Fun fact: If you lined up 1 million PS5s end to end, you'd have a line one million PS5s long.
also stretches to pluto and back twice.

sony certainly seems to be shipping heavily to the UK, ps4 sold like what 7-8 million lifetime in the UK, france and germany seem to have ended up at a similar count of ps4s over the consoles lifetime but have received a fraction of the console since launch
I assume sony is trying to quash any chance the xbox has of gaining momentum in the UK since xbox has in the past, once the ps5/xsx pass the dedicated adopter phase sony wants the casual fifa/gta/cod buyers to know their friends are playing on PlayStation and not Xbox

And seems like a good strategy. Most western EU countries are dominated by PlayStation. Those customers are so deep in the eco-system, most of them would rather wait and get a PS5 than buy an Xbox on a whim.

There are two big regions where Xbox compete (or competed) relatively well with PlayStation: North America and UK.

North America will still be a closer battle, but Sony has pretty much ensured that there won't be any stiff competition in the UK this generation.

Yeah Sony is prioritizing competitive markets like the US and UK, compared to others like JP and Spain.
Easily seen in the Numbers.

Sony flooding the UK with stock to secure the FIFA crowd. Very good strategy indeed.
Flooding mean 42/39 = 7% more compared to the PS4 when they probably based allocation on overall PS4 adoption and game sales. How about data driven allocation instead of some bullshit exaggeration? Or is it just more PS5s total than PS4's which was what Sony said was true.

The last data I can find is when they hit 10 million, which was ahead of PS4 by approximately 8% in July. That is inline with the UK numbers. Why are people claiming it is behind PS4 3 months later?

Yep. Countries like Spain are Sony land so more likely to wait more to get a PS5 without even considering to get an Xbox than other countries where Xbox traditionally had a better market share.

So it's smarter to prioritize these other countries to make sure PS5 also clearly dominates them and later once they have enough units then fee the sonyer countries where they always will have an insane market share.

Think they might be referring to Japan but not 100% sure
No. WW total
PS5 is selling faster than PS4 (and any other console ever released) worldwide, and if they achieve their FY goal they will be doing it at that point.

Due to the chips shortage the difference is small, so at some points it may be temporally a bit behind, but that would be highly compensated once they get rid of the chip shortage issues.

Maybe in some non-relevant/representative of the global trend country PS5 is behind PS4 for the same reason. But seeing new shipments getting sold out in a few minutes worldwide, we know it isn't due to demand.

Theres only one r2 trigger on a controller
I can already feel mine breaking again and Sony has not even replaced it yet (have hard time contradicting l contacting super).
But there is also l2. But it's less used so like 1 mil for l2 and 2 mil for r2 :p

PS5 is selling faster than PS4 ww although total shipments at the end of June were slightly behind.
It has sold ww 10m to consumers faster than PS4.
We'll see what happens with total shipments until the end of September (numbers will be reported at the end of October).
But they have already claimed to have secured the components to at least match the PS4 shipments for the FY (14.8m).
So the realistic scenario is that eventual differences will be really small (+ or - 500k compared to PS4).
Next year should be huge since they're targeting their biggest year ever.

Because PS4 shipped 10.4m with PS5 only reaching 10.1 at the end of June.

And at the end of September PS4 shipped 13.8m units and PS5 will miss that figure by half a million or more.

Sony has a lot of catch up to do, if they want to reach their forecast and beat the fist FY PS4 sales. But they might make in 2022. Because PS4 did only 2.3m in that quarter.
But until Q1 2022, PS5 is behind PS4

3 weeks faster than PS4 thanks to a lot of new consoles in July and August, after slower April, May and June.

September is slower again, as supply is drying up across all of Europe.

Road to 1M :
Wii 38 weeks
PS5 39 weeks
PS4 42 weeks
Nintendo DS 45 weeks
PS3 46 weeks
PS2 50 weeks
XB1 52 weeks
X360 60 weeks

Just wait for production to go down again after china put a hold on the industry for one week.

PS5 shipped a bit less units than PS4 in these same amount of quarters, but PS5 sold these units faster than PS4 and reached the 10M sold before than PS4. So in units sold to consumers PS5 isn't behind PS4. It's the fastest selling console ever.

And PS5 didn't sell way more due to the chips shortage and new shipments keep selling out in a few minutes, so once they get enough units sales will skyrocket. And if it happens next year with exclusives like GoWR, GT7 or Horizon 2 getting released, even more.

Due to in which part of the year they were released, temporally Switch will be ahead of PS5 launch aligned for a quarter or two, but very likely Sony will achieve their FY goal since they secured the components needed. Which means that once they release the sales/shipment numbers until the end of March 2022, PS5 will be back as the fastest selling console ever.
