What do you think about pre-ordering? I just caved in and pre-ordered for the first time

It is that much I wait for this game (Forza Horizon 5)- it is destined to be a hit.

What do you think in general about pre-ordering? I was always against it, simply there was no real incentive or reason to buy a game before it is out, until yesterday...

That's the only title/franchise I've ever pre-ordered to be honest since FH3. I got the Premium Edition of Forza Horizon 5 pre-ordered, game will be amazing!

if you're going to buy it day one anyway, why not I guess

I rarely pay full price for games anymore. Just can't justify the added cost when it'll be half off in a few months. But every once in a while I still make day one purchases, and in that case it's nice to have it pre-loaded or to get pre-order bonuses if they're offered

I was thinking about premium edition also, but then I realized how much content standard FH4 had (more than I can handle) and decided to just go with standard.

Nah, just consoles normally.

I ‘pre-ordered’ Monster Hunter Rise but only because it was £32, came with a steelbook and keyrings.

Unless it's a game you know you're going to buy anyways and pre-ordering gives a a discount on price there's no point whatsoever. I don't care about being able to play it moment of release. I usually wait until release day, see how it's being received critically and then bite.

I stopped preordering a while ago. I think the first thing I ever preordered was Halo 2 Limited Edition back in 2004. Damn that was worth it. I wait til reviews and videos are out before buying.

Anyway, I think you did fine. Forza Horizon 5 has a pretty high chance of being a solid hit

Yes the games are loaded with stuff! But I always try to collect all the cars (a meta game in itself by dealing through the auction house) and I figured since I bought all the DLC they put out for the first and second game that it's better to buy the Premium, also I love the four days or so early acces. Forgot to add, I got the game through redeeming MS Rewards for a 100 dollars giftcard so it was essentially free anyways for me.

I did it a few times for physical special editions I wanted at the time

My first (and only) digital pre-order was Kena. I ended up not being able to play until like 5 days after launch so it was pretty much a useless pre-order in the end

First game I pre-ordered was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, last game was Cyberpunk CE.
I think preordering for Limited Editions ist fine, but I don't get digital preorders (except for if you want to preload the game) or preorders of the standard retail version.

BAck in the day when you had to battle for limited store stock and got things like a gold colored Zelda oot cart. Yes preordering had its place back then.

but today now that everything is digital and there are no LE editions that come with any physical objects worth while… preordering just doesn’t make any sense.

Only special editions and import titles - don't see the point with a standard digital release.

I also ordered my first product from LRG earlier this year. I expect to receive it some time around 2027.

Not worth it as the incentives for digital pre-orders it is not worth the risk. The risk is that you can end up with a horrible game you can’t return because of platform holders awful return policy. Physical pre-orders make more since as you have something you can sell.

I used to pre-order almost every game I wanted to play, especially MP titles with the crew, but that was looong time ago where games weren't as expensive and as broken at launch as they are nowadays, and there were demos/open betas to try out the games first. Nowadays pre-ordering mostly means blindly going all-in hoping/praying the game works just fine, and that it's actually good since you don't get to try it out before buying and the marketing materials barely show the actual gameplay. So nowadays I buy games during the first week at earliest, when the reviews and user opinions are already out, so I have a confirmation whether everything fine with the game or if it's better to wait because a game needs patching or additional content/features.

If you 90% sure about game's quality, then why not. Nioh, for example, had 3 huge beta and demo versions, with each having hours of gameplay. Pre-ordered that to continue playing the instant it released.

I know what I like, and I invest a lot of time into fewer titles, so I pre-loading makes sense for me. I want to support the developers that I like. And don't waste my money on what other people like. I have only been burned on a few titles, so not a big deal to me. Probably the last one was For Honor.

Pre-ordering Halo Infinite for example was a no brainer.

I’ve rarely done it. I don’t have a strong option on others doing what they want with their own money, but I’ll tread much more carefully after Cyberpunk. That was a debacle. I have played that game once on PS4 Pro at launch. Then I told myself I’d wait for the patches. Then the PS5 version, now I’ve lost interest and will likely never play it. I should have got that refund.

I only preorder stuff mainly when ordering from japan as quite a few times with switch games especially they can easily sell out of their inital batch then when they do the resellers step in & fuck up the price till amazon reorder and get more stock in several weeks later. For limited editions i really want i always preorder for the same reasons, the marketplace sellers love to add zeroes onto the price. Here in the UK unless it's something that's gonna be scalp target i don't bother.

For digital stuff LOL fuck no i barely buy digital as it is but there's zero reason to preorder on something digital as it's unlimited in supply.

Id do it for any game I planned to buy day one regardless of reviews. I’m gunna get Harry Potter day one no matter what, for example

What I don’t understand are the people paying $15 a month for GamePass, then paying full price for the games that are on GamePass day one and then preaching what a great value GamePass is.

If it was a third-party game that would be eventually taken off, I'd kind of understand it. But a first-party game that will always be there? And you're still buying it digitally? I dont get it.

Why did you preorder when it's literally a day 1 GP release. That's madness.

I only preorder if it’s a game I know I’m gonna get day one and it has some neat bonus that it comes with/discount at a particular store.

A good example is Killer is Dead you got basically a collectors edition at normal price ($60) for preordering

Dark Souls 2 preorder on 360 came with a bitchin Steelbook and soundtrack that I still use for the Xbone version.

yes…. As a primarily PlayStation based gamer I don’t know the ecosystem but is this not on game pass and in owning an Xbox pretty much inherently means you have gamepass or is that not the case?

Preordering digital games seems a bit daft to me as someone that will only preorder physical niche releases, but I suppose having the game downloaded and ready to go beforehand for launch day is a nice bonus.

I only pre-order if I plan to play a new game at midnight which is rare.

In most cases its worth it to wait and see the reviews and feedback on the game before you buy it.

No risk on Xbox at least. Can refund for any/no reason.
