I want to play the Souls games, but with a twist...

As someone who has been following the Souls games from the beginning (Demons Souls PS3) and has seen at least one lets play of each game from start to finish, I can say that the atmosphere of these games gets under my skin. I have become a fan of these created worlds, not at least because I am also a big fan of Berserk and the parallels are unmistakable.
With one game, Dark Souls 3, I dared to play the series and wanted to dive in myself, but after 60 hours I still haven't seen the credits, couldn't defeat the nameless king and didn't feel like working instead of playing this game anymore.
Right now, with the hype of Elden Ring, I'm indirectly hyped again, but at the same time I know I'll never play the game because the gameplay just isn't fun for me. I don't want to have to study a boss for hours to defeat him after dying 100 times, that gives me nothing.
I want the souls games as action-path-game.
I want to play from the beginning of the level to the boss, beat up grunts, soak up the atmosphere and depending on my gameplay and equipment I want to see a cutscene in MGS/DMC/Bayonetta/Vanquish style where the boss is killed, even like in the old God of War games with QTE's thrown in.
I don't need all that work to look at the dead bosses' body with satisfaction afterwards, I want to experience and discover the world.

From Soft, please give adventure-mode.

I'm not sure how it will work for Elden Ring, but if you play these during their launch year (and sometimes even later) they usually have an active online community.
Dark Souls has always had an easy mode, it's called summoning people. Every boss in the franchise becomes a joke with 2 phantoms (I think you can even summon 3 with an item).

Also the Nameless King is optional If I'm not mistaken.

I'd be lying if I said I defeated even one boss on my own. I summoned help from the beginning, but it didn't satisfy me neither. A big aspect of the souls games for me is also the feeling of isolation and the lonely fight against the world, where you don't understand everything except that somehow everything wants to kill you.

It's the game. These games will click and you will eventually realize they're actually not more difficult than most other games, but they just require a different approach.

Adding an easy mode to these games would be a massive mistake. I honestly believe if Demon's Souls and Dark Souls launched with an easy mode, there would be much fewer hardcore Souls fans today and the series never would have blown up like it did.

Nothing wrong with that! It is a legit game mechanic. And trust me when i say that it is incredibly fulfilling to help out friends. What i mean with that is that you need to call out people that you know. And if nobody in your acquaintance is playing these games then let NeoGaf help you. I slayed most bosses on my own but not everyone. Even i summoned help after countless tries. And after that i helped friends and colleagues to slay the prey. Don't hesitate to ask for help!

I want Elden Ring to be more RPG really . Dark souls 3 got cut down in RPG part so much that its like a adventure game .

I want set effect , item effect , upgradable armor . Diverse build . Lots of skill and ability .

I have played and finished DS1 and DS3. I kind of agree with you OP, the future From games need to become more easily approachable for the people who don't feel like working to finish them. In both games, around the 50 hour mark, I felt I was just about ready to be done with them, but there was still plenty of ways to go. At that point the games started to feel like chore. There was constantly too much of a push back and I felt like no matter how much I grind-ed or fine-tuned my build, there was no way for me to ease the burden. I enjoy so much about those games, but the amount of grunt work required differs wildly between different players and some people don't seem to get that.

Oh look. Yet another Souls easy mode begging thread.

Play the game as intended, or play something else. Easy.

Also OP… forget about Nameless King and get to the endgame.

If you have a hard time with a boss, use a summons. Nameless King is the hardest boss in the game aside from the dragon in the dlc.

There are trainers for invulnerability on PC but you want to play it completely offline or else you'll get banned/softbanned. Other than that, I'd suggest putting in the time to practice with the game. It's really not a difficult game once you stop looking at it as a DMC clone and look at it more as a game of...action chess? I feel the first game was way more lenient with playing the way you wanted to. DS3 pretty much makes rollspam the only good answer most of the time, which is unfortunate.

Anyways, I believe in you OP, you can do it.

But he does want an easy mode. But instead of searching out existing threads (of which there are many), we get yet another one about the same thing. No other game series or developer gets this much repeated criticism of its difficulty or play style.
Yes, yes and yes. You are right.

Usually i'm the one who's pointing out. :messenger_grinning:

Just tried to help him.

I kinda get your perspective, but these are RPGs in terms of progression. You shouldn’t have to be dying 100 times to figure out a boss. Learning the movements are important, but so is grinding souls to level your character. Build up some vitality and maybe you can tank a couple hits instead of having to memorize the moves perfectly.

When you say you didn’t feel like working instead of playing the game, are you talking about the grinding aspect? If so, the games may not be for you. I see them as similar to old rpgs like Final Fantasy. Sometimes if you are feeling underpowered you have to do a little grinding for stats and upgrading gear before you can move on.

I don’t have a problem with an optional adventure mode though for accessibility reasons, if that’s what Fromsoft decided to do.

The stuff I dislike about the bosses isn't that they're hard, but that after you die, you have to backtrack for 1-3 minutes to the boss arena again which are also often filled with tough unavoidable enemies you have to kill at least a few of. I wish they could make an exception to those bonfire checkpoint rules when you're dying to bosses and instead give you the option to be placed right next to the entrance.

It's called Youtube. But seriously, why don't you summon other random players to help you? It seems your problem is not only the boss fights

You only need to summon before the boss fight? You can enjoy your isolation through the world. Who knows, you might git gud...

I'm not a modder nor do I know if such mods exist. If so, I'd be glad to have some information about these.
Get the honest merchant and stock up on anything you desire: souls, embers, siegbraus, upgrade materials, weapons, bombs... It's 100% safe to use. The only possible danger might be if you don't own the dlc and you buy dlc gear. Don't do that if you don't have it.

Just follow the install instructions, launch the game and do the appropriate gesture while standing over the firelink shrine corpse by the tower next to the giant seed tree (with the locked door).

Thank me later.

Capra Demon cheese is still the funniest way to kill a boss.

That is probably true.
So, you basically want a dark fantasy game?
Yes. AFAIK there are not that many games out there which represent that genre in a way like Demon/Dark Souls does.
Skyrim? no
Witcher? no
And this is where my list already ends.
At that point the games started to feel like chore. There was constantly too much of a push back and I felt like no matter how much I grind-ed or fine-tuned my build, there was no way for me to ease the burden. Kind of this. Also I feel like even I beat a boss, I have no advantage for the rest of the game, because the game plans to make the next boss even harder and with completely different moves. I didn't gain any skills from the boss fight that I can use to advance. Killing grunts is actually fun, they repeat, I get better, they become easier prey. Bosses are one time fights I have no ambition to repeat to master.

I guess you're right. That's what I would say to people mocking about my game as well.

Thanks, maybe DS3 wasn't a good start for the series then. Maybe Elden Ring has a different approach, because it's actually not a "real" Souls and is allowed to change things fans insist on in a Dark Souls.
But he does want an easy mode. But instead of searching out existing threads (of which there are many), we get yet another one about the same thing. No other game series or developer gets this much repeated criticism of its difficulty or play style.
This is not surprising when the level of difficulty is the unique selling point of the series. Hardcore fans feel elitist compared to those who want to play the game but can't get into it. I can understand that the game would break with its principles with an easy mode and many would be disappointed.
I don't find it too difficult per sé, as I said, I enjoy the levels, the beautiful artstyle, the level- and chracterdesign, but not the bosses (and the invasions).
But any mod reading this, feel free to close this thread if there are too many whiney threads about this topic.
When you say you didn’t feel like working instead of playing the game, are you talking about the grinding aspect?
Not really the grinding aspect. Like I said before, I like the fights during the level.
But as I said, I don't like that every boss is designed to just fuck you into the ground. once you beat one, you know there's only the next one waiting to destroy you with completely new movesets and tactics.
I like challenges as long as I feel like it's fair and you could have done it the first time if you were prepared or if you got some expertise while playing.
For example, I played through Ghost of Tsushima on hard, and there was one or two duels that I had to repeat dozens of times, but I knew every time that I could have done it if I had just blocked or attacked at such and such a time. I don't get that feeling with souls games.
I generally play games on hard rather than normal or even easy, and I always do pretty well. I just remembered that I once opened a similar thread on another game where I felt the same way - said thread

The stuff I dislike about the bosses isn't that they're hard, but that after you die, you have to backtrack for 1-3 minutes to the boss arena again which are also often filled with tough unavoidable enemies you have to kill at least a few of. I understand that it's done the way it's done. You're supposed to realize that there's something at stake, that you can lose time and souls if you screw up. but for me, it's frustrating at some point.
Thank me later.
Maybe I'll try it sometime, but to be honest, I didn't play the game in a long time and just opened this thread in accordance with Elden Ring

Yeah, I loved the atmosphere of bloodborne and this elden ring game but I'm skipping elden ring if it doesn't have some type of easy mode. The idea of cutscenes for boss's sound good as well. I think what needs to be done is some other developer needs to steal the lead artist for these games.

I'm not good at gaming as I'm over 40 now and don't get as much time as I'd like but I've recently finished all the from software games and and only found myself struggling for maximum 2 days on any one boss.

I believe the saying "Git good" is relevant and once good then you kind of wish the games were more difficult so you'd still be playing them.

they arent even that hard , the difficulty of these games has been exaggerated

my mates brother is 50, never played a game in his life and started with sekiro, he ended up beating it something like 5-6 times in a row and now hes playing bloodborne

I just completed Dark Souls 1 recently which is so far the easiest in the series. Maybe try start there to get a feel of how to play?

okay, let me try throwing some things out here and see if something sticks for you:

These two i've played personally so i can tell they aren't overly hard (though they do have options for harder difficulties), and much like Dark Soul focus on gameplay, have RPG elements and a grimdark setting with a decent level of exploration. However, as you see, one is in first person and the other is isometric, though i don't know if you specifically wanted the game to be third person. I'm also not reallly sure whats the way demon/dark souls does it.
Even aside from those, theres still quite a bunch you could try looking into.

I’m the opposite. NG is not impossible. I could see someone arguing NG+ or NG++, but for the most part NG is doable. I also loved Dark Souls III. I have finished it 5-6 times now. You can make it to where you gain 1-3 levels in under 8 minutes. I like the boss designs, the art of the world, and the final fight was really good in DS3. A big thing for me was trying new weapons and dodging at the right time. If you make a random dodge you can get killed almost instantly. Boss fights get better if you become a lot more conservative with your moves. It’s like parrying in Bloodborne. I could get one or two shotted by the final boss of the DLC, but you can parry him. The fight feels a whole lot different once you take control of the situation.

Thats completely lame if you can’t play them properly then play something else the games clearly not for you.
