SEGA confirms deal with Microsoft won't lead to Xbox exclusives

SEGA's new cloud deal with Microsoft won't lead to Xbox exclusives, the company has confirmed in a new earnings brief report.

SEGA wants to use Microsoft's Azure servers to power its new games-as-a-service initiative. SEGA confirms these games won't be Xbox exclusives.

A bit ago, SEGA confirmed it was negotiating a deal with Microsoft to use Azure to host, deploy, and even develop its most ambitious games. SEGA wants to create a whole new type of game called Super Games, which are huge sprawling live service titles similar to Phantasy Star Online. It wants to have multiple Super Games on the market by 2030; SEGA defines Super Games as large online titles that serve worldwide markets and make $800 million - $1 billion in lifetime revenue.

SEGA needs servers to make this happen. So naturally they teamed up with Microsoft. After all, Phantasy Star Online 2 is already powered by Azure and SEGA wants its future games to also use the potent cloud network. SEGA will spend up to $880 million on the development of its new Super Games.

The news kicked off lots of speculation about a Microsoft buyout of SEGA or more exclusives. Neither is happening.

SEGA today announced that this strategic partnership won't lead to Xbox exclusives. Right now SEGA wants to diversify its market reach and release its games to as many countries as possible. The thought is that using digital games will reach far more players than physical releases.

We have also announced the start of a strategic alliance with Microsoft to create Super Games, towards the creation of Super Game which we are aiming in long-term strategy.

We already have a very close business relationship with Microsoft. We outsourced the development of their large-scale titles and as a third party, we are supplying a variety of titles. When we announced the concept of Super Game, Microsoft was sympathetic to that vision and that leads to the announcement this time.

About this, we are not talking about releasing games to Microsoft exclusively, but rather to develop Super Game that will be delivered to the world together, with their technical support.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
Anyone who thought otherwise doesnt understand shit.

Sony also struck a deal with Microsoft for Azure.
That didnt lead to Sony making Xbox exclusives did it?

Remember people the console war is only fought by Zealots.....the parent companies themselves dont really see it as a battle.....pay them and theyll service you.

I never saw sense in expecting this deal to mean releasing exclusive games on XBOX... That said, I do think that it can translate into more SEGA games coming to XBOx and who knows if linked to Gamepass.

In fact I think the arrival of the Yakuza series (complete in Gamepass), Judgment, PSO etc. it has to do with that relationship that surely has taken time to sign. SEGA games that were left out of XBOX, posibly, will now be as a rule day one on the platform.

We will have to take a look at what happens with the Persona saga. Its arrival on XBOX could be definitive proof that this contractual realacion between SEGA and XBOX has effects beyond simple server rental.

I just want Altus to start supporting more platforms.
well Shin Megami Tensei V is rumored to come to PS4 and PC.

Persona 4 Golden is on Steam and I think that made me realise people on PC want their games. Also, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne is also on PC.

right now it seems like they are taking small steps but it's in the right direction. I wouldn't be surprised if Persona 6 (likely their next game) comes to PS5, PC, and Nintendo's next console.

PC support mainly? we have one persona game on PC?

After how successful the P4G port was on PC they launched P5 Strikers on PC day one.

It would be strange if they suddenly withdrew support for PC for future games.

Microsoft should partner with SEGA and brand Xbox Series S as SEGA Dreamcast 2 in Japan.

It would sell like hot cakes.

Don’t care about exclusives, just getting their games like persona to become multiplayer would be huge, with Gamepass as a massive bonus
