Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Call of Duty dominate November 2021 | UK Monthly Charts

Nintendo Switch retained its position as the best-selling console in the UK for the second month in a row, according to GfK.

In second place for console unit sales is PS5, followed by Xbox Series X and S.

Looking at the GSD game charts (physical + digital sales), 4.6 million games were sold during November 2021 in the UK, which is actually up 5% over the same month in 2020.

Digital downloads accounted for just over 2 million of that figure, which is a drop of 2.5% compared with the same period the year before. 2.6 million games were sold via physical retail, which is a rise of 12% over November 2020.

November is typically a month that favours physical retail due to Christmas gifting.

Call of Duty: Vanguard was comfortably the best-selling game of November, continuing the series' trend of dominating sales during the period. However, the game performed significantly below its predecessor -- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
57% of Call of Duty sales were on PlayStation platforms and 43% on Xbox. 62% of the game's sales came as a download. PC data is unavailable.

The third best-selling game of the month was Battlefield 2042, which again performed below its predecessor (2018's Battlefield 5).

New at No.8 is Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition. The game's sales are 100% digital, with physical versions not arriving until December.

28% of the collection's sales came on Xbox, 13% on Nintendo Switch and 59% on PlayStation consoles (PC data unavailable).

The GfK charts are dominated by three Sony first-party controllers -- the DualSense White (No.1), Black (No.2) and the PS4 Dualshock 4 V2 (No.3).

Looks like Vanguard is still selling plenty despite the negativity.

I hope Sony has a big drop for December because lots of people are expecting some more hardware to be available.

Physical sales here would go to PlayStation. While the digital goes more for xss, than xsx.

Does this mean the gap between PlayStation and Xbox is becoming smaller?

Being best-selling won't matter much to shareholders. It's all in the revenue, and apparently the revenue decreased significantly.
Profit trumps revenue, and Vanguard will have had a higher proportion of gamers paying a higher MSRP for the PS5 and Series versions.

How do you know the digital sales are going towards Xbox?

GTA Remastered is all digital but sold more on PlayStation

But GAF keeps telling me physical charts are useless?

Seems like more than half of all videogames sales are still physical. Looks like it's everything but irrelevant.
Nintendo is number one everywhere. Its kind of amazing. To see the 2 greatest brands in gaming history Nintendo and Xbox have so much success again after the less than ideal previous generation is so encouraging.
Cringe

It had the weakest COD launch in over a decade. A slightly higher revenue per copy won't save it.
I know people on here like to make estimates without hard data, but maybe you should wait for that, and how much it has in terms of legs before making such definitive predictions. Especially when it's only been out a few weeks, and further lockdowns have started/ are looming in many countries.

I never said that. Its about xsx/xss.

Agreed. To my understanding, of 90% of their digital sales of Call Of Duty, it went on XB, even with PS selling more copies of Call Of Duty. I think it has to do with several factors. Of course the pandemic as in one might be less likely to want to go out, MP focused as it would make sense if someone believes they are getting some edge on digital and are ok with it living as a file as they only want to play online thus if the game get delisted or something, you'd be done playing its MP anyway so MP makes sense for that type of move, gamepass...the download culture on XB is much more dominate. So lots of factors point to certain titles doing better digital on XB then on PS.

Stuff like GTA doing better on PS has more to do with that longevity of the IP on PS as a brand as lots will have memories of those GTA games and would prefer the PS controller to re live that or something.

I also believe you might be seeing digital done more on some IP based on the whole cross gen thing as to my understanding BF2042 only has a cross gen bundle thing for digital. So such things...you need to really look deeper as to why it ends up one way or the other as I don't think any of this is as clear cut as it might sound

What? Do they forget to update their list dates or something, I am sure this has happened before.

lol I like seeing that fuck up, like they really came out in September and no one noticed lol

I recall that this did happen before though.

So folks about to be mad Call Of Duty and BF 2042 is still charting lol

Its market shift.
Players are shifting to digital, rather than physical. Especially with physical game stores closing down, your options is limited. xbox is fully embracing digital, which is why we are seeing more PlayStation physical copies sold.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

Bizarre decision from Sony.

My son would love to play FM on his PS. That goes for me as well. It would sell. Why in the hell would they be against it??

"The Xbox Series S is an all-digital gaming console for disc-free gaming. Disc-based games are not compatible with Xbox Series S."

Physical games doesnt exist for this console. So sales would be 100% digital. XsX can play disc games, so it wont have more digital sales than xss.

As for playstation gap, its 57% to 43%. Considering the Xbox one fiasco, that is huge improvement for Xbox. It means its gaining momentum in the UK.

I don't think Sony are really against it, like the FM dev guy mentions in the article there are a limited number of dev kits, and Sony just didn't prioritize the FM devs. I do hope Sony eventually send them dev kits though.

True. I don't doubt thats part of it, I think the cross gen upgrades, pandemic etc have a lot to do with this jump and only time will tell how this plays out.

When we end up getting full next gen games, who knows how that number will look like.

Data please. Again, we just saw a digital only release in THIS MONTH'S data where we had clear separate of numbers and PS was in favor by quite a bit. You're making garbage up to fit a narrative you want to believe in. Stop doing this. Just look at the data. It doesn't support the bolded at all.

it reminds me of the "news story" a few years back where it was stated that people who use IE have a lower general intelligence than people who use other browsers. People bought it hook line and sinker. "Oh of course that makes sense, IE sucks so you have to be dumber to use it." Then shortly after it was revealed the entire story was bogus and no such study or data existed.

So it goes with this continually stated idea. "Oh Xbox gamers are more on the cutting edge, so we embrace digital more!" Nope. There is just zero truth to this. The splits are close, and still selling more on the PS.

I'm not really shocked. This goes to show that many don't really give a fuck about the whole forum wars as a majority. I don't even know how many times that shit needs to be stated or how many of these games moving massive units need to happen for folks to realize, being mad online may not really translate to the majority really, really giving a shit.

When you have folks getting triggered over someone's hair color or chin size or some other dumbass shit, of course you are going to get a majority that sees that shit as a joke of nerd neckbeard people crying over Han Solo's buttons being a different shade or some shit, they simply won't take it seriously. I think the community needs to tone that shit down and leave it to REAL criticisms. The majority likely don't even know what people are getting triggered at with GTA, they might think its some dumb gatekeeping shit like "da PS2z iz da only wayz to play" and once that continues that way, many start thinking THAT is what people are crying over. I'd say we need to blame the rage youtubers more then anything as if you keep making it sound like the sky is falling, sooner or later people will just ignore the wild exaggerative claims. GTA needs real help and that game needs to be patched to oblivion, but if we continue to see sensationalist shit over every game, we should not be shocked that the ones that really do need a lot of work, also still sell massive units.

I think about how when I was a kid and I would get a new Atari game For Christmas. The box art would be awesome and would look really great. Then you plug the game into the console, fire it up, and realize that it totally sucks and now you're stuck with it. So you smile and play it because that's what you got for Christmas. That's how I imagine people who bought GTA trilogy felt when the game finished downloading and they started it up.

Do you have eyes?
Xbox has xss. People who own xss, will not buy disc based games.

Again, xbox had all digital system console, which is outselling xsx in the UK market, and it's easy for MS to make it fast, compared to xsx.

There is gamepass, which is all digital service, that Xbox users use.

I am sorry that Playstation users don't have that luxury, but you need to get out of your bubble.

At this stage, it will only be Playstation users who will have physical games.

Good thing I haven't downloaded the gamepass one.
I need to seek the old Xbox trilogy one

You're saying all this as if PS5 Digital does not exist.

You'll have to take into the equation if you want to compare digital sales for both platforms.

No one is denying the ps5 digital.

It contributes alot to Playstation digital sales.

The UK market has the physical games geared towards the Playstation 5, which suggests The ps5D is minority in that market.

I don't think there is any evidence for that.

It is estimated that the PS5 Digital to Standard ratio is roughly around 1:4. Let's say that XSS:XSX is 1:2. Based on the amount of console sale disparity b/w PS5 and XSX|S in the UK, that 1:4 ratio would be almost the same amount as 1:2. For instance, 1/4th of 3 million PS5 (750K units) is almost the same as 1/2 of 1.5 million Xbox (750K units)

I don't think in the UK there is any big difference in the absolute total number of PS5 DE and XSS in the UK market -- certainly not enough to completely skew digital sales in favor of either platform.
