The Verge: Microsoft has discontinued all Xbox One consoles

I do wish Sony would do the same with the PS4. It's over 8 years old, let it rest in peace.

I know that doesn't really matter for PS5 production etc, I just don't want them to consider the PS4 a living platform that they need to make games for anymore. I really, really hope the upcoming cross-gen titles are the last ones from Sony.

Not parsing words, the next 2 years of their first-party output were already known cross-gen / PC games announced prior to the start of the generation except for Horizon. Halo was announced in 2018? They announced a bunch of games between 2019, 2020, 2021 and now going to 2022 with no release dates but promise the next couple of years of games will be released on current and last-gen. It was a bullshit promise with no intent in following through. I said as much when Phil made that statement.
Seems like parsing to me. MS released cross generational first party titles in 2020 and 2021. There are the couple of years you are harping on. MS has done a far better job honoring their cross generational games than others for sure. Let's not forget the flack they received for being transparent about this in the first place.

Two years would be November this year. All they have to do is release nothing until November 10th (or release cross-gen games) and they'd be correct.

I disagree, lip service with no intent on follow-through is not honoring statements they made. I would have expected things like Flight Simulator, Everwild to be cross-gen but for Everwild they scrubbed Xbox One off the announcement page and Flight Simulator on last-gen is probably not happening. I never buy into these transparency narratives, a company only tells you what they want you to know and nothing more.

Well that's pretty stupid, they can't release cross-gen games without releasing their next gen consoles.
They can by having Series versions of the games released before it launched ready. It goes both ways not just one.

From Jan 10, 2020:

“As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices,” Booty explains.

Why does he say over the next year then two years? Should've just said over the next two years. Loving his surname.

Probably misspoke, interviewer transcribed it per verbatim, but you get no sense if he paused or shook his head and corrected himself. (Or any body language for that matter.)

The only thing I've lost is brain cells talking to you about this.
The quotes are right there, you can read "HA HE SAID NO CROSS-GEN!" all you want, people with eyes can read what was actually said by Jim.
Yes, we all did read what he actually said. It's only you very few vocal minority who are arguing otherwise.

Now most of us know not to trust anything Jim Ryan says. He is just a talking head. He is the new Don Mattrick. Enjoy!

These businesses are not your friend or a charity.

Covid and the chip shortage has severely fucked supply chains globally. There's infinitely more PS4's in the living rooms of gamers worldwide compared to PS5.
Sony not catering to that crowd and only exclusively to people owning PS5 (of which there is precious few in the wild compared to PS4) is them not shooting themselves in the foot, they're blowing their legs off by the kneecaps.

They're not going to conveniently ignore 110+ million PS users.

Cross-gen support to weather this period of uncertainty is not a choice, its a must.

xCloud will allow X1 customers to play all the new games on their last generation system and this would be even longer than two years no matter when you want to start the clock. No one else is offering this option at all.

MS honored their commitments in ways other companies did not. Flight Simulator is extremely CPU bound and X1 can't run it natively. You'll be happy to know you'll be able to stream it some time this year no matter what platform you are on. Since MS is still the only company not requiring you to purchase their new hardware odd you'd be upset at MS over this. MS has been up front with their plans whether you believe them or not.

I disagree. Microsoft has not honored their commitments, they paid lip service to cross-gen support but just about every "next-gen" game they have was 3 to 4 years or more out from release, they predictably scrub Xbox One from the website of 2 games and Flight Simulator which is supposed to be a cross-gen game is not releasing on last-gen, again showing these cross-gen lip service means nothing.

If I have to pay to stream I'd rather just own the game outright so I couldn't care less about Flight Simulator being on Xcloud. I don't stream games, I play native games on the hardware if I can. The most I've streamed are the free games I got from Google Stadia and PC library I can stream for free via GeForce Now. Microsoft has been obfuscating with their next-gen plans from the start whether you believe it or not. Sony has honored their commitments, they said they would have next-gen exclusives and they did, they said PS4 will get cross-gen games like they have supported their previous consoles and they have kept to their commitments so far if that upsets you to hear then thats on you.

It's been a sham all along. Sony and Microsoft knowingly launched the PS5/XBX below market value, during a chip shortage.

Holy fuck.

If you really believe all that, you are far more brainwashed than I expected.

This is gold medal gymnastics right here. You should try out for an Olympic team. (Probably special)

That's rich coming from a brainwashed fanboy like yourself.

On a different note. Why do you all keep tagging someone that has nothing to do with this conversation?

Looks very sad and desperate to keep tagging someone else in a conversation that has fuck all to do with them.

He was the worst post in this thread before yours. (Also with dumbass mental gymnastics)

Show me any other post I tagged someone else in in this thread.

It's fun to watch your delusions crumble in front of you as you grasp for more straws, so keep it going even if only to amuse me.

My posts have fuck all to do with whomever you are tagging in them. If your dumbass is too stupid to follow then simply don't.

I post facts like Microsoft scrubbing Xbox One from the game announcements site just like they scrubbed VR from the Xbox One X announcement site.

If you are too delusional to see those facts then that's on you. You can amuse yourself all you want does not change those facts.

Step back a sec.

You accused me of tagging people in my posts, I tagged one person in one post only because his was the second stupidest post in this thread. (Yours is first)

I think at this point you are at the sunken cost fallacy, you have spent so much time being wrong that you will just continue deflecting or changing the subject until you feel you are right. No matter how dumb it makes you look.

Step back for a second and ask yourself is this the hill you really want to die on?

What are they talking about? Was Xbox One scrubbed from a "game announcements site"?

Sure? I guess?

Probably earlier in the planning, similar to how GT7 said only on PS5 only to have it changed.

Regardless they are Series consoles only now.

Not sure how that's a bad thing, after all the cross gen is holding next gen back talk 2 years ago.
People need to nag ..

Read back, you are not the first person to tag or reference the user, that looks very suspicious. Like a cult following in lock-step with each other.

Why do you all I said? You CatLady CatLady and adamsapple adamsapple make reference to the same individual that has nothing to do with my post.

The subject has not changed, feel free to read back. It started with someone insinuating Sony lied about PS5 with we believe in generations statement which I contest they didn't, Microsoft was the one that lied about their cross-gen support simply because they didn't have first-party exclusives to launch with then immediately start scrubbing the mention of Xbox One off game sites.

Dying on a hill assumes I risk losing anything. News flash, I don't and we can disagree till the end of time and I still won't lose anything.

They are all referencing him because up until you he made the dumbest post in this thread.

So congrats.

MS did exactly what the said they would. Support thier games for 2 years through cross gen. If you don't understand what that means, sorry but we aren't all waiting for you to figure it out.

They had plenty of games and supported them all as promised, and didn't have to outright lie to thier customers at the same time.

Ps: many of your "scrubbed screens" are doctored as they were shown and never shown again after the Series X was announced.

They said "coming to next gen"

Just in case you actually wanted to check your facts.

Let's stop the bullshit. The "most of us" you are referring to are Xbox fans like you. As a PS fan, I don't particularly like Jim Ryan's style of leadership, but this nonsense comparing him to Don Mattock is absurd. That's a narrative you want to believe, but in no way reflects reality.

Sony's always continued to produce their last gen alongside their current gen. MS has usually stopped production quickly when moving to a new gen — so it's standard affair.
Only due to economies of scale. If you expect to sell a very low amount of consoles it's not worth keeping the production line.

It's console dependent rather than company dependent. If a previous gen console is not selling then it is discontinued faster because of economies of scale. The 360 for example had a long life after the xbox one launch. They even released the 360 E model the year XB1 launched.

Xbox one was replaced by backwards compatible Series S (for ~$299) so there is no need to have a cheaper console on the market ... well if the series s only would have a BR drive ....

How do you post something like this and then act outraged when you’re compared to notorious trolls? 😂

There are no GAF awards, but this may well be the worst one of January 2022. Bravo.

The straw clutching is reaching new levels🤣

First we can't count Series consoles sales as one as it not fair because they have two consoles.
Now because Xbox One can't handle Flight Simulator natively Microsoft "lied"

Point is the game is still coming to Xbox One via Xcloud, just because they don't like playing games that way doesn't change the fact you'll be able to play it and all the other first party games on older hardware.
So Microsoft delivered what they promised, they went beyond really when people are playing the likes of Starfield on Xbox One S via Xcloud later in the year.

Wow so concerned on behalf of Xbox One owners. Until July 24, many other first party were listed as "Xbox One and Windows 10" by default and this also includes Avowed. None of the promotional materials for these games mentioned "Xbox One".

Your level of concern is similar to the replies to this kotaku tweet. As for Flight Simulator on Xbox One, its like Ori for 360, they eventually discover they can't port them back to last gen. No one remotely cares whether or not these come to Xbox One except for your twitter buddies.

Ofcourse, I get that. With the Xbox, MS also had to deal with nvidia for example.

So lets get this straight...

After these statements were discussed and the general consensus back then at the time was "Microsoft = Bad / Sony = Good"

And now the dust has settled and it actually turns out that it's Sony who appear to be dragging their cross-gen feet more than Microsoft. You now say that Microsoft actually lied by releasing a statement (That they got a TON OF FUCKING SHIT FOR!!!!) was a lie and what they really should have said was "We believe in generations"?

Yet Sony who did say that were totally misunderstood and taken out of context and it is in fact the general public and the press who are at fault for coming away with the wrong idea for it and now we are at a point where "Microsoft = Bad / Sony = Good"

Is that what you are saying?

The better question is, why in the world do you all care so much about what each company says, knowing their strategy is likely to change based on things that are happening in the market (and internally). Both companies will adjust their strategy to fit their business. Things can change. The market is dynamic and so the companies also have to be.

Fanboys on both sides have gone to stupid lengths over 'We believe in generations' and similar statements made by MS regarding being where gamers are, etc etc. How do you all not realize how sense-less it is to argue company bullet points with each other? I think it is an unfortunate down-side of being on a forum, where some of us forget that we are talking to other human beings. Stop with the bullying — if there is a point you want to discuss, you can do so in a civil way instead of acting like child-ish little bullies (this does not apply to you CeeJay but some others in this thread.)

The better question???? Get the fuck down from your high horse! When you buy a console (especially a day one pre-order) you want to know what their long term plans are for the platform as you are going to be playing on it for the next decade or so. The only thing you have to go off are words before the machines are out there in the wild. There are rumours and tech specs along with previews and opinions and that's all you have to go off so that is why in the world you would care so much about what each company says.

But that's the thing. What 'adjustments' did MS make? They clearly said they were going to make cross gen titles and they did. They then took the extra step and allowed last generation consoles a way to play current generation titles too. MS was attacked for their position and now it's clear they were being being the most transparent and honest with their customers. To try and 'both sides' this is a little disingenuous and it is not bullying to point that out.

To play games you just need an Xbox Series X and a Xbox 360. There are games that Xbox Series X cannot play and Xbox Series X can play all Xbox One and select backwards compatible Xbox and 360 games.

There really isn’t any point in owning an Xbox One no longer as the Series X overpowers that console. The Xbox Series S is more powerful than the Xbox One X anyways except the lack of a disc drive, but that’s why you get Xbox Series X instead.

Playstation needed to manufacture more PS4 because of games that can run both generations and the large install base.

You both are cycling statements made before the consoles released. They have been out for a year now if you don't know and this isn't their first rodeo. They will continue to adjust and respond to the market based on things that work and don't work. If you are going to argue company bullet points, find some fresh ones at-least?

I didn't say they changed anything about their strategy or even that they didn't change anything about their strategy — for both Sony/MS. I was saying that both of them can adjust their strategy based on things happening in the market so its fruitless to hang on to something either one of them said and argue over it at this point.

What??? Firstly, I was directly calling out another posters mental gymnastics so I had to reference the statements that they were using in their own post, I really don't understand the point you are trying to make or why you quoted me to make it. I think you are saying that I shouldn't be discussing things that happened in the past because people change their story to suit the current situation and we shouldn't call them out on it because it's in the past??? What???
