[DF] Halo Infinite on Consoles: Xbox Series X/S vs Xbox One S/X - Can Xbox One Run It?

Didn't even attempt to answer his point.

DF are obviously the experts around here, it's all in their analysis, not sure why X1X being the second best console for this title (in their opinion) is such a big issue.

Experts are impressed by One X performance. How it's supposed to be.

Doesn't mean it's "better". Fluctuating frame rate automatically makes it 3rd choice for some.

Devs chose to run X1X at higher rendering resolution, and higher quality textures than XSS because X1X's GPU is obviously more powerful, has higher memory bandwidth and more memory.

They could have easily allowed XSS to target 1440p like they did with X1X, but they chose not to because the framerate was probably worse than X1X's 60-45fps.

Completely false. Series S has higher LOD settings and higher shadow quality. Rock solid 60fps too.

For some yeh, of course all opinions are different, but think it's quite notable that John believes it to be 2nd best console to play on.

Not to mention the actual article.

From what I can make out - he's correct:
In truth, this looks like a heavy cut-back and we'd hope to see an upgrade to 1440p at some point for Series S. Settings-wise, near-to-far foliage draw is identical between One X and Series S, as is the quality of texture filtering, depth of field, and even shadows are comparable. There are differences however, if minor: trees render slightly further towards the distance on Xbox One X, but it's a subtle change. Texture quality is very similar too, albeit a touch more blurry on Series S owing to the lower resolution. However, there are some scenarios where Series S appears to have the better of the old machine in assets but even so, Xbox One X is the sharper and cleaner of the two by running at a dynamic 4K

Still, the increase in resolution pays off, while One X's 9GB of useable memory is put to work: texture quality is boosted on Master Chief's helmet during his initial jump while skin shaders and texturing on other characters all look much improved, while shadow quality gets a bump too. Geometry LODs for terrain also use higher-grade meshes nearer to the player, reducing pop-in. We also see details, like rocks, render at range. Tree draw in the far distance is also enhanced, though it's worth stressing foliage to the near-to-mid range is identical between One and One X.

all I am taking away from all these tests is that the PC version runs really badly for some reason compared to Series X.

usually my RTX3060ti outperforms the Series X, but in this game it's not able to quite reach Series X performance.

Someone update me on the state of GAF and DF being biased and shills? Sounds like we are believing them again?

Impressed by the game. I think the open world lighting is rough but I have to say the texture quality on Series X is quite good. Enjoying it.

I'll let you know how my 3060ti does. Usually is quite a bit above xsx

Read my post again.

Where did I mention LOD or shadow? Are you aware that texture quality, LOD settings, shadow are three individual settings?

For him to say the minimum X1X is factually correct.

Since it's the only last gen console he recommends.

He clearly states X1X is the second best version. No ambiguity. I'm sure you can work out the rest of the order.

Not sure how anyone can interpret it differently.
Self evident truth doesn't exist. Fundamental problem plaguing our race, but especially so within the past century.

for me too, but not here. 1440p on Series X settings is not hitting a locked 60fps at all.

maybe it's that Tier 2 VRS on Series X doing its magic? but that would be a huge performance boost if true

as it stands on the 3060ti I need to use dynamic 1440p to hold a locked 60fps using Series X settings

False… c’mon.

LOD is better in XB1X and shadow quality is the same.
BTW XB1X LOD quality is the same as Series X.

Shadows at same location

Game is optimized for AMD cards, Nvidia doesn't run well sadly.

You know you need the object to cast shadow, no?

What you see in that picture is the Shadow on Series S being a bit more blurry due the lower resolution but the quality looks to be the same except the objects in the scene are different.

Check this video. Object is there with all consoles

And if you are curious, just watch the whole video, then report which version is better.

So the guy found a bug.
Because the shadow is not being casting when the object is there.

That is not shadow quality.
Shadow quality looks the same being more blurry in Series S due the lower resolution… that is basically what you see in the video you posted and DF says in the video/article.

As I said, check video. Series S version is better in any situation except sharpness.
I watched… and I was said is showed.

You are better using the comparison tool here with high quality image instead lower compression video:

PS. Most don't know but DF articles has the comparison tool that helps a lot.

Just my 2 cents John is the best of the group at DF because of his actual love for games and his love for what he does and he didn't mince words, he didn't pick certain scenes he straight states his opinion

As far as lighting its very odd indeed almost to the point it feels like some sort of weird mod

At times the gamma just feels like its wrong. Its not, but thats how it looks in certain areas. And then others it looks like the color space is off.

I am not sure what is causing that look, obviously other than the lighting, but I feel like jts some sort of technical limitation.

This is exclusive to the open world for me. First two indoor levels looked fine.

If you read before post you should know that is one of the case the Series S shows higher texture quality over XB1 X... the shadow quality is the same.

Edit - Just to have it explained.

The description of the cut part of the picture he posted.
"Looking down at a matching spawn point, Series S and X push what appears to be a higher-grade texture than the two last-gen Xbox One machines. Meanwhile, shadows and ambient occlusion take a big jump in quality over the base Xbox One. "

They explained that in the article:
"However, there are some scenarios where Series S appears to have the better of the old machine in assets but even so, Xbox One X is the sharper and cleaner of the two by running at a dynamic 4K. There are examples of actual texture quality - floor mapping at select spawn points - differing between the generations - one that may well favour Series S overall."

"An Xbox four-way focusing on the quality modes. Here Xbox One runs at a dynamic 1080p on its single mode, next to the 1080p on Series S, and a dynamic 4K on One X and Series X. Note that One X and Series X feature improved distant tree draw distances."

So we have better textures, lower bound res, loading and most importantly FPS, but we are arguing over which is the better version?

You have better textures floor mapping on Series S at selected spawn points (that is what the picture is).
Way better resolution on Xbox One X (even if the ocasional bottom is lower).
And mostly time locked 60fps in both machines with dips on Xbox One X in intense open world battles.

That is what the article and video says.

It says too that the Series S image quality is markedly inferior to Xbox One X plus they praise a lot the performance on Xbox One X with "remarkable" and "very impressive overall" words.

Outside that John said the Xbox One X is a better choice than Series S for that game.

We can wait more data about resolution and framerate like VGTech.

Riky Riky be happy you now have lots of quotes that higher resolution but much crappier FPS is better. I think that makes most XSX versions far superior to ps5 since it's usually just slightly lower fps.
Wym? VRR is here to save the day. It will fix those drops on X1X.

A working VRR patch must be on its way and will arrive soon.

Game favours AMD over NVIDIA. Watch Alex's latest Halo Infinite vid.

You could of just agreed. Much less words.

Looking at the reactions, it's really weird seeing all the Sony boys rooting for the Xbox One X :messenger_beaming: The warrior's mind is a weird place.

I find weird you blaming Sony boys instead the lies Xbox boys tried to create up since start of the thread.
But of course you do that every time ;)

You could of just agreed. Much less words.
That should made me wrong.
I choose to post facts instead.

I have a One X and Series X at home so can't wait to test it on those, but I just went ahead and downloaded it here at work on my i7-8700 with a GTX 1060 6GB
and was quite impressed by how it looked and ran..

Just search for my previous quotes... the first post in the thread that started all is a lie.
This?

Series S looks better, has a higher resolution floor in performance mode, loads a lot quicker and hold 60fps better.
One X version is good but well behind.
Opinion followed by facts ended with opinion. I didn't think having a different opinion means you are lying.

Yes he is... and he was corrected several times.

Xbox One X looks better and it is actually ahead by Series S... you can read the article or watch the video.
He said Series S has higher settings that is factually incorrect again.

ElAnalistaDeBits is a banned source isn't it? But could be wrong.
It banned because they faked the gameplay of some platform in others videos (they are using gameplay from another platform to made it feels better in the comparison).
They were caught hidden FPS drops in their videos again to make a platform better.

In both modes the Series S has a better framerate, in 30fps mode you have the framepacing issue on One X, in performance mode you get dips into the forties on One X.
Series S has neither of those issues.
That probably why Tom said in the article the One X version is the minimum way he'd recommend to play.

So using screenshots to form an opinion that differs from DF is lying? If that's the case most DF threads are full of lies.

I really enjoy Digital Foundry. I've been following their work since the first quarterly comparison article Richard started writing for multiplatform games between the Xbox 360 and the PS3, circa mid 2000s. The thing to remember is that all of this is human observations, backed up with math where applicable. You're analyzing what you are capturing. I'm not sure of all the steps necessary to do so, but counting and eyeballing the images trying to find differences are part of it.

Digital Foundry are experts at doing this, which is no surprise since they've been doing this for more than 15 years. Even so, there have been times where they were wrong. Well, not necessarily wrong in the sense that the data they show is wrong. But more like they sometimes miss some stuff. Or, perhaps, what they are suggesting do not always correspond to what we're viewing in their comparisons.

Like it or hate, there is a case to be made with this picture:

The lack of trees and certain geometries in the Series S picture compared to the Series X prove that the LOD value between these 2 consoles is quite different. On the other hand, you can clearly see that the One X picture does not have nearly as much trees on the foreground or geometries on the mountain in the background versus the Series S version. On this picture, it's hard to argue against the following: Best LOD value is on Series X, followed by Series S and then One X in the last position. Whether Digital Foundry says otherwise is a different matter, on the scenario shown on this picture comparison, you couldn't convince me otherwise just because DF says so. Remember, they're doing their best to paint the portrait and show us the results, but whatever verdict they reach isn't to be considerate as absolute. I distinctively remember one scenario where they were comparing Rise of the Tomb Raider between One X / PC and PS4 Pro and they were showing that scene where Lara is about to grab an artifact in an ancient temple and they were saying that in that screenshot, the PS4 Pro version clearly had less detailed textures, but further testing from GAF community proved that they were wrong and that what we were seeing was the results of dynamic dirt effects on Lara's clothes.

It happens. Doesn't remove their credibility. It's the nature of such analysis. You can't really give an absolute answer unless the developers themselves are stating pure graphical facts.

The pictures they posted show at the least that DF is not 100% correct. You failed to convince riky lied.
The opposite... keep reading the thread.
I not only proved and showed actual facts about what happened in his cherry picked picture... it was even easy because DF talking about it pretty clear.

But hey you are a bit late I guess... so read the full thread first and later ask questions... because you are just circling around about topics already discussed.
