Halo Infinite is really hard to aim on controller, am I the only one?

You can play ranked on KBM only if you like. Who cares honestly about cross input for BTB or quick play? They are casual playlists.

Aim assist not existing on controller would make the game completely unplayable with a controller. How can people not understand this?

I hear now though that even kb/m has bullet magnetism?

Look, if you need to use aim assist to make a controller work, fine. But keep that garbage away from my PC FPS game, thanks. Even if you need to split the player bases/segregate players.

I'm just not interested in a game with these features baked into it under the radar. Not my cup of tea.

You don't know what you are talking about. The game plays fine for 99% of the people playing it. Don't listen to the whiny minority.

I have played it myself and agree that it plays fine. I will never know about aim assist or bullet magnetism until someones tells me about it. So I would be wasting a lot of time in the game developing a greater feel for it before learning this fact. I mean, it's a free Halo you can fire up for a fun round of online gaming, maybe it was never meant to be more than that. I'll still play it for the hell of it but I will never be able to take the game "seriously" or care that much about building more skill in it.

To be clear, I'm not doing poorly in the game or wishing it was easier. I just don't like these terms of engagement. Aim assist/bullet gravity is total nonsense. I wish only the Xbox version had it and they were separate servers from PC.

Do players/pros not realise the same thing happens in Apex Legends if you stand still? I'll upload a clip from last night and show you what I mean.

I have two clips.

The first Ash pass is me moving the controller/reticule, all other movements are aim assist on its own.

Less full on with the aim assist (the first up and down is me controlling, all the rest is the game doing aim assist) -

7R1OPIU.gif

Halo isn't the only game to do aim assist and my first example is in line with what Snipedown tweeted an explanation for. Weird he never asked for that from Apex when being competitive.

Hey I need help. In Halo Infinite go into academy and in weapon drills select the VK78 commando rifle, now you'll see three drills for this rifle select the second drill. I'm playing on a base Xbox One with a Series X controller, now in that second drill the highest score I can get with the Series X controller is 12,250 (again keep in mind I'm playing on the base Xbox One) but the highest score I can get with an Xbox One controller is 12,325.

It seems there's a problem with using a Series X controller on the Xbox One (at least while playing Halo infinite because it seems fine on any other game)

When I first played Halo infinite I was using the series X controller on the Xbox One and the aiming felt wonky and horrible, I kept playing and I did get better at aiming but even after a couple weeks of trying to get used to it, the aiming still felt off. So just yesterday I decided to switch back to the original Xbox One controller and instantly it felt much better, I'd even say it felt perfect. But if you're playing on an Xbox One there shouldn't be a difference between an Xbox One controller or a series X controller. Yet I can score higher if I'm playing with an Xbox One controller (on the Xbox One).

Are there any of you who have both the Xbox One and Series X controllers who can play this same weapon drill and see which one you can score higher with? If so please post your results I want to see how many other people come up with the same conclusion as I. If others can confirm this then I'm going to report this to 343 industries.

Not problem aiming but I noticed yesterday that my shots weren't registering?

I did assists and didn't get them, I lost 8 out of 10 one on one encounters. I don't know if my connection was lagging but I went from 1.5 to 2.0+ K/D to oblivion.

Yesterday made a little testing:
-playing on xss, controlls working good & aimassist works ok.
-then played on my PC(m+k), there is no aim assist my performance was damn bad.....can't hit anything and had a lot of mechanical errors in my games( need more time to practise)
-playing on PC(conntroler), on same settings like xss there is strange aiming acceleration so I lowered acceleration .
-xss with M+K, same like PC cant hit anythig.

I had a lot of that tonight actually, definitely landing shots on my screen but not getting an assist when they got killed a second later.

How much experience do you have with m/k? The game feels very much normal when it comes to aim with m/k, you move your hand and the crosshair follows. No weird lags, latency, etc. it works as intended and like in every other game FPS I've played.

The only thing that I don't understand is the zoom.. when I'm zoomed in and shooting, sometimes (randomly) it simply takes me out of zoom. Very jarring.

Is it meant to do that when you are under fire?

But supposedly it's the lowest aim assist Halo has ever had...

If You Say So Reaction GIF by Identity

Right.. they did have to play a bit more of a balancing act this time since they are pushing it as a crossplay title, and I think at low/mid skill level it does work ok for the most part, its when you get up to onyx things are impossible for m/k

Well I'm a bit rusty because I stopped playing FPS on PC like 4/5 years a go. Aiming was net no complains there but for me was damn hard to execute precision & mouse & keyboard synergy.
With controller I'm vast superior with executing commands & aiming.
When you are zoomed in if they hit you your zoom going back to normal.

I see, well you are out of practice a bit and if you keep at it for a week or two it will feel better, but if you are enjoying it with controller, why bother..

Ooh, I see.. thank you. I was so confused lol it doesn't do that in CoD so that mechanic is new to me

Has anyone else had an incident where they got a kill "from the grave" by way of gun?

Pretty sure it should be impossible, but it has happened to me twice. Is it lag?

Just a reminder to people that unless it has been patched - Touching your keyboard (and perhaps mouse although i 've not tested this yet) whilst using controller will disable aim assist on PC

I often would use text chat in a game whilst using controller, so switch to keyboard to type something then back to controller. Or even Alt+Tab out to reply to a message on Facebook or check Reddit whilst a match loads. All of these things will disable your controller aim assist. Once you've done this you'll have to restart the game to get it back.

Yeh, there is aim assist with controller. Cant rly see deference from playing on xss. It fills same , only acceleration is a bit odd.
Using same controller from my xss.

Of course it works every bit as strongly as it does on consoles...

I was holding out some scant hope that MAYBE it wasn't true.

Halo 1 was my favorite FPS, but for this one change alone I can't take Infinite seriously beyond being a free casual game to throw on for some lulz.

I mean it was bad enough when you had to watch out for cheating, now that aimbot shit is baked into the game.

Guess I'll be playing Doom and Overwatch forever lol.

the only difference on PC is that some of the weapons will not display a red reticle once you are in Red Reticle Range. they did this to prevent undetectable cheat systems that automatically press the Fire button as soon as they detect the Reticle switch to red.

this means aim assist feels weird at first on PC because as a console Halo player you might be used to see when your Bullet Magnetism turns on (which is usually when the reticle turns red) and on PC you basically have to eyeball it.

weapons that need the red reticle for vital features like their homing ability (Plasma Pistol, Energy Sword etc.) will still have it, but precision weapons like the Sniper or the BR do not have it because of said cheat systems that scan for a color change

Wait, you mean on console, not only is there aim assist, but your crosshairs change color to indicate when it's going to work??

I didn't realize this because I was never a console Halo player save for when Halo 2 came out console exclusive and I tried to convince myself to eat shit and like it (I failed and only played about a week). I remember the energy sword changing the color for a strike that's about it.

I wish the servers were still up for the first game. Yeah you can find ways to play it anyway but let's face it you'll never have the same kind of player base that makes the experience. Though maybe I'll check MCC again I heard they finally added a server browser? Maybe Infinite will get one in 8 years too!

not aim assist as a whole, the bullet magnetism specifically. (bullet magnetism is when you don't even need to aim directly at an enemy but the bullet will bend its trajectory to still hit the enemy. so you can aim slighlty to the right or left of the head and still get a headshot)

on console, as soon as your BR's reticle turns red, the bullet magnet is turned on. same with the Sidekick pistol or the Commando.
in Halo 5 the Sniper rifle even had hipfire bullet magnetism which was criticised by many. but they removed that for Infinite

on PC the same magnetism exists but you will not see when it turns on, you'll have to get a feel for it

Bullet magnetism on PC??

It's nice that we have a free casual fps to throw down, but I wish it was a different franchise. I want to love Halo, but there's no way for me to look at this any way other than as a joke.

I do not want to "get a feel for" crap like that. I'll just tolerate it to have fun in some throwaway games for free. I certainly won't spend like 500 hours playing it like I did Halo 1.

Splitgate exists. Halo Clone with portals, has no bullet magnet and has better controls than Infinite as well.
sadly, the playerbase is super small and often you'll find yourself in lobbies full of bots as soon as you don't play the most popular modes

Halo has bullet magnetism. Halo is now on pc so guess what? Bullet magnetism! Shouldn’t be shocking.

Thing is these things will be changed and adjusted by 343, one thing that poster should realise is if they removed aim assist entirely almost everyone would be terrible at aiming.
Who the fuck is asking for aim assist to be removed entirely??

And it's laughable to assume that 343 will fix it when they did no such thing for MCC.

Okay?

Everyone should be equally responsible for landing their own shot. If it's hard without aim assist, it'll be equally hard for everyone, and reward experience and skill more appropriately. Again, see Halo 1 PC for reference.

This is like Mario Kart FPS where everyone is supposed to have fun and get a trophy, or Smash Brawl that tried to remove the skill gap between players. Sure there is a place for Mario Kart but you probably don't want that stuff in say, Gran Turismo. If they put that stuff in GT you'd have a hard time taking it "seriously" as a racing game, it would be just a silly fun game like Mario Kart.

So yes, I am saying Halo is the silly fun Mario Kart of PC FPS games. I like Mario Kart, so my point isn't that the game is worthless, but it's totally broken as an FPS game I will take seriously or play competitively.

In my opinion cross-play was not worth this. Console players who want to play with a gamepad should be able to have their aim assist and magnetism on controller. PC players should get a game without it...like every FPS we have gotten since I don't know, the dawn of time?

Exactly, like I mentioned I could play Halo 1 if I wanted, but the player base is going to be wherever the big official Halo is, so the only way to recapture former glory is for the real game to be on-point. I guess I'm just really nostalgic for the experience of playing Halo 1 PC before the servers shut down, but we're just never getting that again I guess 🤷‍♂️

It doesn't work like that though.

Zero aim assist on controller is just as big of a problem as the current babies first shooter aimbot infinite has.

Spartans actually do weigh like 1000 pounds lol. It's way faster than Halo 1 which had slow walking and didn't even have sprint. With sprint it actually feels fast to me for Halo but I didn't play 4 or 5.

Practice makes perfect.

I still miss shots(especially when finishing off kills), but most games I have over 50% accuracy with the BR. Even higher in Quick Play matches.

Yes of course...

people forget that from their very inception FPS games were developed for and meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard, it has always been the most natural way to play them, and its also why we need all these aids for controllers to be a viable input method for the genre.

"aim assist" is kind of a hack job really, and if you take it away the experience on controller is not going to be very pleasant at all, where with mouse and key you don't need any aid at all.

I'm torn on how to play this game. I've never had a good PC, so with Xbox and Halo Infinite, I can finally play a modern FPS with a mouse and keyboard. It feels great and I don't want to lose that, but it's hard to justify it when controllers have such great aim assist.

After a few days playing on Mouse and keyboard, going back to the controller feels like walking through knee-deep mud, whether or not I will play better that way.
