PlayStation Studios 2022 hopes and predictions

PlayStation Studios, the collective name for first party software published by Sony Interactive Entertainment has been off to a strong start on PlayStation 5 so far. Sony debuted the PS5 in 2020 with a wide range of titles. Mascot Platformers in Astro's Playroom and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. A remake of the PS3 cult hit Demon's Souls for the hardcore gamer. And a big AAA launch title in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Last year saw the multiplayer game Destruction All-Stars. Housemarque's rouge-like shooter, Returnal. The triumphant return of Ratchet and Clank in Rift Apart. And Director's Cuts of Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima. This year seems to be off to a good start as well, with Uncharted Legacy Collection later this month, Horizon: Forbidden West in February, and Gran Turismo 7 in March.

The rest of the year however, seems to be a question mark. We already know God of War: Ragnarok, is set for a Holiday release at most, and the recently announced Horizon spin-off is set for PSVR2. But Sony has been rather quiet on future PS Studios games. So here's my predictions/wishlist for what SIE will bring this year.

* New SingStar game from London Studio utilizing the DualSense Mic.
* MLB: The Show 22
* Team Asobi will have a launch title for PSVR2, Jumping Flash
* A new multiplayer game is released, pushed by Sony as the big multiplayer killer app for PS5
* BluePoint announces Ape Escape 1-3 remake trilogy, plus a new Ape Escape in development at Team Asobi
* Some new download only titles from smaller studios
* GoW: Ragnarok is the big Holiday game

Having all this would be a good amount of variety for Sony this year.

Not sure how well VR will play online. But a AAA FPS PVP VR game would be a great announcement. Especially if it's from Insomniac.

Naughty Dog is announcing something this year that's pretty much guaranteed.

Hoping for a brand new IP from Bend Studios

Report me if I continue to console war
Im most hyped for TLOU2 MP and might check out Ragnarok if they make some improvements, but apart from that 2022 is not there best year for me.

Really want to know what’s next for Bluepoint. It’s probably further out though.

I’m all set with Horizon FW, GT7 and GoW Ragnarök. Much more and it will have to go into the backlog.

I’m ready for PSVR2 and i hope they bring PS Home and maybe some type of trivia game back.

They also need a rock band type game where you get to perform in front of people or do karaoke

Team Asobi Ape Escape remake/reboot would be amazing, I'm just watching EZA play AE1 for their 2019 anniversary stream, such a jolly game.

My predictions for 2022:
  • Atreus kills Kratos, becomes a trans lesbian and replaces him as main character, he travels to Egipt with her black girlfriend at the end of the game. Becomes the goty for the woke gaming media, creates a huge controversy: Gow and SSM loses over half of its fanbase. It doesn't achieve Sony's sale estimations and Sony cancels Cory's game to focus on rebooting again GoW but this time with Kratos as main character.
  • GT7 has the best launch sales numbers on the brand, Horizon 2 becomes the best selling PS5 launch, also outsells Horizon 1 launch and gets a higher MC
  • PS5 OS level improvements during H1: VRR, Discord, 1440p and folders
  • TLOU Director's Cut released for PS4, PS5 and PC 1 month before the TLOU tv show premieres. Bundles TLOU 1 remake (remaster in the PS4 version), TLOU 2 and the TLOU MP (crossplay between PC, PS4 and PS5) game. $10 upgrade for a single game, $30 upgrade to get the whole package if you only have TLOU1R or TLOU2
  • Spartacus gets announced in May, released just after E3: at the end of 2023 it gets 75M subscribers while Gamepass is still under 30M at that point
  • Main reason of Spartacus success: big marketing campaign, gets released on mobile and smart tvs, its 2nd tier that would be Sony's version of Gamepass (this is, PS Now without streaming or day 1 1st party games) is available worldwide
  • Sony releases Helldivers 2 and a couple of months after release confirms they acquire Arrowhead
  • Sony acquires Lucid and integrates it into Firesprite
  • Full reveal of Street Fighter 6 (previously announced at Capcom Cup in February) and League of Legend's fighting game plus announcements of Tekken 8, Virtua Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 12 (or Injustice 3) at EVO
  • DNF Duel has the bestARC System Works launch ever thanks to the popularity of Dungeon Fighter specially in Asia, Sony acquires ARC System Works
  • Sony acquires another outsourcing or porting support studio to help their main teams (maybe Iron Galaxy)
  • Sony acquires a very successful mobile gaming developer or publisher, possibly one big in Asia and also in PC
  • Sony moves Aniplex / Delight Works gaming part to a separate company to have them under PlayStation Studios instead of under Sony Music, in order to have all their gaming teams and projects under the same division

Announcements of stuff to be released in 2023 or later:
  • PSVR2 full reveal at E3: 2023 release, $399, also works in PC, GT7 gets full GT7 support
  • Team Asobi announces a bigger Astro game for PS5 (PSVR2 compatible but not required, PSVR2 launch window)
  • Firesprite announces a PSVR2 compatible Wipeout (2023, PSVR2 launch window)
  • Sony London announces a PSVR2 compatible AAA new IP (2023, PSVR2 launch window)
  • Bluepoint announces their next project: Bloodborne Director's Cut (PS4, PS5, PC), a bundle of the game and previous DLC plus a new DLC created by Bluepoint, overviewed and supported by From Software
  • Pixel Opus next game (with support from Sony Pictures Animation) gets announced at E3 and surprises everyone due to its animation and visuals
  • Sony announces a PSVR2 compatible Twisted metal reboot being developed by Lucid and released with the TM tv show
  • Sony announces a AAA PSVR2 compatible game developed by a new Japanese secret studio they created 2 or 3 years ago
  • Kojima announces DS2 and a small game designed for PS Now (but also released for PS5) and a Death Stranding? movie project with Del Toro and Norman Reedus published by PlayStation Studios
  • Firewalk announces their first game for Sony at E3, sci-fi MP FPS GaaS to be released in 2023
  • FFVIIR Episode 2 gets announced as long PS timed exclusive
  • Dragon Quest XII full reveal, announced as long PS timed exclusive
  • Horizon and GoW movies announced: starring Ru Paul as Aloy. They originally casted Tom Holland as Aloy, but he won't be able to work on it because will play the role of adult trans Atreus as the main character of the GoW movie

Just release a Bloodborne remaster, Sony. Or unlock the framerate and bump the res.

While your at it unlock the framerate for Gravity Rush 2, Last Guardian, and if you want an easy PR victory patch Driveclub for 4k/60.

Five us a proper ps5 patch of Last of Us 2, none of this 1440p crap. Btw I really hope the Uncharted Collection isn't identical graphics as ps4 just at 1440p/60 ..that would be super disappointing considering Naughty Dogs amazing remastering efforts in the past.

Stop disappointing me with lazy ps4 to ps5 upgrades, like Ghost of Tsushima, Last of us 2, and now Uncharted collection (ots painfully clear it's only going to be 1440p/60 on ps5 with identical visuals)

I’m thinking not a whole lot outside of what’s been already announced

We are probably gonna have gt7/hzd2 at the start of the year and there’s probably gonna be a big drought until the end of the year when gow rag lands and if we are lucky we might get lou2 factions

Any stuff they announce this year is probably a good year or 2 away from being released

Expectations are for a great year. Horizon, God of War, Final Fantasy, Forespoken. Hard to find much issue with their 2022 lineup, but definitely curious about 2023 since we don't know much

Yeah we're good for 2022. For 2023

Spider-man 2

Demon Souls expansion (more Archstones)
Asobi's next game
Firesprite's action adventure
Pixelopus new IP

Just guesses

I want to see more first party Japanese games from Sony but at this point it just wishful thinking, they are mostly going stick with their western cinematic games because it makes most money for them.

Firesprite's action-adventure is Horizon I believe. They have a horror game and a multiplayer game outside of that.

Having all this would be a good amount of variety for Sony this year.

1. SingStar will most likely be part of their mobile initiative.
2. Bluepoint's next projects are heavily rumored to be Bloodborne Remastered and Bloodborne 2.
3. The big MP game is Factions. I don't think Sony will try to push two first party MP games in the same year.

Aite, add it to the list then, didn't see it mentioned in the thread thus far! It looks like it could have a nice, deceptively deep gameplay

Yeah I’m curious to see how it turns out, it seems like its been in development limbo for years so…

But i like the concept
