Battlefield 2042 Already on Steam All-Time Worst Reviewed Games List

"No, game is great! They just need to fix the bugs. All this hivemind hate." Except that this whole game disregards the entirety of BF's identity. Even if they fix all the bugs, this one isn't salvageable. They would need to scrap it all and start over. They're not going to do that.
LOL just like Cyberpunk? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

No loss IMO as other companies have picked up the mantle.

To be fair, GTA was a port contracted to mobile dev team. Cant expect miracles.

But BF and COD are in house teams who make their project once every 3 years with big budgets.

I know absolutely nothing about this game. All I said is that review-bombs for new big title games like this are not uncommon, and that this would be more interesting to me if the game still had mostly negative reviews a month or two into its release (which would be when review bombs should be cleared up or balanced out if that's what actually happened).

It's very possible this game is hot garbage. I never said otherwise. Everyone one of you responded like an over-sensitive teenage girl.

to confirm this hypothesis, why not check Steam for reviews of other new games that recently launched? Are you saying Forza Horizon 5 or Guardians of the Galaxy have negative reviews too?

BF2042 as much as I want to give it a pass, it doesn't deserve it.

It's broken and bugged to shit even with so much time in the oven with ample time.
No campaign.
Everyone hates specialists and they say, "oh here have some more, plebs" .
No in game voice chat at launch in a MULTIPLAYER game? What the fuck??
No ability to split console players and PC players who will fucking steam roll you (coming from said steamroller)
And better yet split the whole player base with this portal bullshit which is actually the best way to currently play it even if they ruined the balance completely.. Looking at you extra tanks in bad company

Fuck off EA, seriously.

I know absolutely nothing about this game. .

So you admit you're talking out of your arse and making a statement that is completely irrelevant to the context and reality of the situation with the game?

Let me remind you that "it is better to keep ones mouth shut and to appear stupid, then to open it and remove all doubt."

You have removed all doubt by making zero effort to research the situation and talking like your opinion is fact.

Steam already had more than 100,000 players peak. That's not even counting the people who bought it on Origin. It's not like people are voting with their wallet.

I do wonder how many of these people just got an EA pass subscription to try the game, without forking out 100$.
And how many people did refund the game.

Also consider that 100.000 is not that much for one of the biggest AAA games of the year.
Halo Infinite had a peak of 256.000 players on Steam.

Yeah I'm going to be skipping but I already bought it - my brother is playing it so horses for courses. I don't like the specialist nonsense at all and they were not the complaints most of the users had. Just a completely different game. It was meant to just be BF4 with bigger and better maps.

Franchises have ups and downs but I've never known a franchise drop the ball as many times as BF when opportunity was knocking.

Blows my mind how can they screw up the current Battlefield with years of experience releasing previous titles. You thought they would have mastered their own game engine and the Battlefield formula at this stage.

I only played the beta and while the core gameplay seemed alright, the game clearly felt very undercooked and it had a number of baffling changes to the gameplay.

I don't really care about Battlefield enough to get outraged about this but the writing was on the wall ever since they announced it mere months before the release. Battlefield game that's crap at launch is like the least surprising thing in the world by now and it's sad.

Hive mind hate for the game...
I hear Iraq is looking for a new Information Minister, you'd be perfect for the job!

The game is shit.

Oh, here ya go, even the critics hate it. Easily the lowest rated Battlefield game of all time:

That's definitely not common on Steam. Bunch of new AAA titles like Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Guardians of the Galaxy etc have mostly positive reviews on Steam at launch.

I didn't say this was definitely review-bombing. I was only saying this could be review-bombing, and if the negative reviews persisted after a month or two then I would be more interested.

to confirm this hypothesis, why not check Steam for reviews of other new games that recently launched? Are you saying Forza Horizon 5 or Guardians of the Galaxy have negative reviews too?

No, I don't admit that. I said, "Here's a possibility, and to eliminate this as a potential possibility I will be more interested if this persists over time." Then people like you got hyper-sensitive because your reading comprehension is (apparently) in the crapper. Change your meds because nothing I said was worthy of being this agitated over. I'm allowed to say things on the internet in a non-confrontational manner. You're allowed to respond like a jackass, but I'll definitely call you out on it when you do. Like now. Grow up.

This game is so much better optimized on console it's unreal lol. You'd think it's a completely different game.
Bro the amount of times I would either die and could be spawned back on,

join a game only to see my load outs were blank and had to use a regular specialist one,

couldn't revive downed enemy teammates as a medic who were just laying there waiting,

Helicopters flying through buildings,

It's rough on PS5

Tried the beta, thought it was trash. Came on here and shared my opinion about it being trash and I got laughed at and was told to chill because "it's just a beta bro".

Turns out it is actually trash.

I don't know why anyone on PC would play this over Halo Infinite.

Sure, but the multilayer part of Halo was free, and how many bought Battlefield trough Origin?

Tag, you're it.
I didn't call it out for review-bombing. I only said that review-bombing was a possibility. Also, I'm a grown man and I will do whatever I please. I didn't say you can't have alternate opinion. I merely gave my thoughts on the matter. I did not need to handle this any other way than how I did. My comment wasn't insulting. It wasn't rude. It wasn't aggressive. You, on the other hand, got more butt-hurt over my comment than you should have. Welcome to the internet, bud. You might want to pop a Xanax if you're going to be around here for a while.
I was hoping you could see why your comment was stupid but you seem too proud to admit AT LEAST bad wording. Think whatever makes you feel better.

I was hoping you would see you had no reason to be a condescending trollop, but you seem to proud to realize people are allowed to have their own opinions that can be spoken in non-offense ways which is exactly what I did. Seriously, work on your reading comprehension, and chill out. Nothing I said was inflammatory, but you and your ilk are behaving like angsty teenagers. Bye guy.

This is not true. I was asked before playing the game about crossplay and disabled It.

I only play with other Playstation players.
That isn't splitting consoles from pc, that's just turning cross play off all together. I meant making it so consoles can play together and PC can be toggled seperately.

Many countries won't be able to play without crossplay on due to lack of players aswell, thanks to portal mode aswell as low player numbers

See above.

this has zero to do with your previous claims. You claimed it was being review bombed because it was a new, big game. The article you shared doesn’t support that.

This isn't really shocking. It's a new game, and the review-bombers come out in full force for new games. If it's still that way in a month or so that would be interesting.

This isn't your typical Metacritic review case where you can spam these generic excuses pretending the game has no problems at all.

You can't do that on xbox. You need to go to some very deeply hidden system menu to turn it off. And then at best you can play AOW and nothing else because the servers for HZ and Portal are empty. They clearly forced crossplay with PC on xbox.

To be fair, a lot of the negative reviews are actually quite lengthy reviews listing stuff they dont like about the game. Its not the usual 'Game sucks lolz' style crap you get with review bombs.
The game just isnt very liked, and people feel let down yet again with Dice.

Yeah it's still really rough on PS5 but it's got a way more stable FPS than PC which makes the console version way more enjoyable.

This game needed 6 more months minimum to clean up its issues before releasing it.

Why do i feel the opposite, im really enjoying the game right now - i know it's not complete and i have theories as to why (more guns prob in the battle pass, new maps in seasons, store still not launched which is likely to come with the BP) but the core is there and its fantastic.

Maybe ive been abused enough by other games this year but i have hope and ill continue to enjoy it.

Just curious...

You don't find that to be a huge problem in gaming today? It's like they just say "ship the game in alpha status and we'll worry about making it a complete game later". That doesn't bother you? Honest question.
It does bother me but don't treat this game any more harsh and spread stupid hyperbole about how the game is garbage...

FH5 has problems and it's reflected in their user score. However, with the reviews glowing for FH from the press I think people are less likely coming in to this expecting to be disappointed. I think the early access previews and word of mouth for BF2042 has helped draw down the user score. A MOSTLY NEGATIVE game shouldn't run. . .period. It should have glaring problems that are unlikely to be fixed. That isn't the state that BF2042 is. Are there people who aren't pleased with the direction the game has gone in, sure. However because of STEAMS systems thumbs downs for mechanical issues are weighted the same as thumbs downs for technical issues.

. . .and as much heat as EA gets for this release, they at least had the cajones to release on a storefront that they don't control. I imagine we would be having these same conversations if COD was on STEAM.

The game has earned over 17,000 “mostly negative” reviews, only two days after its full release. Players who were willing to spend more could have been playing the game since last week.

The player base has grown frustrated with issues like the lack of a leaderboard, empty maps and problems with in-game vehicles.

You didn't do shit. All I see is a pretty hard damage control over a silly commentary posted without you even thinking about its meaning.

Let me tell you something in case you didn't get what people told you already. It can't be review bomb, because steam reviews are from people who paid for the game. One have to be that stupid to think people pay for a game exclusivelly to "review bomb". Are you telling me this a possibility? Do you have any basis for that?

Remember when EA/DICE used to do all those high brow "Above and Beyond the Call" promos during Battlefield 3?

LOL. Those were the days EA and DICE acted like BF was the best game on Earth.

Haven't seen any pompous marketing since then. The longer the series goes, you actually hear nothing from them like all the DICE guys are hiding under a blanket.

Underneath all the bugs and glitches , my problem Is just the 2 modes and breakthrough is just not suitable for 128 players , it is pure metro like chaos all the time and once the novelty wears off it's just frustrating instead of fun

Decided to check Steam's user reviews and the first negative one shown is this one for me.

13.6 hrs last two weeks / 13.6 hrs on record
Posted: 21 Nov @ 6:14pm

- No single-player mode
- No server browser
- No general, team, or player scoreboard, only your own squad is shown.
- No general chat, only team, squad, and party
- No VOIP
- No TDM/FFA
- No leaning/peeking out while in cover
- No score bonuses for headshots, multikills, or hit-based damage XP gain
- No persistent lobbies (back to the main menu after every match)
- No ammo pickups off dead enemies/players' kits, only obtained through specialists
- No levolution beyond the tornado, the sandstorm on the Hourglass map only hurts visibility
- No melee weapon options, though melee is completely discouraged by the bugs and low damage it yields
- No spawning in other players' passenger seats when game is about to start
- No changing teams, squads, or creating a new squad entirely. Squad bonuses, field upgrades, and drop-ins have also been removed
- No self promoting to squad leader by requesting an order
- No battle log/player stats page
- Laughable end-of-match player highlights with voice lines that make these battle-hardened soldiers fighting a global-scale proxy war act like middle schoolers
- Though the soundtrack is just as eclectic and electronic as past "modern" Battlefields, its placement is few and far between and is awkwardly sequenced throughout the match
- HUD is an absolute mess of small icons with large lettering, when an objective is capped a message takes up all of your top-screen real-estate for a good 5 seconds
- Geforce 10 series card owners, even the later released ones, good luck in even attempting to come close to a stable frame rate, as this game is far from optimized and server-end latency is common
- Weapon bloom (randomized spreading of shots) only helps bad players and hurts good ones
- Buildings are not as destructible as previous Battlefield games, rarely will you ever see a collapsed building or create tactical cover through destroying chunks of walls or terrain
- Crouch sprinting, being prone while on your back, and being knocked down from explosions from Battlefield V have been removed
- Reworked class system into hero shooter-like character select
- Can never gauge what height you can and can't climb over
- Customization has nowhere near the depth of Battlefield 4, 1, and V
- Only 19 primary weapons and 3 sidearms-- 4 assault rifles, 4 SMGs, 2 LMGs, 6 rifles, and 3 shotguns
- Shotguns are completely unnecessary as close-quarters combat is never emphasized
- 14 different vehicle types to make up for the maps' large sizes, though you are at the whim of availability and demand, so traversing the maps a majority of the time involves walking great distances for small rewards
- Tarkov-like "Hazard Zone" mode where matchmaking lasts 3+ minutes and crossplay is all but required due to PC's player base
