The Last of Us Day (Outbreak Day)

It will sell as much as the original TLOU. That’s the guess I just pulled out of my ass.
Then I hope we get an update soon because by August of the following year, TLOU1 had its sales update and continued to have periodic ones following that.

Joel dodges the final golf club swing like Max Payne, lights up a cigarette and says "you should have used a driver" before going super saiyan and revealing "this isn't even my final form"
Joel whistles into his horn, which already lay next to his bed on the nightstand in TLOU1, and directly trumpets sound and the sky opens. Blinded by the sun's rays, Abby and her crew look up and try to identify the approaching black dot. But before they can spot the beast called Pegasus, their bodies shred to the deafening clang of two Chaos Blades.
Joel: "Kratos, you son of a bitch!"

I was almost right. Merch ... as always.

Man, get the fuck out of here with that shit. Homeware? I get that there is a small set of fans that might buy shit like this, but it’s lame. It’s a video game developer. Tease ‘Factions‘ for fucks sake. Not some Abbey tshirt that NO TRUE FAN would wear.

Why are they implying that there is a timeline for when the battle royale takes place? Will it be set in
LA
or the
scar village
? Those were some boring locations so I hope not.

... wait, did they actually hype this?
Nah, Naughty Dog themselves didn't hype it at all. Just silently posted it today like "here ya go more merch"

People on here for some reason thought they'd announce a new game or whatever.

Check the OP. Was pure GAF speculation.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for the info.

Yea I made this topic in hopes of getting other peoples expectations for The Last of Us Day. Seems like the majority of us aren't expecting much...maybe more merch and possibly some small game update

Day never. Start making a new game already ND.

First off, day 1.

Second off, the other half of ND has been working on a new IP for years now and even the half that made The Last Of Us 2 are likely not 100% all working on DLC and MP.

Unlikely.

They are likely working on the engine stuff for Part 3.

TLOU Outbreak Day isn’t a really huge thing usually, or am I wrong? I quickly check it every year but I just cannot recall a single ‘’big’’ (actual game-related) announcement coming out of it

New merch and shit, I could believe it
Official reveal of ‘’Factions 2’’ now that we just had a bigger Sony show weeks ago, that I do not buy into. Don’t think sony would pass on that for something like TLOU Outbreak Day

If anything, we’d get a teaser of a teaser of the hbo show, and even that seems very unlikely
I’m on the fence about a ps5 upgrade version of TLOU2

But it’ll probably just be more merch like new backpacks and stuff

We’ll see

TLOU Part 2 Cry Babies Cut:

Joel dodges the final golf club swing like Max Payne, lights up a cigarette and says "you should have used a driver" before going super saiyan and revealing "this isn't even my final form"
I'd pay for this

TLOU Outbreak Day isn’t a really huge thing usually, or am I wrong?
True, the other years they mostly shown new merch, fanart and some screnshots contest activity or something like that, so this is what we could realistically expect.

But this year there is a difference: the timing of the event. All the other years they had nothing important to show or announce other than the TLOU2 announcement, which being a big deal of announcement it had to be announced instead in a more mainstream, big event.

This is different, because they have a series of small tier announcements or stuff to show maybe not big enough to appear in top tier events but that their fans would like to get, and that pretty likely could be announced soonish:
-First trailer, teaser or photos of the TLOU TV series
-The MP game that started as the TLOU2 MP game mode
-TLOU2 PS5 version
-TLOU1 remake (PS5+PC?)
-TLOU2 Director's Cut (bundle of some of the stuff mentioned above?)

Oh shit! A battle royale in TLOU universe would be great! And make so much sense as to why it took so long for them to reveal it
It's fake. Druckmann said they weren't going to release DLC for it. He also said that its MP game mode went crazy in terms of scope/scale and they prefered to move it to a standalone game.

Correct.

It's just celebrating the fans/merch/artwork/contests etc.

Anyone that thinks they'd do a big reveal on a Sunday of all days is kidding themselves.

Hi all,

When the team sat down to discuss what we’d be doing for The Last of Us Day this year, the thoughts were along the lines of, “It’s been a year already?!” After that initial shock, the immediate want was to sit down and address you, our community, directly.

Years ago, the love and diversity that The Last of Us showcased caught my attention as a fan and re-shaped the lens with which I viewed gaming. For the first time, I could see myself reflected in characters that weren’t tokenized, marginalized, or tossed in as an afterthought. As Joel and Ellie’s story unfolded, there were tears on my end; yes, the narrative is gorgeous and heart wrenching, but there’s also something deeply moving and validating about finally seeing meaningful representation in this medium. I know I’m not alone in that sentiment. If I’m being honest, I think that’s why this franchise is loved so fiercely among you, our community; there's a little bit of all us parsed out in The Last of Us. It’s special and something we hold with great care; we at the studio are all humbled by that trust and love.

In June of 2020 we expanded the world of The Last of Us with a new storyline, a project that was years in the making. The Last of Us Part II is now the most awarded game of all time -- an accomplishment of which we are continually proud and understand is due in large part to the incredible fan base we have. We are continually in awe of the support you provide and please know that our team reads the fan letters, marvels over the art you make, and is moved by the heart you all bring to re-creating a slice of The Last of Us in your own world.

The Last of Us Day is also a chance to thank our incredible team inside the studio who trusted the vision and heart of this franchise and saw it through to fruition - you’re the best and the ripple effect of your efforts are leaving lasting marks around the world.

“Yeah, that’s lovely and great Naughty Dog, but what are you doing with The Last of Us right now?”

In short, we’re working on it - we see the community comments as many of you clamor for multiplayer and want updates. For now, we’ll say that we love what the team is developing and want to give them time to build out their ambitious project, we’ll reveal more when it’s ready! To that end, we’ve been busy growing our team inside the kennel since The Last of Us Part II launched and are currently in full swing of hiring for MP-related positions (hint hint), so if you or somebody you know qualifies for anything you see on our jobs page, apply!

In the meantime, another The Last of Us Day comes to a close. We hope you’ve had as much fun with us today as we have putting it together and we will be watching closely for all the epic photos, art and stories you send our way.

In appreciation,

Rochelle & Naughty Dog

Excited about Sackboy DLC. Its actually a good game. I've played every iteration of LBP including Vita and Karting with my kids

It might sound crazy but it's gorgeous graphically on PS5. I've seen videos and they don't do it justice unless you find a 4K to download.

I feel like they lied in 2019 when they said they were already working on multiplayer. Don't get how it takes over two years to reveal anything about a mode that's been tacked on in the best.
very true

they dropped TLOU1 in 2013 with full MP

TLOU2 dropped years ago with no MP at all. Terrible project and time management all around. The fact that we don’t have any idea what’s going on is bullshit. And of course they’ll blame the covid lockdowns as an excuse

I cant tell if this is sarcasm or not but TLOU PTII is barely a year old

The TLOU2 multiplayer was probably just scrapped (to be rebooted from scratch). And clearly they stopped working on it for a while to get the singleplayer game done and shipped. They knew they only needed the singleplayer to sell the game and win awards etc. (Same as GoW, HZD, etc.) And by now, they probably want to create a $70 multiplayer game that will last years. Its probably taking them time to try to make something different and bigger than just the PvP they've done before. I'd expect something more like Destiny or GTA Online, not just more TLOU Factions 4v4 TDM PvP. Its gonna be a live service ongoing game. Probably will even have some PvE modes too. Perhaps even PvPvE.

It's not tacked on this time. It'll be their most ambitious multiplayer game they ever made.

When Blizzard was in their prime they always took 5+ years to make their multiplayer games, so don't assume multiplayer = shorter dev time than single player.

It better not be tacked on dude.

The reality is EVERYONE was expecting factions to launch with tlou2 (like for the first one) until Sept 2019 came out in Sept 2019 and Neil and some other nd dev said there is no multiplayer.

Then, hours after outrage, naughty dog announced in a press release that they are indeed working on a standalone project.

Then now, they said they're still working on it and keep telling us to be patient since it's so big and ambitious.

Chances are, they weren't working on jack shit in 2019 and lied to calm people down. It is unrealistic for TWO YEARS LATER for them to have NOTHING to show. Quite frankly it's a joke.

So if it truly is so ambitious that it needs to be standalone and make us cough up more money for something that should've launched with the game, then it better BE MORE than the first game's admittedly tacked on mode. Likely, it will have a big battle royale mode in addition to the standard stuff as tlou already has many systems in place (crafting, inventory mgmt, transportation ((horse, boat)), ropes, scavenging loot, etc) that could fit well into a battle royale. Which would be satisfactory, but why take so long to reveal anything about it? The longer they make people wait the more they lose interest.
