WTF Sony...

J/K lol. Surprised to see how damn fast they ended the SSD beta tests and made it public, good move. A year too late still, but better late than never. Next stop: VRR.

Is the 3D audio also making a difference for soundbar owners? Or is this solely focused on TV speakers?

Which one is it? I've been searching for a good one.

Also, why are people getting triggered from my post? How is it a bad thing that I have the same heatsink as Sony?

About time.

Also, PSA if you want an SSD with heatsink its probably a good idea to act fast. They sold out around the time off the beta for a short while. That said, attaching the heatsink was not hard, and can save you a couple bucks.

My guess is that the BETA didn't show major issues with it which is always a nice to hear.
I was a little concerned that Sony included hardware in the PS5 that they really couldn't confirm if it worked or not because the firmware wasn't ready at the time they shipped it. That always makes me a bit nervous, like what if they shipped 10 million units and then realized that the slot was a bad idea or didn't perform the same as the internal one?

I wonder if much has changed since the beta?

Wait, hang on. Are you thinking that they didn't know whether the M.2 expansion would work or not until the last beta? That's seriously what you're thinking?

That’s neat how it uses Dualsense to measure your room to do 3D audio on TV speakers

Nice updates here. The UI still feels a bit lonely to me, I guess I was one of the few who liked the social feed, even if not many people were manually posting on there it showed what everyone was up to. And I’d still really appreciate 1440p (and dare I ask, ultrawide) support. Kills me having an amazing PC monitor right next to it which it can’t use well.

I don't know how they would've tested it unless they had a form of this firmware way before launch and production. Instead they released a beta so that people could test the feature. That always makes me nervous. The slot should've worked from the beginning.

I think its because they weren’t really in a rush since there were so few drives on the market that met their specifications. Which is exactly what Cerny said would be the case back in March 2020.

So they must've tested it with their own drives and thus waited for the market to catch up a bit before unlocking the feature?

No idea, it just does. It adds more depth to the audio. It spaces out the sounds in the game better. You can here that things are coming from a different angle better. Not sure how to explain it.
Sounds like virtual surround sound? Must be a bit more advanced since you have to use a microphone. I had virtual surround a few decades ago on a prologic receiver. No microphone then, didn’t sound good.

You realise that you won't be downloading any new hardware tomorrow and that the beta download was to test new software?
It's a known entity what the hardware can do, M.2 specs are not a mystery to anybody and have been used across many different types of hardware.
A firmware release is just not related to being able to test a piece of hardware. Just because the comparability wasn't included in the firmware doesn't in any way suggest that it hasn't been available to them in some form however many months it's been. They aren't using proprietary storage and when the public has access to the firmware, the public will be connecting one of an ever expanding library of SSDs to the PS5.
What your saying makes absolutely no sense at all but people not understanding something isn't really an issue for me but it actually sounds like you've not thought through what you're and that is something that I have issues with.
Let's just hope that all the console makers guessed right for any upcoming games and/or accessories because they're clearly just guessing what will be compatible with their systems.
PSVR 2 will be very expensive if they guessed incorrectly, I mean it's not as if they have a finalised PSVR 2 headset and finished games to test on the system. Imagine they launched it and it wasn't compatible with the PS5 but only worked on Switch because Nintendo guessed correctly but they didn't.

Still don't understand why I can't just play any youtube video snapped to my screen, when the only ones I can are related to trophies or guilds only linked from the cards. It's daft.

The only thing i care about is having way faster copy for patches etc, right now is hilariously bad, this shit is supposed to be plug and play not plug and wait...

And fix the whole ps4\ps5 mess when a game is released in both platform and the console always try to download stuff for the ps4 version.

Hmm I'll have to find my Sabrent heatsink see if it fits the specs. If so I'll grab another one of their 2tb. The one in my PC is incredible, but I have a feeling it's too tall...

Well they'll probably never figure out how to get the "3D Audio" out of an AVR, as that's pretty complex shit.

Adding an EQ to 3D Audio won't improve the hollowness you get out of it though.

Congrats to the sad gamers that don't have AVRs and don't get true surround sound, it seems like a small number, seeing as you already bought a $500+ gaming console. I'm sure some people will get the use of it.

It's nice that they're using a microphone to get the acoustics of the room, but I'm not sure how good the Dual Sense microphone is, most AVRs give you a special mic that is specially designed for the task.
My guess is AVR support will be object based like Atmos w/LPCM as the underlying codec (as opposed to TrueHD) vs traditional 2-speaker 3D audio.

I haven’t tried it in the beta yet but I believe they improved the headset audio quality so it doesn’t sound as bad.

No list of confirmed compatible SSDs? How outrageous!

Nah, I don't actually care, but I know people have been wanting that.

The "3D audio from stereo speakers" thing is gonna be like the virtual surround many TVs do. I.e. pretty much shit. Sure, it can give the sound a bit more "depth" than regular stereo, but it will never sound like real surround/3D.

M.2 SSD out of beta and live for everyone officially, is great news.

Also, did they fix that party chat/group issue, where anyone (whom you haven't even met online in a game) can add you to a group and post spam messages like sexting, nudes, where it leads to phishing user info? This was happening a LOT on PSN sometime ago. What I mean is does PSN give you an option to block people from adding you to a group, without your consent aka asking your permission first? Most of these are done by bots.

It's like the android messaging app, whatsapp (used to have a consent/permission notif, but after the facebook buyout they removed it on grounds that they give you one final chance to either have it "ask first" or remove forever), where anyone on the app can add you w/o your consent to a group.

Secretly hoping this might, but probably won't, fix my share play issue.

Also hoping they added an option to disable "blocked scene for recording" pop ups

No mention of VRR or 1440p support, come on sony how hard is it for you to at least acknowledge it and say something like "hey you will indeed get that in a future update". Anyways that being said looking forward to this update!
Still waiting for an update to include 1440p 😐
1440p will never happen. Ever.
