Didn't Insomniac know before the buy out they were basically going to be the Spiderman factory?
They have 3 teams they'll be able to do Spider-man or a different superhero, Ratchet and Clank and new IPs

I personally think it is, because I really can’t stand anything Spider-Man, but in reality what they are doing is successful and most fans like it I would say.

From what I know Insomniac have white card to choose the superhero.

IMO they did a great job with their Superhero games something you don’t see from others developers.

Ehh. I would say that Insomniac wants to do Wolverine and they are not forced to make it.

On the other hand. I'm not interested at all in Wolverine because it is superhero game.

So, in my opinion yes. They are wasted. But they choosed to be wasted. But only for me and people who are tired of superhero games. For others it is great news.

Has anyone stopped to wonder if they enjoy making them?

Because from what I recall they were pretty smitten when they were offered the opportunity to work on Spiderman.

So if they are happy making them and the results are positive (both critically and commercially) then who cares?

I think we can all agree that Insomniac is a very talented studio with extremelly few missteps in their entire carreer something that for a studio of such a long history is trully admirable.

However with Spiderman's and Miles Morales success it seems that Sony wants to make them a studio that is focused on Marvel IPs with the occassional R&C game here and there. Or maybe that was Insomniac's decision or something (which is the most likely scenario) that they both Sony and Insomniac gladly agreed. For fans of Marvel and superheros in general i think this is a great thing but for those of us who are not interested in superheros (or established IPs) it's really a shame that Insomniac will not have a chance to work on a completely new and fresh IP of their own.

Are you ok with Insomniac continue making R&C and superhero games or do you want to see them try their hands on a new IP of their own?
I voted yes because i was hoping that they were really doing a new resistance game, or even better a new IP (preferably on the same line as resistance _ a new Sci Fi shooter with multiplayer, i love them). I have nothing against spidy or the new wolverine game.... Just wanted my Sci Fi shooter fix first.

I don't think their talents are wasted.
To be honest, there are far too "few" great super hero video games - and their effort in Spider-Man, it was quite impressive.
I don't like western super heroes in general, but even so - I immensely enjoyed the Spider-Man on my PS4 Pro, which I got it at bargain price. (I think it was like 19.99)

I intend to do the same when Miles Morales is available at 9.99 or less, and upcoming Wolverine, if it gets good reviews.

Way too early to assume Insomniac is a Marvel machine now. Just because the next two games are Marvel? We just got a new Ratchet & Clank months ago. I think we will still see variety from the studio.

Yes. I remember DF saying the same, about Insomniac start to only make Marvel games, just like the Deus EX dev team just imprision of making the Guardian of the Galaxy games.

Insomniac used to make new IPs, take risk. As much I like Spider-Man, I want new IPs too.
New IP is an incredibly risky move nowadays due to the cost to the publisher as a whole if it fails (a aaa PS5 exclusive new IP would probably cost in the region of $200 million including marketing).

The alternative is either a sequel or reboot to a big established franchise like Uncharted, Halo, Gears, God of War or… a game using the Marvel license which is almost guaranteed to generate ~$400 million.

Indies will take care of AA style games using new IP like Kena so I’m not worried.

Here we go…….the next Sony installment of fanboyism. I can’t tell if this is an attack on Xbox and Nintendo game development. Or an attack on Sony but it’s getting worse each time. If anything the insomniac talent is being put to good use. Nothing to worry about.

They have only made two superheroes IP. One which we know nothing about yet. It's not like they've been making superhero games for many gens. They've also released Ratchet and Clank on PS5.

I wish there were more new IPs, but companies believe they are very risky to do now. The PS3 had many new IPs and I think Sony was leading in new ideas, but the industry is becoming more conservative in which projects to undertake.

Spider-Man is the only hero IP that isn’t shit since Rocksteadys Arkham so I don’t think it’s wasted.

I'd be more on board with them making a lot more super hero ip games if these games ended up culminating into a end game type scenario for the series. Just doing a character and moving on seems like a waste of the characters when they are connected in the comics and movies.

At the same time I don't want them only working on this, mabye have a separate team work on new games and sequels.

Their talent was wasted on building new IP. Only IP they've created out of the dozen or so was Ratchet and they still make those.

I enjoyed Spider-man a lot, whereas Rift Apart was super disappointing (and I say that as a big fan of previous Ratchets).

Right now, I like them focusing on superhero stuff for that reason, but I can't imagine how they're going to make a good game out of Wolverine.

To be fair, the superhero games that Insomniac are making are games that they've chosen to make.
As an independent company they had no obligation to make a Spider-Man game and Insomniac have said themselves that the Wolverine game was their choice and that they've been working with Marvel for years to see what game they would like to make and they wanted to make a Wolverine game.
I'm all for first party studios who have proven themselves being allowed to pursue their own interests to certain extent, of course it would have to make sense to Marvel and Sony too but fortunately all three were happy with what they wanted.
It's only been a few months since they released the decidedly non Marvel Ratchet & Clank and again, because they were successful with the project I'm pretty sure well get the follow up from them that they set up in that game.

Personally I have 0 interested in in “superhero” IPs, from Spider-Man, to the Avengers to Wolverine and haven’t and won’t play any of them. So is it wasted? In my eyes yes but that’s just me.

Yes, new Ips and new directions. Two things that can't happen with Superhero games. They have to be safe and as widely appealing as possible.

I absolutely despise capeshit, both in movies and games. To me, as long they they continue in this manner they might as well not exist because there is zero chance of them making anything I want to play.

Well, they're really churning out good quality games so it's hard to claim it's a waste. I personally was done with Spiderman games for a while with the ps4 game, so I'd like them to try something new.

Yeah. Not just that but it's time to give ratchet a break.

I know it's been a long time but playing spyro reignited reminded me how good that formula was and I wish insomniac would do something fresh again.

Insomniac has like 3 teams, so I'm sure they will still pump out Ratchet and Clank and possibly revisit their other IPs. The whole new IP although we love them are very risky in gaming right now because of the rising cost of developement. That is why we are seeing a bunch of remakes of older popular IPs right now, they are are safe and will sell off nostalgia. But. Marvel games coupled with Insomniac will produce a lot of money for Sony so they can take bigger risks on original IPs. But I agree to an extent, Insomniac shouldn't be the only devs making Marvel games. Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, and even Guerilla Games are all capable studios who can bring Marvel characters to life.

Wtf? If anything, superhero games are in line with their game design and approach for many years.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck a little that they'll likely be shy from original IP's, but I think they're right at home in terms of an IP in which that they can shove all their gaming experiences into.

Yes and no. On one hand, I'd rather they'd be making more creatively interesting stuff like Sunset Overdrive and Song of The Deep. On the other hand, stuff like Spiderman all but ensures they'll be well-funded for a long time.

To pigeonhole such a rich talent such as Insomniac is such a shame. Spider-Man and Wolverine are more than enough. I still want to see other games like Ratchet and Sunset Overdrive. There are enough PlayStation developers making third person action-adventure open world narrative games.

Report me if I continue to console war
The superhero genre is ripe for great story and gameplay possibilities, so its all good to me.

I hope they take there time with Spiderman and progress the open world genre. Its a pet peeve of mine when open world games feel like a giant movie set.

Odd question for me. They’ve just released a game that all other Spider-Man games will be compared against, all super hero games will be compared against and most AAA action third person open world games will be compared against for many years to come. Not sure what else they need to achieve to be considered as ‘not’ being wasted as a developer??

Considering the popularity of the character, I don’t think any other game they could have made - especially an original IP could have had the impact the Spider-Man games has had for them.

It mirrors Rocksteady’s rise to being considered one of the worlds top games dev studios. Bringing home the Arkham series had far more value than their own IP ever could!

Caveat aside that it is *possible* their own IP could have been as successful, but the data is heavily against that happening.

No, Spiderman was clearly one of their most passionate projects ever. What more could you want than a dev making something they want to?

And they are still making Ratchet games or that team could move onto something new next

I think it was superhero licences that were wasted on B tier/low budget devs...Except for spiderman and Batman since Arkham.Oh and that Wolverine game that was good too(not counting fighting games that are a bit special in that regard).

I never like to see any studio get pigeonholed into only one thing but that doesn't feel like the case with Insomniac.

Beyond that, I mean I absolutely love the Spider-Man games, so definitely not bummed for more of that.
