Resident Evil 4: VR Edition - Review Thread

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022

I have played this game on multiple consoles but this version is a whole new level. I'm 7 hours in and it's blowing me away. The early boss battle with the boat is simply incredible in VR. It's one thing to play the game in a 2D plane but something else going into full 3D. Amazing experience and the first real AAA Quest game!

  • It's an LCD
  • Yeah, if you're right in-between two of them, or outside the min/max, it's gonna be hard
  • That's just the fresnel lenses, it's impossible to have everything be sharp at the same time
So yeah, it's far from a perfect experience IQ-wise. I was also a bit taken aback with that when I first got my Quest 2, but now I don't really think about it once I'm immersed in some cool experience. And you can't really complain about what you get for the money.
Exactly. Look at the price of comparable pc headsets. $800+

Found an option in the menu to stop doing the cut away animations for jumping out of the windows, kicks, etc. Improved the game ten fold, highly recommend that setting.

I’m really blown away by how well this has translated to VR. With GTA:SA coming to Quest as well, I’m way more open to the idea of older titles reborn in VR having played this.

Having so much fun. Early in the game you jump through a window and have a chance if you shoot a dynamite before it's throw get a 6 kill explosion. Felt so good.

I will say that this game in VR you feel so nimble and badass compared to 3rd person, it is way less scary. I even feel like it's an action shooter game on rails. You can play it slow and try to build tension if you want, the walk speed is a little quick for that.

But-but it's too hard in VR. I hear that also lol

I found that I was sort of struggling at first and I became slowly more powerful as I learned the movement and gameplay better. Now, I'm just a total badass.

This is a OQ2 seller. I was doubtful but holy shit, it's amazing! Barely scratched the surface and fiending for more.

I really really want to play this, where I might just go ahead and buy it for my buddy if he’ll let me borrow his kid’s Quest 2. I wish there was some workaround like revive so I could play on my index

One question....

Only you need the oculus quest 2 to play the game.... Or you need a pc gamer too to run it?

Just the quest 2 for this game.

But if you get one and you like what you play then I suggest you also get a decent PC/laptop somewhere down the line to use link. Playing PC VR games wirelessly is something else.

Not the same guy, but can you play games specifically made to run internally on quest 2 (like re4) in higher quality by linking a pc?

Most of the native quest games are actually just ports of games that were originally PC VR titles. So it's just a case of buying them on Steam instead of for the quest and then running them via link.

That would be like trying to connect a Nintendo Switch to a PC to try to make the games designed for the handheld device to run better.

Picture the Quest 2 as its own console that also happens to act as a display for PCVR.

I played RE4 a few months back.
I can’t get excited for this but Im sure Ill try it in the future.

After 900+ enemies I realised this game just wasn’t the old school RE games I loved. Amazing game but just not Classic RE enough. RE8 kinda brought the formula back though, can’t wait to play that in VR

They just announced RE 4 VR is the fastest-selling app ever on Quest 2.

That's for voting with your wallets.
Big titles sell consoles, who knew? I hope every VR hardware/software maker is taking notes. (winks at Sony's direction)

Yup and that's considering Quest 2 has obvious flaws, still fairly new tech, AND a library that's just getting started. VR isn't going anywhere.
