What to Expect at the Upcoming Xbox 20th Anniversary Celebration

While Microsoft hasn't revealed exactly what will be featured in the show, it has promised that it will "celebrate some of our favorite moments from the past 20 years of Xbox." As previously mentioned, it won't feature any new game announcements, but Microsoft hasn't ruled out the possibility that we may see more of Halo Infinite, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Fable, or any of the other games currently in development at Xbox Games Studios. It's probably wise to keep expectations in check, but never say never!

One thing that has been teased, however, is the appearance of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his upcoming film Red Notice at the show. As many may remember, The Rock was on-stage with Bill Gates to help reveal the original Xbox back in 2001.

Speaking of Halo, November 15 also marks the 20th anniversary of Master Chief's first adventure - Halo: Combat Evolved - that led a launch lineup that included Dead or Alive 3, Fusion Frenzy, Project Gotham Racing, Arctic Thunder, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysey, and many more. It is possible these will also be celebrated alongside many of the other biggest Xbox exclusives from over the years.

I'm not expecting any earth shattering announcements. Probably a celebration of Xbox and that's it.

If we're lucky, we might get a few tease updates that we're already aware of, but that's all I'm expecting.

I have amazing memories from Xbox. I was around 9 years old, and I remember asking my father to get me an Xbox. I knew he would say no, but I tried anyway. Every single day I asked my father if he could buy me one, but always the same answer - "no, we don't have money for that". So I started saving as much as I could, my birthday gifts were usually money so I saved them. I washed the dishes at home so I could get some extra money from my mom (she wouldn't have the trouble and she would just give me 2 euros every time I washed the dishes and cleaned my bedroom). So I did it. I remember seeing some news about the Xbox and Halo and I always thought "I want this so much". From around August until December, I did that. Wash the dishes, clean the bedroom, wash the dishes, clean the bedroom. And then Christmas Eve comes...

I didn't have enough money to buy it, it was crazy expensive at the time. I thought to myself, "I'm just going to buy the PS2 like all my friends." (it was cheaper). But Halo, god damn that game. I was devastated, it was Christmas Eve and I didn't have my Xbox sitting under the tree. My father told me I should use my money on something else. That's when my older brother comes to my dad and says "So let's go buy it?", and I was intrigued - "buy what? Don't tell me he bought the Xbox for him and not for me." I cried so much but eventually my mom called me to the kitchen, where I would help her cook a nice Christmas meal. I couldn't stop thinking about the Xbox, but it was Christmas, everyone was happy so I went along with it. Until, it's around 23:30 and I see my brother bringing one last gift from downstairs and putting it under the tree. It was a huuuuge box and my heart started jumping. I went closer to check the box and I saw my brother's name on it. I felt uneasy and my Christmas mood was ruined. I couldn't believe my father bought the console for my brother and not for me. Midnight comes and everyone starts exchanging gifts, but this god damned box is still sitting under the tree. I'm like, what the fuck is inside that box? My father grabs it, while looking at me, and hands it to my brother. While grabbing the box with both hands (fucking huge box I tell you), my brother started smiling and came close to me and just said "Merry Christmas". As I open it all excited, the first thing I noticed was the large X and Master Chief's helmet. Never ever I cried so much of happiness, to the point where my younger brother was crying and he didn't even know why.

I remember that my father let me play on it until 8 am. I tried to give him all the money I had but the told me "No, I told you to buy something else with it".
So yeah, happy birthday Xbox! Hope you still bring the kind of happiness I felt back then to new kids (and adults)

And I'm gonna check this, even though I don't have an Xbox anymore

Nice story man. Felt very simular getting the Gamecube and SSBM for christmas when I was young. They told me over and over again that it was too expensive but I remember thinking I could make out the GC logo on something in my mom's shopping bag and it gave me a tiny bit of hope. It's pretty magical opening a new console on christmas when you're young. Not a small amount for parents to dish out for something frivolous. Bless them.

For real, it was really magical. Unfortunately now I don't own an Xbox, life doesn't allow me.

But I do miss playing some Halo and Gears. The green little guy was my companion for many years (basically the reason I started playing).

Hoping the Halo rumor ends up true. That's about the only thing I know about this event, rest I'll just see and enjoy.

Do NOT make Chief take off his helmet in the TV series trailer.

I want to know if they are reviving anything else from the Back Catalogue......imagine: "Yes folks for the first time....Shaolin Monks will be playable on your Xbox TODAY!"

I think what would really make my day is them allowing you to play XCloud in 4K if you have fibre internet. At the moment only Stadia is doing this. It would go a long way to sweetening the horrendous hardware stock problems.

Nah we won't be seeing Hellblade. They are still in Norway shouting at mountains.

Sony never did a 25th Anniversary Event If I recall.
Sony doesnt actually give a shit about it's vast catalogue though? Hell, even their main man called their own old games shit looking :messenger_tears_of_joy:

'Who would play these' (y)
That’s more like Jim’s personal opinion rather than Sony’s.

CobraAB CobraAB I’d say a celebration of Sony’s 25 year history would be a huge logistical ball ache due to the fact that there’s a lot of IP associated with Sony that belong to third parties (Spyro, Crash, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy etc.).
