to XB or MS being able to release the latest Suicide Squad or Justice League game right when Sony have a new Marvel game on their platform. BAM. You'd have really good competition in the gaming super hero space.

Buy out Rocksteady, maybe MS's new triple A studio work on a next gen Superman game. It'd go down really well.

Just my two cents on where next MS should go.

Problem is that AAA story driven, single player games don't lend themselves to gamepass. MS even when game sales were important rejected a lot of single player games. Now that engagement is key to them they are even less likely.

Even if it drove subs up just to play the latest DC Games hypothetically speaking? I think MS might change their tune once that they realise how strong that Marvel exclusiveity is for Sony once they see the PS brand loyalty because of those games.

It was rumored that Microsoft was interested in acquiring WBI just prior to the Zenimax acquisition, but then there were some restructuring issues with WarnerMedia in the meantime and along came Activision. They seem to be on the backburner for Microsoft, what with the DoJ and all that. My guess is their next acquisition will be foreign. Konami, Capcom, Sega...something like that.

Its ok you dont need to have everything. They'll be mutliplat aaa 3rd party games like the arkham games, the recent gotg and the upcoming wb games more than enough to go around. Even if there were who has time to play all these games. No matter what side youre on thats one thing we all have in common an endless backlog of games to play.

Yes, explains why they’re bankrolling the acclaimed FPS Hellblade 2. Or the multiplayer vehicle combat game Avowed.

Those Sega rumours have been around for ages, but I just don't think they are as important to acquire in the gaming space anymore.

I still hold that buying WBI or at least Rocksteady would be a massive win to compete with Sony plus Marvel output.

That is the complete opposite of ehat ms has said. Single layer story driven games have more place on gamepass then they dont.

Sega have loads of IP, which is simply to have content for Game Pass, not to win GotY's or anything.
WBI would be a bad purchase if the goal is to try to compete with Marvel IP...Game Pass fodder? Sure. I think they have a lot of the old Midway IP still.

What if MS just negotiates a massive partnership with both DC and Marvel/Disney for exclusive access to all their IP's and block Sony from getting anything? Unless there's any laws stopping them from doing so I could see it happen eventually.

When Disney is done with Spider-Man's story and character in the current MCU and write him off then Sony will suddenly lose their only bargaining chip as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS is in negotiations with Disney as we speak to get some exclusive Marvel games of their own.

Why though? Marvel games aren't sony exclusive, spider-man only exists because marvel approached them for an exclusive marvel game, with a list of characters and insomniac chose spider-man.
This license isn't for perpetuity and they probably had to negotiate again for miles morales and the upcoming spider-man 2, if marvel wants someone else to make games after that, that is what's going to happen; so to completely make all of DC exclusive to xbox makes no sense at all.

Trash take, grow up🤌
I wish some gamers weren't so obsessed about their favorite companies buying out companies and more focused on their favorite companies showing actual games with gameplay.

An acquisition means nothing now if development of those exclusives hasn't even started yet. Thats just as bad as me getting excited for God of War Ragnarök 2 or Spiderman 3...what's the point?

Not ones with AAA budgets like Spiderman. Mid tier games sure but you don't want a game that people subscribe to gamepass for $10 then finish in 20hrs. You want GaaS crap and MP. Engagement metrics.

You should attain a higher level of moderation in your thoughts, else you may confuse wishful thinking for insight.

Yep, exactly why they bought noted GaaS/Multiplayer developers Bethesda Game Studios, Arkane, Obsidian, Ninja Theory, inXile, Double Fine, to name a few. Honestly Game Pass lends itself WAY BETTER to single player games in a lot of ways, for one, if somebody's spending all their time hooked on a multiplayer game, there's no reason for them to be subscribed to Game Pass, they'll just buy the game instead. They have tons of devs that are more likely than not going to be making single player games (AAA or otherwise). This is honestly my least favorite thing that people have convinced themselves of about Game Pass. There's no reason to think it's going to change the quality or genre of any Xbox 1st party game

It's not wishful thinking actually. We live in crazy times and anything could happen.

Just a week ago MS acquiring Activision Blizzard was considered wishful thinking as well, yet here we are :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sounds like you just got a good old case of denial.

Wolverine is Sony exclusive. After the Activision buy out you can bet your ass Sony will be doing exclusive contracts with Marvel to stay competing.

I understand people wanting them and I'm not hating on anybody's opinions, but I very much would prefer (for both Sony and Microsoft) to avoid big licensed properties like that. There's a lot less freedom with storytelling and gameplay if you have to constrain yourself within the confines of a licensed property's universe. Plus if the licenser decides to stop, or if an agreement can't be reached, it's way harder for sequels to happen, or for them to be forced to go in a certain direction. Plus at least to me, it's way more interesting to explore new worlds with new characters rather than a a world where everything has to fit with what the licenser wants in order to keep with the lore of that universe. Would I play a well made DC Xbox game? Absolutely, just like I played Spider man on PS4, but I still generally don't get near as excited for most licensed games outside of possibly Harry Potter, than I would for an equally well made non licensed game

Double fine, inXile are AAA? I have my doubts there bud. Bethesda not GaaS/MP? Last two games Fallout 76 is GaaS, and Elder Scrolls Blades packed with mtxs.

Single player games will have their place but spending $100M developing a single player game you complete in 20hrs to attract people paying $10 for a month isn't going to work out great or be done too often.

I'm personally sick of seeing superhero shit everywhere. It's such a limiting genre and can't be made interesting unless you go against what defines the genre in the first place. All those Marvel movies are just the same thing made repeatedly with the costumes swapped around. It is the ultimate "asset flip" genre.
