Next gen update indeed..

Damn, not going to pay the 0 dollars for this ?

Additionally, such a drop makes complete sense. Back in the day when games were 720p full frame alpha effects without aggressive scaling were used. Devs realized these scaled incredibly poorly with resolution on memory bandwidth, which is the area that has seen the smallest improvement gen over gen. The devs haven’t gone back and altered these effects becuse this remaster is a simple framerate boost, for free. Plus with this engine who knows what else might break if you change that. If this area challenges the Memory of the One X at 30 fps, then obviously the Series X with only moderately better memory will struggle with a doubled framerate. This can clearly be seen on literally every BC title with fps boost that has to limit resolution.

No I think I got it. Looks like they are using the same account across the Xbox consoles so it syncs across both. That would explain why they look the same as far as weather and cloud cover.
🤷‍♂️
It really does look like better draw distance unless its the clouds on XS consoles obscuring the mountains.

The resolution situation is exactly the same result as what we had with the PS4 Pro and One X versions. With the pro having a full 4k res and the one x having a dynamic scaler on the horizontal axis. Bethesda must not have been bothered enough to make any changes to that.

Probably.

Like I said it's still a Durango file and runs of an external.

With an fps difference of .05 or whatever and and avg of 59.8xx why go through that trouble?

That is probably the case here.

The lines up with DFs findings last year when they used the mod to test the 4K 60 FPS mode. Xsx had FPS issues as well and we figured that a native sku would fix it. I guess they did fix it by downgrading the resolution.

This game is going to be a great little example of where the ps5 higher clock advantage comes into play. I’m guessing it’s due to the alpha effects where the higher pixel rate on the ps5 is likely doing all the grunt work.

Yes, and it was dropping frames like crazy the whole time.

Before implementing the DRS Series X was dropping to 34 fps in that exact point. Bit tje worst part is that it also dropped frames in many places where it now runs at smooth 60 fps.

Down into the thirties, not good I agree.

Looks like the ps5 has better draw distance from the pics you posted
In the far distance, objects are supposed to gradually fade away and their colors blend.

The new Xbox consoles appear to have an HDR issue when encoding captured gameplay, colors in recording sometimes look washed off, it will be fixed in a dashboard update at some point for sure.

That's what you're seeing there, not draw distance differences.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe the Series consoles use dynamic res to compensate for the fact you can actually use (non creation club) graphics/content mods on them, unlike the PlayStation. Either that or it’s a pretty lazy update in general. I updated it yesterday and even though it changed the app icon to have the “X/S” on it it didn’t prompt me to move it to the SX’s internal storage.
I’m pretty sure that means it’s not a new Series SKU.

I do remember some article saying the Anniversary edition would make a bunch of mods incompatible, but all mine still work. It must just be that the consoles are still working with the Special Edition code and they add the AE extras to that.

So one could say the PS5 version would have benefitted from DRS.

But it's understandable they wouldn't put any effort into that.

So this is just a BC game on both machines with no Series Ps5 upgrades ?

I don't know about PS5 but on Xbox it's like Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and Sniper Elite 4, it's badged up as a Series app but still runs off an external as before. Looks like the most basic upgrade, I couldn't see any visual differences when I played it last night. It looked the same as the X1X version running on Series X.

Well that speaks to MS's shady PR tactics.

Edit: riky you can leave lol emojis all you like but what is it, a native Series app or did MS fool people with shady PR/marketing? You cant have it both ways.

I think it would. I mean, every game would benefit from DRS. I think no one's going to notice if the game drops the rez a bit for a couple of seconds, but you'll definitely notice it the frame rate drops. Even a single frame drop is enough to produce stutter and/or tearing, and it's quite annoying.

True but going of what John off DF said was something like "it had little or no effect below 40fps"
Unless it has improved.

My TV supports VRR from 20 to 120Hz, but it doesn't mean John is wrong. If the game dips too hard VRR can't save that. I mean, VRR just smooths out the jerkiness that a variable frame rate can produce, but it does not magically turn 30 fps into 60. 30 or 40 fps are 30 or 40 fps, with or without VRR. 🤷‍♂️

Are you looking at the Game Pass version of the Skyrim? That is the Special Edition. I'm seeing the Anniversary Edition on my XSX and it isn't part of Game Pass as it says it costs $50.

Confirmed: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is not on Game Pass.

It’s even less noticeable when all they’re doing is dropping the horizontal res and leaving the vertical res intact. Since we see vertical resolution easier than horizontal, it avoids the telltale blurriness you‘d normally get from DRS drops.

I think its free upgrade with GP.

It is now running native in both.

Now what it was upgraded or not is another question… at least the framerate is way better compared with the game running though BC before… basically it now a 60fps game.

The free update has the frame-rate/graphics improvements and 4 free creation club add-ons (Saints and Seducers, Rare Curios, Survival mode and Fishing), the paid upgrade adds all the rest of the CC add-ons released up to this point.
Oh I thought the update that downloaded was everything.

It's a pity they didn't implement DRS on the PS5 version. With DRS the FPS improved up to 10fps in some scenes on XSX. Well they are a Microsoft studio so I guess that explains the "laziness".

Nice catch. As seen on a previous post PS5 runs at 36fps here so at identical resolution (native 4K) PS5 would actually have a higher average framerate as it's already pretty much identical right now.

I’m not sure about that… to be fair I believe DRS should not be implemented at all.
In his test the drop in framerate happened really very little.
It is very solid 60fps.

I mean in a near 9 minutes sequence the combined drop accounted for 1 second.

You definitely doesn’t need DRS for that.
