DF: The Touryst PS5 - The First 8K 60fps Console Game

The res is getting downsampled so it looks very clean. It's not a common used resolution for gaming and it's the first game with internal 8K rendering. No it doesn't mean it's important, but that small res difference between Hitman 3 on XSX and PS5 was more "important" for the xbox fanboys and still using that as the "big" hardware difference between the 2 consoles to this day, when it's just a engine thing and nothing more.

This thread wouldn't have so many pages if some butthurt and XSX hardware brainwashed/obsessive xbox fanboys, have come in to convince ps fans again that there is nothing better than the XSX.

Fair play, carry on :)

Hilarious reason actually considering everything we know and have seen now and after everything Mark fucking Cerny said on the road to PS5. He seems like one of the PS5 is RDNA 1.5 9TF types.

No they don't? The idea that them showing the words Hardware-Based Ray Tracing somehow gives you doubt it has Hardware-Based Ray Tracing is pure insanity, and the idea that his first response was weak when it was
“There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware,” Cerny told Wired , “which I believe is the statement that people were looking for.” also pretty crazy, You think they are advertising something the console doesn't have and doing so repeatedly, Good god man

I actually believe they are and suspect sony knows it. I'd love to be proven wrong. I'm going to own a PS5, too, but I don't believe them on hardware ray tracing.

So he was actively speculating/spreading FUD that the PS5 won't have HW-based ray-tracing even after Mark's explicit confirmation? Then he turned out to be wrong (of course!). Now he still keeps speculating about things he doesn't know (SFS/ML etc.) and tries convincing everyone that he is right (even though he was literally wrong about HW RT). Wow.

(I don't go on Era so I never knew about this.)

So he basically is Alex Battaglia then...

We do have to all admit that it is funny that resolution matters now?

Literally 16 pages over a resolution that no ones TV can actually display or the PS5 can even output.....But VRR is irrelevant?

This is a classic!

I do think its really cool video and you can clearly see the benefit the super sampling provides but surely its not 16 pages on a 2 year old switch game?

News is that dry?
All else being equal, why wouldnt you want a higher res? If its at the cost of performance then fuck resolution.

Yep. GPU clock is similar to PS4, while the memory clock is even faster than PS4.
Erm... Firstly, the GPU clock speed between PS4 and Switch isn't comparable. They're using two very different GPU architectures designed by two different companies. Memory clock is also not comparable as one is using low-power DDR4 type and the other is power-hungry GDDR5 with a much wider interface. Apples to oranges comparisons like this from you doesn't look good when you've just come back from a ban.

Also, Switch's GPU doesn't run at high frequencies, it's quite the opposite. It uses Tegra X1 with a heavily downclocked GPU especially in the handheld, even in dock mode it's 30% slower than stock Tegra X1's max GPU clock, it's an energy-conscious handheld so they're clocked lower, to begin with just like Steam Deck's SoC is. They are never set to run at "high frequencies".

Absolutely, if performance isn't affected. Push that resolution to the limit. This is a solid 60 FPS on PS5 so it's pretty much perfect.

The absolute definitive way to play this particular game on the big screen comfy couch!

With that flawed logic, the AMD's GPU inside Steam Deck is also "fast and narrow" because GTX 1070 Ti from 4 years ago also runs at a similar clock speed. This is basically what you're saying right now.

It is fast and narrow. It runs at up to 1.6 GHz while only having 8 CUs. It's basically the definition of fast and narrow.

It's not slow. And it being narrow adds to my point. It's gonna scale much better with frequency than with CUs.
No. Even the iPhone 8 and newer Snapdragon SoCs run at faster clocks than the Switch.

Your point does not stand when your point is made on false information.
No it's not.
The Switch is clocked very low compared to the capability of the actual Tegra SoC it is based on.
The full X1 speed being higher doesn't mean that the Switch X1 is slow. It also has nothing to do with my point.
The same game runs at 8K on PC with more CUs than even PS5.
It very likely doesn't . Feel free to link a benchmark that proves otherwise.

This thread has delivered.

Anyone bought the game?

Props to shin en using the extra time to go back and increase the quality on shadows and depth of field. They used this opportunity to really get down to the nitty gritty of the ps5s hardware. I hope more devs do that on games with timed exclusivity.
Do you honestly think anyone has bought this game? LOL. No they just want to console war over a game that has been on Switch and XSX for ages and no one played then. But now it's 8k, OMG best game ever! /s

It is slow. When the RDNA 2 architecture is capable of reaching near 3 GHz then Steam Deck's 1.0-1.6 GHz in comparison is extremely slow.

Clock speeds are supposed to be compared between the same architecture. In Switch's case, you should compare it with another NVIDIA 2nd gen Maxwell arch, which can be capable of running upwards of 1.5+ GHz locked. Twice that of Switch's max. Based on this, its 0.3-0.7 GHz is painfully slow.

I'm comparing between consoles. You never argued my actual point btw. Do you agree that a game built for the Switch will scale better with frequency than with CUs? If no, why?

The GPU cores are clocked at 768 MHz when the device is docked, and in handheld mode, fluctuating between the following speeds: 307.2 MHz, 384 MHz, and 460 MHz. This gives the Switch's GPU a theoretical peak performance of 393 GFLOPS in docked mode and 236 GFLOPS in handheld mode.

PS4 was 800 mhz.

Is there any other game that currently runs on 8K/60 on consoles?

If not, doesn't that fact alone make this game special?

Yes, by definition it's special. It's the only 8k/60 console game. But that is the only reason it's special. The game has been out on ages for PC and other consoles and no one talked about it.

The PS4/PS5 announcement thread had 49 posts. The Switch announcement thread had 6 posts (lol). And the Xbox indie showcase thread which included this title had a whopping 55 posts. But here we are in this thread approaching 900 posts. Hmm....makes you think.

The fact that it is 8K is notable. What is keeping this thread going is people's incapability of accepting what the developers said about their own game engine. This thread should have died a long time ago.

I for one played this on my Series S and I’m glad it’s getting some visibility. Game’s super charming and funny. It looks great and some of the “dungeon” puzzles are quite clever. No need to hate on the game because it’s being used for console wars. There are worst games than this being used for the same purpose - by a long shot.
