Let me just say Call of duty is the biggest multiplayer franchise on PlayStation. I’d they remove it from PlayStation, ps plus subs will rank, ps 3rd party sales will tank (no COD) , and generally the whole brand will be impacted. They need to respond hard, they don’t have a COD.

One thing I know for sure is that they will not spend 70 billion so PlayStation funs can play MS exclusive games on PS5,6......etc.
This is war without prisoners, who will survive will tell the story.

More than
all another question is what will Apple do?
Thats signifikant change of power structure in the gaming Industry.
Only Tecent, Sony is bigger than
Microsofts Xbox Game Studios.

XBOX brand got bigger than PS already after Beth aquisition. After this deal they put playstation in some remotes back alley's trashcan.

I do hope the pressure of this news pushes Sony to put out some quality multiplayer games. Last gen was all about single player, this gen it seems like it'll be SP and MP at least according to what's in development at the moment.

I cannot see them putting new games on PS platform. MS does not give a crap about losses in the gaming department and it might not go exclusive fall 2022 but 2023 for sure.

I expect the following:
Single player: exclusives
New MP franchise: exclusive
Existing franchise / FTP multiplayer: Multiplat
MMO: Multiplat

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
the question is what's the point on xbox hardwaree right now, all their exclusives also come to pc

it's clear the ms is putting all its eggs in the "netflix of videogames" basket

A lot of people prefer to play on console. So despite xbox being on pc + cloud the xbox consoles still make a lot of sense.

Somebody else already suggested what u just did, but others suggested if gamepass did come to playstation it may be cloud only which would make sense.

But after this deal, I dont think Microsoft needs sonys around 100-200 million installbase. When we consider Microsoft are aiming for billions of gamers sonys piece of the pie does not matter.

I like to see Microsoft expanding their gaming portfolio, but won't this acquisition be considered a violation of antitrust laws with Microsoft being seen as trying to create a monopoly in an attempt to lead to the collapse of a rival, in this particular case Sony?

Anyway, I'll be enjoying Gamepass but this certainly raises a few eyebrows if one day Microsoft becomes a behemoth of the whole industry by only buying its competition. Nothing stops them from changing the Gamepass model to something less consumer-friendly (huge raise on subscription prices or multiple premium tiers) and there will hardly be anyone to stop that.

Edit: Goddamn, they did it and history is in the making today.

I wonder what Nintendo is doing right now.

Probably their net is slow and haven't got the news yet.
I don't think it's a problem to them, Activision had like 5 games out on the switch, and none was Call of Duty to start with (Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot and Skylanders?)

They might do similar approach as they did with Bethesda. Current contracts will be upheld and certain games will still be multiplat like ESO they will maintain COD Warzone multiplat, maybe Diablo. Some Games will be exclusive. Majority of games will be on GamePass.

Playstation will continue getting yearly COD and stuff, but when a shiny new thing comes out, good luck.

Historically, that happens when new subscribers slow down but they want to keep gains. (it's what's happening with Netflix now)

It's a matter of time, basically, but it'll still take a while.

Enjoy cross platform bans on Call of Duty Warzone and Overwatch.

Probably while the language has been not to take away from the communities of those games on Sony’s platform. Which imo could mean war zone stays the way it is on PS but the new COD games will be xbox/pc/gamepass.

Any I would care about (single player) will be Xbox exclusives. Call of Duty will likely be treated as Minecraft is now.
I feel for you bud, I don’t see it at all. Skyrim sold over 30m copies and MS are keeping it for Xbox and PC only. There’s no chance of the annual CoD’s coming to PS when Xbox have already proved the can leverage a huge user base through Xbox and Steam.

Warzone will certainly stay. Now for future singleplayer titles, I hardly believe there is any reason for Microsoft to keep it on Playstation even if they get a few million copies in losses on that platform. They'll make up for that with the Gamepass subscriptions.

The only game I see staying is Warzone. Everything else going forward, exclusives.

Once the deal is done next year & COD is exclusive, casuals are going to flock to the MS ecosystem.
Now all MS needs is Madden and in the US at least it's game over.

Why do you feel bad for me? First, I own every Xbox released including a Series X and GamePass. Second, I've never played a Call of Duty game in my life.

As I said, any game from Activision that I'd want to play is likely to be an Xbox exclusive. I just don't think CoD will be, but I could care less as I don't play CoD anyways.

I don't think the games have to become XB exclusives to boost the value proposition, because even if they'll be available on both consoles many people will question themselves like "hmm, should I pay 70-90$ (depending on region) for each CoD, or should I just jump onto GP where I can have all of them for just 10$, plus a billion of other games?". But if MS does indeed cut Sony off from those game it'll be a huge deal, because keep in mind, as per Sony's financial reports, online services and add-ons is where the majority of their revenue comes from, and who pays for PS+? It's exactly the CoD, Fifa, Destiny, GTAO etc. people, those pay to play online, those are the ones who spend countless money on DLC, MTX, lootboxes and what's not, so if MS cuts a chunk of this audience away from Playstation, then Sony will surely feel it in their pockets.

BTW, does Sony still have the marketing deal for CoD? Will be funny to see them strongly advertising MS game all over again after Deathloop.

Just because you don’t seem to be comprehending what MS are doing even after Bathesda.

They'll release their games on PlayStation IF Sony allows a GamePass client on the PlayStation store. Otherwise all games will be exclusively on Xbox consoles, PC, and cloud.

Could be. You never know.

Sony gave in to MLB having an Xbox game or else lose access to the league. Sony agreed.

Judging by the Bethesda deal I’d guess that they’ll have the same approach with this. Legacy titles/games that are already available on other platforms will continue to be supported with new content/expansions while new games will be exclusive.

They aren't going to remove these games from PlayStation. MS has enough studios now to make the case for a PlayStation specific game pass subscription. Think EA Play but for MS games. And remember, Starfield and the rest will be on platforms that have Game Pass. Phil chose those words carefully. Just saying... ya'll should look beyond the console wars and see the whole picture forming.

I know it's a huge deal but it's so hard for me to give a shit. lol.

I wish I had a crystal ball and could check on what XBOX and PS looks like 3 years from now.

Why are we going through this crap again? It's 100% locked, just like Bethesda, all of the AAA games are going to be MS exclusive (Xbox and PC only), with exception of the tablet games of course. To say otherwise is even more denial than before.

All except Warzone will be exclusive, minus anything already agreed on or prior to closing.......They just spent 10 times what they spent on Bethesda, whose games are all exclusive going forward. This is a Gamepass play, they want 100 million subscribers and COD gives them 10 million

lol no. And in any case we have an example Bethesda that was just 7.5b acquisition made their new games exclusive. Activision was 68.6b and you can be sure there will be exclusives here too. And in any case, players of a platform (playstation) that has always shown rivalry against Microsoft will be treated as second class citizens. If you are interested in COD and all other Activision games as well as Bethesda games, the platform to be on will be Microsoft (be it PC or console). period. Microsoft makes these acquisitions to move players to its platform, not to develop games for others.

Here we go, bring on the "Activision sucks" comments from people who liked their games before on other platforms....... super lame.
I've bought a few Call of Duty games in the past that is it. Genuinely no interest in any of there currant games at the moment, of course that could change. When Microsoft bought out Bethesda that pissed me off because I want Starfield.

And rest of the world they would just need FIFA. (and FIFA on gamepass could suffice)

Anyway:

Microsoft Is About to Get a Close Look From Regulators. Its Free Pass Is Over.

Multiple articles on the internet citing that it's a power play and we'll see what happens.
know nothing about us law, but what the regulators should regulate exactly?
the move does not create a monopoly or puts at risk the integrity of the industry...it's a publisher buying another big publisher

This will be just like the Zenimax situation, anything already signed with Sony will still come, then exclusive from then on out, Microsoft do not spend 70 billion dollars to keep games coming to the competition, but it's amazing how many deluded people think there are on this thread, ;)

Nearly 40%

I think some games will be full PC or PC+Xbox exclusive, other ones will be timed console exclusives and some other ones will be multiplatform. Same as with Minecraft and Zenimax.

At least they will continue supporting Warzone on PS, in the same way they did continue supporting Zemimax GaaS games on PS after purchase.

Two possibilities were it to happen:

(1) Sony allows for MS to distribute on their platform but at traditional retail amounts. MS gets the revenue from interested players and can begin making the sales pitch to players that they can have it all for way less on an Xbox device.

(2) Sony allows MS to offer a limited version of GamePass on Sony platforms. What they will not allow, however, is for third parties to bypass licensing and will require them to participate with a Sony equivalent if they want exposure to PS players.
3) MS continues releasing games on PS, some of them after a timed exclusive, but some of them keep full Xbox console exclusive. Sony dominates Gamepass with Spartacus, and obviously doesn't allow Gamepass being released or marketed on PS. Sony spends their marketing and exclusive deals with other big publishers instead of in Zenimax or Activision.

I’d love to know what products you think they’ve dished out over the last few years you would consider quality……
Blizzard of old is no more.

I think they will honour existing deals but after they have timed out it will be exclusive
Minecraft is still multiplat, I can easily see CoD and Diablo go everywhere. But I think it all depends on what competitors are doing, MS could use exclusivity scenarios as threats to get what they want - to have Gamepass everywhere.

I don’t think a company spends 70 billion to put the software on the competitors console. I deffo think pre-existing contract will be honoured. Poss war zone will stay multiplat but the main game will go exclusive when it can

You never know. Maybe MS does the Sony PC port strategy.

Announce out of the blue ports are coming to PS systems 3 or 4 years later to scoop up sales from ecosystem gamers who will never budge from PS.
