I'm kind of tired of the Beta and COVID-19 excuses. This "Beta" is in shambles more so than any beta in recent memory, and for this ONLINE only game to be in this state few months away from launch at $70 is inexcusable.

I'll keep an open mind and see how the launch goes and still give it a chance if they manage to fix a lot of the underlying issues. Time will tell but they need to earn it.
You can believe it’s a “beta” to fit your own rationale, but it is actually a beta, warts and all. It is a months old version, missing many features. This doesn’t indicate anything other than that. You can see many of the missing features in the trailers intended for the launch version if you want. Yet, that doesn’t guarantee a great game, I realize, but there seems to be a lot of folks rushing to judgement on a beta, not a demo, hence the disclaimer upon launching the file - and that seems to speak more about the players state than the beta’s.

They need to work on that performance. Frame rate really tanked on the Series X at certain places when it was busy. Feels awful when compared to the smooth 60 you get in other places.

Right. I've been part of the beta train for 20 years and funny how most of them bring all the baggage into launch version of the product. So no I'm not convinced that everything will be just dandy on launch especially since this beta is not even a polished version of a beta by beta standards alone.

2042 still generates multiplayer fun, I see plenty updates coming and I'm not trying to sell Battlefield it's still a fun beta.

No, it was among my more anticipated titles this year to play with buddies, but I cancelled my preorder. It just wasn't fun to play and felt absolutely barren despite having 128 players. Visual glitches was borderline giving me a seizure. I know its an older build but looking at their past releases I'd rather wait as launch is usually pretty bad as well. Plus there are other games that offer more polished FPS experiences, which I know aren't this setting or theme, but I'm also not a big FPS fan anymore and find myself inundated with them.

Plus with all the games to play right now I can wait until a deep sale or Gamepass.

keep in mind they were using bots in the beta (and not disclosing it in any obvious way). so it might just have felt like that
It was very obvious when you were playing against AI actually.

Score menu would show how many players were in the game.

AI would always have generic soldier skins instead of specialists.

AI would have (Rank)name.name[AI].

I would say that the AI was so incredibly stupid that it was obvious but Battlfield has always had some very, uh, 'special' players anyway.

Beta map is horrible IMO. I know this is an older build stated by devs so release might be a bit more polished and TTK will be altered. The customizing weapon on the fly shit is awesome and the vehicles felt a bit sloppy flying was fun though. Looking foward to the Portal mode and the options we'll get from it and looking foward to the few other maps being released at launch because this launch pad one wasn't appealing.

Outside of all bugs and glitches, performance problems, what really kills this game is retarded Specialists system and gutting of original class system. It's really dumb and I can't wait for rework after one year on market because fans will be bitching.

Sadest thing is that Specialists are in the game literally so EA can have reason to sell us Battle Passes

Defo yes. It's exactly what I wanted from. Battlefield since 4. 1 and V didn't do it for me based on the setting and the more noob friendly shooting mechanics. Granted the shootings needs a little bit of work especially the ballistic curve for rpgs and flight controls are weird but apart from that it's finally back to carefully placed single shots and short bursts of controlled fire. Tanks, helis, jets... yessir. Im loving it and want more.

The game feels like pure chaos. I've only skipped one Battlefield in their entire history, which was Hardline.
This will be the second.
  • There is no flow to the map.
  • You seem to die instantly most of the time, trash net code?
  • Weapon balance in general makes no sense.
  • Way too many air vehicles. Helicopters decimate anyone on the ground.
  • Enemies appear out of nowhere, all the time.
  • The game is just spawn, die, spawn, die.
  • Doesn't feel like Battlefield at all.

If I buy a used copy there's no profit for EA right??🤔😆

Yes If the other maps are better than Orbital(or whatever the name of this shitty map is)
No If they suck just Like Orbital. No thanks.

Its a bit rough around the edges, but so was the BF5 beta. I had the most amount of fun playing this earlier with my mates though. Loved the map, had so much fun just hanging around at the top of B1 shooting heli's and jets down with the stinger, whilst being healed and resupplied by squaddies. Can't wait to play the other maps as well next month.

Sure it needs a bit of spit and polish (and some of the glitches are seizure inducing) but the gameplay was second to none for me today :messenger_grinning:

Doesnt even come close to that feeling of something new BF1 created in every way. This feels like BF4 DLC, so good for those who wanted more of that but anyone who cant feel almost everything is done to cater to those who make YT vids. All I can say is have fun, Ill catch it like I caught V in the bargain bin.

Yet if the did WWI again, someone would just say "this feels like BF1 DLC"

Shit, someone could just argue with BFV "oh this feels like BF1 DLC" etc

You are not going to please everyone. Some like the modern/futuristic stuff, some like the old WWI/WWII stuff. I like BF1 and I can't even fucking argue that they had a lot of "new" going on in that game, I like it cause it focused on a lot of the classic concepts in the first place, I'd argue with the whole tornado thing, robot dogs, largest map in BF history and increased player count, BF2042 does more new then the last few BF titles, you just want to ignore facts on this man...

I don't even know how anyone sees BF1 as "feeling of something new" based on a old war and based on BF1 more so continuing BF core concepts vs some revolutionary new idea or something. I like all the BF titles, but your comment sound forced as fuck, like you are trying your best to pretend some brand new things happened in BF1, but zero new anything is happening in BF2042.

Basically we got 128 players before as that isn't "new" to BF
We got robot dogs before
We got grappling hooks before
and we got tornados that alter the actual physical map before as nothing like that is "new" apparently? Are you 100% sure about that?

I like certain BF's more then others too, what I don't do is spread BS about a game and make shit up like the new game offers nothing new compared to xyz. Theses are some of the most changes we've seen in BF in a whole generation, nothing done in BF4, BF1 or BFV even comes close to what they are attempting in this game and something tells me when a sequel rolls out like BF Vietnam or something, we'll get the same shit like "doesn't even come close to that feeling of something new BF 2042 created" lol

I think some of these comments come from some casuals who don't understand BETA BUILDS and that this 3 months old....WAIT UNTIL FINAL CODE TO JUDGE..... :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

I remember seeing posts like this before Anthem and Fallout 76. I’ve been conditioned in recent years to view problems like this in a build so close to launch as a very concerning sign

hope it works out, but I canceled my preorder.

Comments like yours come from people with the memory of a goldfish or choose to ignore that every battlefield game since at least BF3 released with laundry lists of bugs and broken things after massively buggy betas.

I feel bad for anyone choosing to pay for a Dice game at release in 2021.

Nope. Did not enjoy it at all. I played terribly. The maps are too big. Guns don't feel good.

This after the halo infinite was night and day. The latter will be where I'm spending my time

Maybe. I will need to see how much they can fix between now and launch. The beta is promising but it's equal parts fun and frustrating.

Definitely not a launch day buy but maybe day 2 or 3 depending on the state of it.

I wanted to try the open beta to make sure my spotty internet connection these days can support playing the game, but then noticed the network graph isn't working on PS5. Least I couldn't get it to appear.

I also wanted to look for the server browser, but I guess that's not a thing in beta or not a thing on consoles.

It felt like battlefield for the few moments I got to play, but also parts of it felt woefully incomplete.

I think ultimately battlefield may win by default due to me having no interest in Vanguard and not a lot of things interest me in November.

I played 2042 and BF1 back to back yesterday and I gotta admit that BF1 was just more fun and so much more immersive.

I think 2042 has a good foundation, but man this map was boring as hell. There is so much running from point a to point b with nothing happening for minutes on end just so you get killed by a sniper.
Just go on youtube and watch some actual gameplay of the two games and I mean actual gamepaly, not some supercuts of people trying to impress with their kills. There might be half as many players in BF1, but there is 5 times the action. It also just looks better. More moving objects, more particle effects, more detail in the environment. 2042 feels sterile in comparison.

Also there is absolutely no squad play in 2042. Everytime you want to spawn in you can see that all your squad is scattered over the entire map. I mean its not like other BF's outside of BF2 are so much better in that regard, but at least those game had classes. So when you spawn in as a medic, you make the active decision to heal and revive people to get points, because you are otherwise handicapped by having less killing power.

Now no one has a class, so no one feels responsible for healing or reviving. Most people will get a medic crate just so they can heal themselves. Somehow they made so many steps back, that I just cant figure out how those meetings went when all these decisions were being green lit.

Maybe its just that this was a shitty map that encourages boring lone wolf gameplay. Maybe conquest doesnt work as well with these huge maps. Maybe the other gamemodes make it all better. Maybe portal will be the savior of this game. But I think I'll wait till the price drops or it goes to EA Play or what its called for free. Right now I dont think the game is in a state were I want to play it.
I'm going to try out Hell Let Lose today on my PS5 since its free with Plus and see if that can scratch that itch for an immersive team fps.

Edit: To all the people that are saying BF1 was good! No it was fucking terrible and was the big fall of the series imo.
The spawning of vehicles in a menu and the general dumbing down was a joke.

No its not a bad game, its just your opinion. Its a different type of Battlefield game though. Vehicle spawning in a menu was a good idea because in other Battlefields there would sometimes be 10 people sitting a the HQ vehicle spawn doing nothing at all and just waiting for the helicopter/jet/tanks to spawn and often killing themselves over it. That was not a good feature. The spawning on a menu has other problems as well, but its neither better nor worse imho. The reason they implemented it, is so that more people are actually playing and not sitting around, which I get.
The reason they implemented specialists is so that each player can be more self reliant, probably because of the big maps, since they realized that sometimes people are just too spread out. However, that undermines teamplay and I am not fine with this.

BF1 is certainly a different kind of Battlefield, its a departure from a lot of the other games, but in retrospective I can appreciate that game for what it does. Its by far the most immersive BF game, it has a great feeling to hit, guns feel amazing and the pure awe moments are everywhere. The game just feels like an actual battlefield.

All of this is of course also just my opinion, as I am sure 2042 will find a lot of people who really like it. Maybe I will too at some point, but not right now.

i was cautiously excited for it (loved bf2,3,4) but the beta killed all hype. it doesn't look any different to BF3/BF4 despite me playing max settings on PC. so many bugs/performance issues and the UI is a cluttered mess.

if i play it then it'll be some point next year after it's been patched and improved a bit. i won't be buying it. i'll probably just pay £80 for a year of EA play and access it through that. there are 4 other games i want to play and with 2042 it'll be 5. £80 to play £160 worth of games? yeah i'll do that.

There are so many smaller titles in this genre today with many different creative takes on it. This beta was a huge middlefinger in the face of every player. I can't understand how one could support this. I guess this is why they keep getting away with feeding us shit. Try some other shooters folks. Theres plenty for all kinds of taste.

lol just stop man.

Why do gamers always have all this hyperbole? Shit, if it wasn't for you fine, but relax with making it sound like you are offended at the game or something lol

Be like "I just can't understand how anyone can support the horror at doubling the player count, having the largest maps in BF history and free MP maps going forward to not split the base...THE HORROR" /s lol

They are getting away with having 128 players, adding bots, larger maps, adding in stuff like robot dogs and grappling hooks as well as free maps in terms of DLC going forward? That shit sounds fucking awful /s

So 256 players and maps 3x the size is the norm or something? lol

I agree plenty of different MP titles exist, but I see nothing offensive about this offering. They have addressed lots of shit that people complained about in the past like adding in the bots and free maps etc I'll still play something new like that Back 4 Blood game, but I'll still buy BF for the new things they are doing too as I feel gamers have a tendency to fucking exaggerate a lot of shit.

I love BF, but hated 5. This continues the things I hated about 5. Too much Call of Duty influence (fast movement, fast TTK), the maps are too big for infantry to move around on easily, and now they’ve added “operators” cause that’s the trend. All we need is the classic 4 or 5 classes.

I’ll buy this…but only after I see what launch is like and if fells like classic BF and not some ridiculous CoD hybrid.

I didn't like the beta. especially because I'm playing on ps5 and pc players literally demolished me I don't know why. I was so "normal" against pc players in cod vanguard.

I would buy it right away but thanks to the Beta i noticed that sadly my PC isnt running this game good enought for me to enjoy it. So buying a new Gpu would fix that but no way at these prices atm :D
So then i played the beta on Ps5 and feels great but then it seems like no Mouse and Kb.... so pass... sadly, the game feels great and Portal should be a great deal of fun!

There is a cross play toggle in one of the option menus on PS5 😃
I know but if you disable crossplay game makes you play with ai because there's not enough people on ps5 to fill a 128 player lobby. I won't pay 70 euros to play with bots. Apex does it well, COD Vanguard apparently does it well. Battlefield should do it too.
