Early Halo Infinite Campaign Previews dropping

Can you snag a used One X, or find a Series S maybe? Looks like it plays well on those consoles as well.
Just gonna try and wait it out a bit. I don’t want to buy one of those knowing I’m gonna get the XSX right after. Gotta hunt harder. It’s crazy it’s a year out since these consoles launches and they’re not readily available. Obviously covid played a huge part though

Instead of one big map fully open and explorable (like in say a Ass Creed game), Halo Infinite has smaller open world sections, cut off from the rest of the Halo ring.
Something like The Witcher 3 ?
Well think of it like one big map, but cut into sections, and you move from section to section once you have done the mission/missions in that section.
Nice. What are the "limits" of this map? Ocean?

If you don't already, follow this dude in Twitter and turn on notifications. He'll post when stock is available and it's super helpful. It's how I was able to snag a PS5.

My mission to find a series X before this launches is starting to look like a failure…
I refuse to play the campaign on my xb1s. Loving the MP but 30fps is so bad especially after halo 5 and every other shooter I’ve been playing. You do get slightly used to it but still sucks. Loving everything else about this though
If you're on the computer a lot, just keep this tab open in your browser;

It'll alert you with a chime when any of the new consoles becomes available at major outlets. It's how I got my XSX a few months back.

Very cool.

Does the time of day in game reflect your local time? I feel like I got a few night/evening lighting conditions when I was playing big team battle couple of days ago.
I think multiplayer day and night cycles are set in stone, they don’t change. Some maps are just set at night

This is all one needs to see to realize what makes this game so badass, and this won't even be one of the crazier battles. The way the Chief is surrounded on all sides from aggressive ass enemies, and then here comes some marines out of nowhere to back him up with some much needed firepower, just wow. No other game out there properly captures these kinds of moments the way Halo does without them being scripted.

Also turns out there's quite a bit of destructible stuff inside Halo Infinite's environments. Not just small, insignificant stuff being destroyed, but bigger, seemingly more solid stuff also. Totally unexpected.

Reading the impressions comparing it to Halo CE on roids has me excited. The more Halo went away from sandbox levels to curated levels that restricted backtracking the less it has appealed to me.

Halo CE levels like Silent Cartographer, Assault on the Control Room, Truth and Reconciliation or Halo 3 levels like The Covenant, Tsavo Highway and The Ark are why Halo has always appealed to my FAR more than most FPS games that lean heavily on funnelled experiences and spawn cupboards.

Love getting some marines (Chips Dubbo is a must) and trying to keep them alive for the whole mission. I really think I will love Infinite.

I'm glad you are excited and I hope you have a good time but your description of what's going on is better than what's playing out on screen lol.

This isn't all that's available. There's footage available everywhere that shows how incredible and dynamic the game's combat is. We have footage of elites moving like fucking ninjas, switching in and out of camo in a way we have never seen, moving with insane speed all over the combat space and closing the distance with the player in a way that makes them appear like bigger threats than anything we've ever seen in a Halo game.

Up to you if you choose to ignore that footage. 😁

My overreaction, hadn't seen/noticed in the latest trailer.
I think a lot people thought that was just some new promie design (which it has been confirmed theyre not returning).

im personally under the assumption thats the harbinger that escherum mentioned in the ‘20 gameplay trailer

It is, and he seems to believe they're on his side, something I greatly doubt.

The way you described it I could picture Chief fighting with everything he's got but being overwhelmed and just as he's about to be taken out the music changes to some epic sounding score and a group of marines come in yelling and blasting everything in sight while a bunch of covenant soldiers look shocked. Instead what I got was Chief just shooting and throwing things and then some mediocre looking character models coming into the picture after Chief has already killed almost all of the enemies and not having any real impact at all.

Why do I feel like there is a disconnect or a bit of hyperbole between what people are actually showing and how they’re describing the game? It comes off like low key shilling. Here’s an example…

I didn’t see anything in this clip the way he’s describing it. It just looked like he happened upon another outpost, alerted the guards and they put up a perimeter. How is that any more dynamic, exciting, or whatever than something like Far Cry? If you like the basic halo shooting and gameplay i understand why it might be exciting in this new semi-open world context but from what I’m seeing all i see are outpost scattered across a map and literally nothing else. there are no dynamic events like patrols to take out, or people in distress, flipped convoys to investigate or anything else unique.

Has there been anything to suggest this isn’t a big map with just a bunch of outpost to go shoot up?

I hope it’s good but from what I’ve seen they have not fixed the stale lifeless world. Which is a big minus for me.

I don't really get what he's saying. He likes the idea of "big halo 1" but doesn't care for the semi open world? How are you supposed to get a "big halo 1" without making the world bigger?
He’s just confused and talks because he needs to talk. But he clearly hasn’t digested things yet.

You have to read some of the previews. That mission in the video the player clearly had those marines with him already, or had freed them at some point during that mission, but the point is they coming in when they did, definitely helped take some pressure off the player, even if it was just as creating a distraction.

In one of many previews the player had no marine assistance at all, and Marines just came out of nowhere to offer support from a mountain overpass. I think that was in Game Informer's preview or IGN's, one of them. I also laugh at the mediocre character models comment because it complete misses the larger point that this game does for real what so many of those other games need to fake. The way the player and ally NPCs interact with the game's sandbox is still way more impressive than what's present in a lot of other games. Halo Infinite simply has more dynamic, more fun and often bigger scale gameplay moments than a lot of other games, so to make that possible in a way that works as well as it does in Halo Infinite, intelligent design/technical decisions must be made, one such common sense decision is the fidelity of non player controlled characters, and even then I think both marines and enemies look great for what the game is doing. The overall visual and gameplay package of Halo Infinite on the merits still clearly outclasses what I typically see from other more scripted FPS or third person action shooters. What I've witnessed straight up embarrassed visually and gameplay wise to me straight up just embarrasses Call of Duty Vanguard's more scripted moments. I like it a lot more than even what I get from Doom because, well, I just plain like Halo more, and I prefer its sandbox and gameplay over what's present in Doom, even though Doom is just excelling in its particular lane. Halo Infinite is doing the same, excelling in its personal design wheelhouse. The way Halo Infinite is designed feels like how Halo was ALWAYS meant to be designed. It's amazing it took 20 years for it to happen, but I'm glad it finally has. The grapple is game changing. No other game uses it quite the way Halo does, and I expect games to begin copying it. But it wouldn't be anything at all without the clever level and sandbox design created to make the most of it.

I've seen more than enough of this game's campaign to know that 343 has a guaranteed mega hit on their hands. They've knocked this one out of the park, and I can't wait to play it, and once I've played it, I can't wait to see where it goes in the future. There is more than ample enough footage out there to silence all doubts people had about this game. It even has much more destructible environments than people thought, another pleasant surprise for me. Many things in the sandbox, such as banished fortifications, with enough firepower or attack power, can be destroyed and broken down into pieces, which is quite cool.

It's Klepek. He could very well have a point, but because it's coming from him I often tend to disregard it because he's a disingenuous scumbag piece of shit. I'm excited for the campaign, but seeing how 343i can handle an open world design is one thing I'm nervous about.

You are talking this up so much it's never going to live up to what you expect it to be but I can tell you'll be completely satisfied regardless. I'd also be curious to know what you were saying with Halo 4 and 5 previews, the campaigns for both of those games were awful. If you don't think everything in Halo is scripted to some degree you are crazy, that stuff is all designed to happen it's not random lol games don't work that way. They all have scripted events that just kick in when certain things happen, it's not like they are just making up random fights for no reason, it's always scripted lol.

There is a lot of hypocrisy that he tried to cover up.

First off, that's crap. Halo 4 was AMAZING. Don't buy the bs about the game being bad lol. It also has the best story in the franchise in my eyes, and the best version of Master Chief. It also introduced some additions to the sandbox I actually enjoyed for the time that they were present. Halo 5 gave us squad commands, which I loved, I got to play with Blue Team, it had the best pure gameplay of the franchise, but just had a very disappointing story with not enough Master Chief and Blue Team, and right when the story was getting really good is when it ended.

And how can the game never live up to what I expect when I'm literally telling you that I've not only read a lot of previews, but I've also directly watched gameplay footage. Everything I was excited about this game for, everything I was hoping for has been significantly exceeded, the only thing left is to see just how good the ultimate story payoff is, and how much better the campaign levels and story encounters become through the rest of the game. This game has everything I've ever wanted out of a Halo game. It's far, far, far more story driven than any past Halo title. They are going the batman arkham route in making you feel more like the character. In the same way the arkham games made you feel more like batman based on the gameplay opportunities and game design, Halo Infinite does just that with master chief in this game. Every single upgrade you acquire in this game isn't just some random, disconnected event outside of the game's story. Every new main upgradeable armor equipment you get is an actual legit part of the game's main story. That exceeds the level of story interconnectedness that I was hoping for. The way they tell the story in the environments and during gameplay are at a level that I've never seen before in Halo. Remember that Cortana vision Chief had in Halo 5 when he first told Blue Team where they had to go, and it was Meridian? There is even BETTER storytelling than that during live gameplay and with sick use of effects and storytelling elements that NEVER appear in a Halo campaign during gameplay. These are things that have been exclusively reserved for cutscenes only, but we are now getting some of the best bits during live gameplay. It's a massive overhaul of the way stories are told in a Halo game, and I couldn't be any happier about that.

Sections that were QTE in a game like in Halo 4, Halo Infinite right out of the gate gives you a set piece topping the entirety of the Halo 4 intro level plus cutscenes, but you do that shit in real gameplay, and you have a multitude of options on how to proceed and complete it. There is no "this is the only path or you fail" feel about it. The Halo Infinite opening set piece destroys the end of Halo 3's warthog run. That's how much this game is exceeding my expectations. The second Halo Infinite level I saw looks infinitely more jaw dropping and impressive in its storytelling effectiveness than anything in any prior Halo game. It's not even close. So, yes, Halo Infinite isn't living up what I expected, it's far exceeding them.

What's another way it's exceeding them? Just go have a look at the capabilities of some of these bosses, and how these fucking elites are moving like something out of a ninja gaiden game, the way they jump at you, their incredible speed, and the amazing way that they slip in and out of camo. There's never been anything like it in a Halo game, such unique higher level boss behaviors. And some of these fights are fucking optional... if the optional enemies you don't even have to go after are playing this way, what does this campaign have in store for us? The strongholds gameplay, going after the big bases? They're actually living up to all 343 claims about you'll have many different ways to approach the situation. There is an almost insane number of ways that you can complete these objectives. The interplay between Chief and "The Weapon" or the new Cortana is another thing that has been far better than I could have hoped for, so trust me you don't need to doubt as to whether this game will live up to my expectations. It has already exceeded them for such a massive fan of Halo lore as myself. This is Halo at its very fucking best.

And don't even get me started on how awesome and open the levels are. The best parts of Halo 5 were the increased verticality of levels, but this takes it to a whole other more absurd level. So even Halo 5 not being perfect it had its good points, some of which thankfully make an appearance back in Halo Infinite.

Halo's gameplay is more dynamic and a lot less scripted than many other shooters like Call of Duty and a lot of others. This shouldn't even be up for discussion. Halo's enemies have more complex AI behaviors, with various traits and uniqueness about them that just plain makes them more fun to fight than enemies in more scripted shooters. Of course Halo has scripting, it just doesn't ever feel as scripted as in other games because Halo's battles can all play out entirely different from when you played them that day, the day prior etc. You do something different, the sandbox responds to you differently.

Basic gist from everything I've been watching on Halo single player is this:
  • Does not feel like past 343 Halo games (good)
  • The main villain doesn't seem to be all that impressive. Generic tough talking bad guy. Story doesn't seem to be much of a motivating factor.
  • Open world aspects are still not clear as to just how much interacting you'll be doing with it. Do enemies even patrol or move stuff across the environment?
My big question is just how much raw potential is being held back by this games foundation being Xbox One. There's a massive CPU difference between last gen and now (obviously). Makes me wonder just what would have been possible if made purposely for Series X/S. Enemy count, A.I., and how they travel and interact with their environment could have been massively different. If they decide to make another open-world sequel (probably will), I would definitely expect huge changes in those areas.

Have we even seen the campaign running on an Xbox One yet?

Translation, what have you been watching... :p

Every last thing you just said is answered and the majority have been saying great things about all of the things you brought u p. But just look at some of these videos. You can watch both of these and STILL think this game being on Xbox One has really held it back? Are you seeing the complexity of some of these environments and spaces, the number of enemies? The way you can traverse the environment? I've heard a lot about game design being held back by last gen, but this Halo game has drastically improved gameplay design over any past Halo game, and 343 are doing it WHILE supporting Xbox One, so I don't get it lol.

How the story beats are being handled, all of which still can't be fully shown yet. As far as Escharum being the generic tough talker, what else is he going to be? From my reading he appears to be just that, but then a little more than that. He actually sounds as if he might legitimately respect Master Chief, as do some of the other higher level Banished top dogs, and it's only the more ignorant ones who don't recognize the significance of who he is, and why he's not to be underestimated.

The game is running at half the fps on xbox one gen consoles for campaign I think. I won't say it's using all of the Series X's potential, because that's impossible this early in the gen, but clearly Halo Infinite looks a lot more designed around Series X|S capabilities than it is designed around the capabilities of the Xbox One generation. This game's vision and ambition was clearly built to be achieved at full potential on Series X, and the first 2 levels alone, along with once you get to Zeta Halo prove that.
