I think it’s totally dumb that Sony removed patch notes on PS5

I didn’t see a thread on this and although there’s not much to say outside of it, it’s just very annoying. And I can’t really figure out why the hell they did it. Especially when the same game on PS4 does show the patch notes. So if you had the PS4 version on your PS5 you can see the notes... I just wonder who the hell sat around and thought this is something that should be removed.

This is just a me bitching, so if you wanna bitch too. Here we are.

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
I used to say this. Then last month I used the PS3 and sweet jesus.

I can't go back after using the PS5 for a year.
xmb was awful but man i really dislike the parties, and messages integration on the ps5. i like that the store is integrated within the OS but everything else feels counterintuitive.

Hard disagree. XMB was simple to navigate. PS4 flattened the UI a bit but was still simple to navigate. PS5 buries everything a layer or two too deep and is inconsistent (example: close a game out on PS3/PS4 and now do it on PS5, Example 2: click start on a game in your recently played bar versus doing the same thing in your library). Give me the prior two generations easily.

that, but day one on PS3 for me after coming over from 1 year of Xbox 360... that shit felt outdated the day it released. It worked well on PSP because there were way lower expectations on what you should be able to do on it imo

but the PS5 menus could be a bit less convoluted and weirdly named/sorted for sure... like WTF is a Game Base supposed to be? such a weird term for friends list and party menu

Lol who would even think the PS3 OS is better lmao. The Ps5 is is way better at least in terms of functionality and design. I mean, we all know the Ps5 is lacking some functionality but that’s because some writes the whole thing from scratch every fucking generation instead of just building from what they already got.

Uhh, I'm a complete weirdo that reads patch notes and my decision to install or not comes down to the patch notes.

Given another chance
I used to read the patch notes because I liked to know what goodies I’d get with the patch.
A Terreria patch note was worth your time to read!

they are adament on changing OS every gen for no reason at all.
OS they used for PS4 was solid and x86_64 based , dont understand why they had to """innovate""" again for some shitty gimmicks

but here we are. In transition small stuff that most people dont care sadly get lost

I agree, though very few developers actually used the function, which was probably why it was removed.
Next up - activity cards and PS+ help videos gone from PS5. :p

(I don't really know as I don't have a PS5 but do many developers actually use those features or is it first party output only?)

Yeah, it’s bulllshit. But even on PS4, the feature was seldom used by devs. Shit needed to be mandated by platform holders.

They removed a lot of features the PS4 has. It’s like the firmware team is completely different people.

I love that they decided to go with a brand new UI, every generation should bring something new and fresh, but features should not be removed.

I just wish theer was a way to download patches to storage and be able to choose patch version (with old not working online or something maybe).
This way you could have patches for all your offline games in the dark future

I don’t mind if they wanna switch it up a bit with the OS, shiny and new.. I get it but as someone said earlier they don’t need to remove features. Checking update info was huge IMO. Saved me from digging through shit like sixthaxis or push square or whatever their called. Was just convenient and doesn’t make sense to remove. Especially if the same game gets those patch notes on PS4. Kingdoms of Amular, I saw a new patch. Pressed start and update info.. boom Saw it all.
It just doesn’t seems all that hard to do. And if some developers to decide to say -look online- that’s fine, because a significant majority posted their patch notes.

I’m with you on this. Games aren’t full games on disc anymore.. never mind the CMOS battery thing. Half the time it’s just some of the game and half has to be downloaded still. I can’t help but worry that if old infrastructure for game networks die, a lot of games won’t even work.

Yeah... that's all amazing until you have a game update to do.
Install gran turismo 5 with all its updates. Good luck playing it in 4 hours with a decent wi fi connection. Meanwhile you can look at a huge bar filling for that same time.

That has nothing to do with the UI.

There doing so people dont figure out how to run customer firmware on it on the ps3 is/ was easy once they opened up full access from the USB hubs of the console same thing with the ps4.

nobody use the patch notes.

when i click to view the patch notes on ps4, its always "please refer to *link*"

Its pointless.

What? Almost every game has patch notes for updates. I usually check the update history when a game updates and there's almost always something written here for each new update.

Yeah, for real idk what some people are talking about. Very few times have I seen a game without the full patch notes listed. Even games today get them listed. Like I said before. MMO games are the only ones I can recall. And even then there was a link I could click to directly take me to the patch Notes in the browser.

I honestly can't stand patches/updates without notes on any platform.

Same. If a game I’m interested in gets a patch, I immediately want to know what’s changed/fixed. It’s dumb for the platform holders to cause friction here, forcing me to leave the console for external research.

The PS4 UI is worse than the PS3 but still okay. The PS5 UI is a much worse version of the PS4 UI. OS functionality has improved, interface has not. XMB with a modern feature set would be amazing.
At least put in a library search and a category filter ffs. Got about 300 games now with all the ps+ over the years and I can’t find dick without scrolling like a gay French prince.

Custom categories would be great.

Already in September, a past PS5 update presented SSD development for all clients after some underlying testing, taking into account altogether more capacity.

And I want my whole library that is downloaded on the home bar. I know I’m in the minority with this preference. But I want to see every game I have installed. Just the option would be nice. I don’t know what the hell is with this removing shit kick their on.

Should be like the recent iOS updates. Pin what you want, the rest sits in an auto category App Library. Done.
