I just realized Thor is being played by BETA from The Walking Dead and got instantly more hyped for his portrayal as Thor in this.

Hes fucking perfect, was a complete badass in TDW.

Game looks absolutely beautiful, with some of the best animation out there. PS5 will be a glorious 60fps, what more do you want?
Who gives a crap about 60 FPS nonsense when the game looks like a PS4 Pro game? I cannot deal with you framerate nerds lool...
I can't get behind the fact that horizon 2 looks better and it's a freaking open world game with far more shit on screen.

Guerrilla surpassing santa monica in that graphical sony studios gerarchy, they were close but for now guerrilla has the edge imo.
I keep saying this. Theres levels. ND keeps raising the bar, other studios try to catch up, some get close, others get left in the dust.

SSM has a lot of catching up to do now. Suddenly.

Glad to have finally seen it in action.

I must admit that while it looks polished, it looks very familiar and its design shows strong ties to the PS4 release. Things such as level scale, density and enemy numbers.
Also, in hindsight, Horizon FW while carrying the same legacy, looks more impressive for a PS5 title; when compared its predecessor.

I have a sneaking suspicion that whatever Cory is directing, is a PS5 ground-up exclusive GoW title.

I believe Cory is working on a new IP.

Bit surprised people are reacting like that to Thor. Thor is less to do with making a statement and more just a depiction on the thunder god who was obsessed with mead, women and being a slob. I don't ever recall Norse gods being described as gigachads.

Whatever your choice of combat strategy, the enemies that await in God of War Ragnarök will be ready. The realms have grown harsher, and a whole host of new creatures from across Norse mythology will test your skills. From the trailer you can see what happens when Kratos finds himself under the hooves of the Stalker or grabbed between the jaws of a Dreki, and that’s just the beginning.

With an expanded cast of adversaries, we aim to keep each combat encounter memorable from the smallest brawls to the big show-stopper bosses! We can’t wait to show you more as we get closer to release.
Fans who played the last game know they were able to visit six of the Nine Realms during their journey. In God of War Ragnarök, you will be able to visit all nine!

God of War Ragnarök will take you to the previously unreachable Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard – as well as to new areas from locations featured in the last game. Exploring the realms will take you everywhere from verdant, otherworldly jungles to intricate subterranean mining networks.

This next installment in the series will bring you a more diverse, beautiful, and mysterious variety of locations than in any other God of War game.

So are we thinking of a April release date for God of war 2?
Horizon releases February 18th and Gran Turismo 7 releases March 4th, Forspoken in Spring. Seems we won't get an Insomniac game for 2022 and seems the next ND stuff will be TLOU2 PS5+TLOU1 Remake+TLOU2 MP game in addition to U4 remasters so a lot of ND 2022 stuff but nothing spectacular.

So I think instead of packing their big exclusive bombs for that year I think they will separate GoW a bit more, so probably will release it in June just before E3 as Ratchet did this year, to make sure people has in their mind during the event that Sony makes great exclusives.

They moved the head honcho on combat? So combat will suck now. Shit. Let's hope he can direct.
I assume it will be the opposite, he will now focus more on having a good combat and now that he's the alpha male nobody will block his decisions or would want to focus more instead on other stuff.

Well, getting left in the dust is a bit exagerated, it's not like ragnarock looks like dog poop, it still looks better than a lot of games.

I wanna see both games live on my tv before the final judgement but for now it looks like guerrila is a bit better.

I had the same exchange with another member already, usually the first trailer sets the tone for the graphic level, i don't expect huge improvements for this one, especially for the crossgen nature of it.

But yeah, time will tell, for now i can only judge what i have under my eyes.
FH5 is crossgen. That hasn't stopped it looking fantastic? Same with H2FW.
Wait for it's own state of play and the latest build.

Yeah but those looked far more impressive from the get go\first trailer.

And it's not like gow looks in the early stage of developments, that was not a vertical slice like the first gameplay trailer for the first game, but more of an overview trailer, they showed a lot of things and it all looked semi-definitive, i really don't think that you are gonna see big changes dude, i prefer to remain realistic so if they manage a miracle, i'm gonna be even more impressed.

At least we can be happy that they didn't show an unrealistic bullshit trailer like ubisoft or cd project.

Santa Monica should never be out here getting bested graphically by some random Square Enix studio.

Yet...

You know what, horizon 2 looks better than this one too...

It's hard to quantify by how much this one looks better than gow, it looks more barren and with far less world geometry compared to ragnarock, but it also look somehow more "nextgen" for lack of better words?!
But i really can't pin point in what aspect...maybe the lights? my brain is pretty shit at recognizing good lighting systems...maybe the effects like fire etc.?

I watched again the trailer at proper 4K and I must say I'm a lot more impressed than yesterday. Today, without the hype I saw a good looking game that I want to play.

My main concern are no longer the next gen graphics but the absence of Cory Barlog.

no worries, this is the tradition at SMS. Each god of war has a different director

GOW : david jaffe
GOW II : cory barlog
GOW III : stig asmussen

Come on guys, let's be serious.

Any of the GoW screens obliterate Astia. Very rough sometimes and quite empty. Except drawing distance Atia is quite last gen for me. Any asset used in GoW obliterate Astia, and any screen feels so lively and polished...

GoW even crossgen is a league above from a visual and production stand point.

I am actually very disappointed by Forspoken. As a fan of FF15, I expected that team to do much more with next gen. That draw distance looks really bad. No foliage to speak of, just a bland green texture. This feels like a cross gen game that was made next gen at the last moment.

I think it looks great and I'm stoked to see where the story goes.

If this is the final one for Asgard does that mean we're going to another plane of existence or is the story wrapping up?

Maybe that rumored 40 hour length is legit.

The live stream did this trailer little justice, rewatching this in the 4K stream and it looks beautiful.

Being a cross-gen title, the developers have done an excellent job in scaling this to the PS5, higher polygon models, higher LOD draw distance and what really stood out to me was the ultra high resolution textures throughout the trailer (and in the image above) which were really eye melting.

It actually reminded me of a comment from a Sony Santa Monica VFX specialist who stated a few weeks ago on the MLiD podcast that where leveraging the PS5's SSD to stream 4K textures and visual effects on the fly in and out of RAM.

You are right, this image looks good with very high textures quality. Would be good if we could compare with PS4 version, one day for sure!

Because 60FPS actually effects gameplay more than shiny graphics does and at end of the day we play the games more than counting pixels.
No it doesn't, fidelity is more important than framerate.
Thats why graphics have always been a much bigger selling point than framerate throughout the mediums history. Only internet nerds give a damn about framerate over graphics. that is a FACTTT
