PlayStation London Studio Developing a PS5 Online Game

I wonder how the pricing model will be.
When even Halo is F2P now (at least the multiplayer) and big franchises like Battlefield are struggling, I don't know if there's still a place in the industry for a $70 multiplayer game (unless it's an MMO or something).

Fuck off with these online games, if I wanted online games I would have bought an Xbox.

Now we have Last of Us Factions, Twisted Metal, Ex Respawn team game, Ex Black Ops team game, Multiplayer project by Guerilla Games, Multiplayer project by inSomniac and there are probably more I'm forgetting. And I'm not interested in a single one of them. The only online games I play are Monster Hunter or Street Fighter.

Might be thread worthy as I bet it’s London studio working on it now

No, they've announced it. It'll be a TV series, but that means if succeeded it'll easily hit gaming as well.

(timestamped)

Series: Twisted Metal, The Last of Us.
Movies: God of War(?), Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima.

I guess - if you don't have any friends to play with...

I have friends to play with but what I also do have is a life, so I don't really have time to master a multiplayer game, I'm a type of gamer to that plays maybe a handful of high quality AAA games a year

Who London? I’m not seeing that in the job listings. Just online title in some of the engineer spots
For example, take a look at the overview section of the ‘Lead VFX Artist‘ job opening and you’ll see that it clearly mentions a ‘brand new, next-gen IP’. This new IP is also mentioned in the other job listings like ‘Lead Technical Artist‘.
Now you only find smth like "Next-Gen experience" and stuff.

By life you mean work hours, children and wife taking your time? It's only for a "little" while, mate - hang in there.

Yes exactly and other hobbies like gym and etc. That little while I'd rather play a fine single player game, the only multiplayer games I play are probably 2 games such as monster hunter or Street Fighter. Multiplayer games just don't appeal to me anymore these days.

So with the news/rumor that Sony moved the new Twisted Metal game from Lucid to a new EU studio...............Could be that Twisted Metal will be online only game?

But multiplayer games are the most played games these days, and Sony is obviously not stopping making their AAA single player games - just look at this year.
Sony even made a partnership with Discord, so they're making moves to establish a better multiplayer platform.
PSVR2, AAA singleplayer games and multiplayer games. I don't think you can compare it to the PS3 days.
There should be enough for everyone - especially for those who only plays a couple of AAA singleplayer games a year.

True.
A few Multiplayer/ Online games is cool and needed but Id rather they put resources into a 1st person shooter or 2, a WRPG, JRPG and bringing back a platformer like Jak n Daxter or Sly Cooper etc

Out of these multiplayer/ online games, I hope one of them is Socom and maybe Starahawk

The gap between say a decent single player Gran Turismo was massive. It took years for us to get a God of War sequel or a Last of Us sequel. The gap between Sucker Punches infamous and Ghost of Tsushima took ages. Quality AAA singeplayer games are too few and far between. 3rd parties have multiplayer type games covered this isn't a genre that really needs much focus. As for VR I'm not purchasing another expensive product so that's more resources taken away from traditional first party AAA games. And let's be honest Sony still haven't managed to make a huge multiplayer hit and most likely the new games they are developing won't take off and would be forgotten about a few months later and year later the online player base will be small and few years later Sony will just shut the servers down.

I'm very confident in the MP game from Firewalk Studios - mainly because these guys have done some very popular games in the past and have been hiring new promising talent to their roster.
For me a 3-4 year break from a franchise is way better than a 1-2 year break - just look at CoD, BF (and most Ubisoft games) how they screwed up.
Most high quality developers say it takes at least 5 years to develop a quality AAA game. That's just the way it is. Hiring new studios to do MP games doesn't change that.
Sony needs a great multiplayer FPS and if they have to bet on more than one horse to achieve it, that's just the way it have to be.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Deviation Games!

I think Firewalk Studios will do something like Destiny and Deviation Games will do something like CoD.
