Less than I would have expected given the universal praise for the series. I guess this is why we're going to see cross-gen for a while.
It is in line with the series sales to be fair.
Bloodborne did a bit better with a bigger userbase (it sold 2 million when PS4 had over 20 million userbase).
Original Demon's Souls took years to break 1 million.

it's a very niche genre ...well 1 .4m isn't setting the world on fire if you think that there aren't many next gen games yet and the PS5 has sold over 10 million consoles ....but i think they get money back for a remake

Pretty good given the circumstances... They will prolly move a lot more units if they release it on PC down the line =)

Not bad for a launch title.
It will certainly sell a lot more if it goes for a deep sale (i am still waiting for one)

Ask me about my Stream Deck
Have say that's really impressive.

Wonder if we will see a PS4 version at some point.

No doubt, just like Bloodborne would. Sony sitting on these two games could release them on PC (and PS5 in Bloodbornes case) and recoup all costs for an eventual port within a matter of days if not hours.

These types of games will never be giant sellers. Although somehow Dark Souls 3 sold 10 million. But the older games didn't come close.

Similar to Bloodborne, these games are more niche hardcore games, so you'll get core gamers talking about it, but mainstream gamers dont know or care about it. You'll see more people talk about Demon's Souls or Dark Soul or Bloodborne on forums than GTA5 or Minecraft or FIFA on forums. Even if you combined FROM threads, an annual FIFA game sells more and nobody talks about it.

DS games remind of Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil. Every time there's a thread about what sequel people are begging for Psychonauts is always mentioned. It came out and got great reviews. I'm curious to see what kind of sales it's done.

Same goes for BG&E. If that sequel ever comes out, I'm interested to know the sales count because that game even gets more begging for a sequel than Ive ever seen in gaming. But wouldnt be surprised if a sequel comes out and barely sells.

Souls games ain't know for being ultra blockbusters. They all have a specific target in mind, meaning they are not for everyone. That still don't stop them from being universally acclaimed from people who played, those are quality games.

Very good for a $70 remake of a hardcore game on a limited install base of around 11 million.

The game will keep on selling as more people buy PS5s and during sales .

As the sole premiere first party launch title (and for the following 8-10 months), and still one of the only ground up next gen showpieces, I have to imagine Sony was expecting around 1 million units basically on launch day. While I'm sure they're happy they're not bleeding money on an abject bomba, they can't be thrilled with 1.4 million in a year. If it's not well below their expectation, it has to be just barely hitting their most pessimistic worst case forecast.

Yes, and due to its poor sales and their disappointment they went ahead and bought the studio. Of course.

I don’t think that impressive as a launch title. Considering the only other exclusive game worth a damn was R&C that came out months later.
However Sony was happy, they bought them

A very 🤡 take if there was one.

1.4 million on 10 million consoles it's over 1/10 players buying it.
Yeap if we take attach rate only Demon’s Souls (PS5) did better than Bloodborne.

It can surpass Bloodborne in long run sales due new PS5 owners buying it… plus bundles… but it is not set on stones.

The good think is that it did so much better than Demon’s Souls original… a game that a lot of gamers wanted to play but could not buy it (Altus printed only 900k copies in US that make the used copy market to sell it at way over $90 after the word of mouth success).

I’m very happy these that did not have the chance to enjoy the original can play this gem now.

Lol 1 million on launch day? I doubt Sony even went that high with their optimistic expectations

Not bad for a "semi-niche" title on a new System.
Now we wait for the PS4 and PC versions to unleash its sales potential.

Pretty nice sales, hopefully the return on investment was good for them. I think Demon's Souls will have some long legs too as more people get PS5s. Also, rumored PC version would give it a nice 600-800k boost in sales pretty fast, I would assume.

I'm not crazy about the art style and environmental changes that Bluepoint made, but you can't argue that visual quality and fidelity is through the roof.
