How does the number one boxed game compare to the number one digital game in sales numbers?

Crazy considering there was lots of digital copies selling. Switch is a physical monster.

The Switch title, which has sold over two million copies in the UK, jumped six places following a 567% jump in sales week-on-week. There was a special Switch Black Friday console bundle featuring Mario Kart 8.

For those wondering, the standard Switch was bundled with a digital code of MK8 Deluxe and 3 months of NSO.

Tesco sold this bundle for £239, ASDA sold it for £229 - other retailers £259.

Amazing time to buy a Switch considering the standard model has held its RRP over the last 2 years (£279 prior to the Oled dropping).

I said it before and I say it again, after GTA, Mario Kart is the most lucrative and appealing full-priced franchise in the industry. It's as successful as the top 3 PS4 games combined, it's a billion-dollar earner.

90%+ of my Nintendo games are physical. There's something about Nintendo that makes me want physical rather than digital.

Probably the inevitable resale value.

i dont know man. I wouldnt be boasting about selling a Wii U remaster. They shouldve had a switch MK by now. Built from the ground up on the switch.

The WIi U version came out in 2014 IIRC.
The fact that the game was on Wii U but still sells gangbusters on Switch is a boast in itself. People love this shiit and for good reason. The game is superb on both consoles tbh.

Yes, I have it for both consoles. I'm a mug.

It's a damn fun game. I've actually put in a few rounds on the Wii U with the wife this past week. Servers are still up.

Easily the best Mario Kart. I still have a soft spot for Double Dash and might like it more but I can't deny how great of a game MK8 is.

I’m sure it’sa great game but 7 years is enough time to make a sequel, no?

I just came back from a vacation where my son couldnt play any of the digital games in the car. Couldnt play them in the hotel wifi either. It is supposed to work with hotel WiFi but it took so long it kept timing out. Wouldn’t detect my iPhone personal hotspots. Even the demos didn’t work. For a handled, I was shocked that it is so limiting. That might explain the high physical sales.

1. Yes, it's a good game. Does it deserve a sequel? Absolutely yes but apparently Nintendo doesn't like money. Though, where can they go from this? Can they expand it further, enough to warrant a new game rather than DLC? Personally I'd love a sequel.

2. I didn't know that was a problem with digital, and it's shit if that's the case. My Diablo 3 game worked in USA on wifi though when I went there on business (that was a godsend!). I'm a sucker for cartridges tbh, and the 'memory card' games kinda feel like the old style gaming for me. I love it.

Would be nice if they made a sequel or dlc everybody would immediately buy. But Nintendo gonna Nintendo.
Well they need more hardware power for that. Mario kart 8 already tapped the switch out with 1080p.

No point in a new one if it looks the same. Because each MK plays very similar and on top of that a lot of tracks are always old ones remade... Again they need the switch 2. Look at how much 8 sells! Honestly it would be dumb of them to make another one for switch.

Pardon? MK 8 is pure profit for them at this point. How exactly do they not like money?

Switch doesn’t need a sequel to this game tbh, leave it when they need to sell a Switch 2, and they already made tons of DLC, its just bundled with the Deluxe version

Sales figures say otherwise. Why spend resources and time on a new iteration if your current effort continues to deliver increasing rate of return? " because SlimySnake SlimySnake wants a new MarioKart" doesn't cut it.

The best selling game of PS4 and XB1 = GTAV remastered

For PS5 and XSX/S = GTAV remastered (again)

I'm happy for it, but I kind of fell out of love with Mario Kart after the DS one, when they removed snaking.

I get why snaking was controversial, but it was nice to have an advanced technique to learn. I'm not advocating for them to return snaking, but I always wished they had replaced it with something else. Right now with the automatic boost system it's so simplified I just can't have any fun with it.

I'm more interested in KartRider Drift, I played the beta and it's exactly what I want. It's nowhere near as good as MK but at least it has a drift system that takes a bit of skill to learn.

IMO Mario Kart used to be a game for all ages and all skill levels. Now the gameplay has been simplified so much it's really for casual gamers only.

Wasn't the Switch the top searched for term in electronics on Amazon.uk?

Mario kart gonna Mario kart. It's an essential switch purchase. Even for me who had Wii U version.
I actually didn't care for it, and it was the first Switch game I sold. It just wasn't as fun as Double Dash for me, plus no horizontal splitscreen made me never play it.

This is what I Said in the series s thread. Everyone out here arguing about ps5 and xbox and switch just steam rolling everyone. Insane numbers.

It still boggles my mind, that there are still people who don't own Mario Kart and people in Japan, who don't already own a Switch.
This is more impressive than the attach rate for Wii Sports.
