Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic Remake Revealed

You're concern trolling.

Sam Maggs is not even listed as a Senior Writer or Lead Writer at Aspyr. She's not "writing the game", in the sense that she's leading in any creative capacity.

All writers listed in Linkedin at Aspyr are:
  • Courtney Woods - Lead Writer
  • Jessica (Jessica Ilko) Sliwinski - Senior Writer
  • Jordan Lemos - Senior Writer
  • Nicole Stanford - Game Writer
  • Sam Maggs - Writer
So given there are three or four more senior people than her on the writing team, I don't think any of the fearmongering and concern trolling is at all warranted.

I'm afraid that list doesn't make me any feel better about the game at all. A lot of them worked on Anthem, Andromeda and Inquisition. So the new age of shitty Bioware writers.

And then they bring in a nasty piece of work like Maggs? Game has almost no chance of being good, unless they stay really true to the original, because these people are likely only going to ruin it.

Why do the game need writer at all is more the first question that comes to mind....
All is there and already done ...paid your artist better and take more time to polish the experience instead

Worried this game is going to be woke trash.

Oh, then I have to prepare for Malak and Revan's handsex quest.

Also, this by Shinobi:

If PlayStation Studios teams are working on the game, and Sony is publishing it, I think there is a very little chance it would come on other consoles. Another argument is if it were just a normal timed exclusive, Sony didn't need to publish it. It would have been published by a third-party publisher, who would later publish it on Xbox and Nintendo. Why go the trouble of publishing it by SIE on PS?

And speaking of console exclusives....

As in, not only exclusive to PS platforms, but exclusive to PS5 in particular, i.e. not a cross-gen title.

So, I never played KOTOR. Could someone who played the original give me a brief of what makes the game so special?

It isn’t concern trolling to be worried about the inclusion of someone on the game’s writing staff who clearly dislikes Star Wars fans and the more classic stories. She’s a huge fan of the sequel trilogy which raises massive red flags, as they are shit.

Her inclusion rather indicates they intend to ‘update’ Kotor with the more modern style of storytelling of the sequels.

If that doesn’t worry you then you need your head examined.

She's not a writing lead and therefore will write what she's told to write.

She's also not even writing an original game. Much of the dialogue is already written. So there's a clear limit to the damage she could possibly do.

Well, let’s hope that’s the case.

The central point stands that employing someone with her outlook doesn’t sound commensurate with a remake that intends to follow the original closely. It sounds like they intend to make large changes to the narrative.

I’d be fine with that if we were talking about someone who admired good Star Wars. She clearly does not.

A lot of nostalgia to be honest.

From a modern perspective not that much anymore. At the time it was amazing and still one of the best Star Wars games. The story and characters still hold up.

However I liked Dragon Age Origins more for example, it was a better game from Bioware using their formula in more interesting way.

Console launch exclusive is throwing me off. God I fucking hate marketing.

Otherwise it sounds like an insomnaic type deal w/ spiderman (before they were aquired)

Not permanent PS5 exclusive. Will come to Xbox.

For example- Stalker 2 is console launch exclusive. Will come to PS5.

SIE only publishing PS5 version

Whole game is massive red flag. They want to "modernize" story, people who worked on Andromeda and Anthem are writers of that game, she working on it. And on top of all that it's being made by porting company which never made own game.
What's even point of making remake of kotor if they will rewrite it and change gameplay? What's left? Name? Maybe characters and locations.

I wouldn't be certain about this. Plenty of timed exclusives never made their way to other consoles, e.g., FF7 Remake, Fall Guys, Godfall, etc.

SIE only publishing PS5 version
Are you assuming this or are there official details on Era about this? I checked a few posts on the page you link, but couldn't find anything.

I hope you are right, and she has minimal influence on the game. But even if her role is small, this game is being made by people who thought it was a good idea to hire Sam Maggs as a writer. This is cause for genuine concern.

Not only that, but someone who’s clearly unqualified and batshit crazy.

It is a bit weird to word it as' console exclusive at launch'. Maybe publishing it on PS was a way to drop the 'cost' of getting it as an exclusive. There are too many unknowns sadly, I want to see who is publishing it on PC.
The wording is so fucking confusing, but I thought SIE's publishing the PS5 & PC version.

How is she "clearly unqualified"?
She thinks Last Jedi is good movie. That means she has no idea what good story or characters are.

The wording is so fucking confusing, but I thought SIE's publishing the PS5 & PC version.
It's way worse:
"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake will see the classic RPG return as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive at launch and for PC"
So when PC version will be available?

The reason why it says CONSOLE launch exclusive is because it's launching on PC & PS5 only day one, if it was launching ONLY on PS5 & then PC a few months later, it would say "PlayStation 5 launch exclusive" instead of "PlayStation 5 console launch exclusive". And it's been confirmed the game's coming to PC & PS5 DAY ONE and it still says "PS5 console exclusive AT LAUNCH", meaning it'll come to Xbox sometime later (don't know exactly how long that is).

just a really solid rpg, that presented a lot of cool ideas into the star wars universe that I've never seen in the movies or television shows.

Though with this news of who is writing it now, I got to be honest, A lot of the cool stuff in KoToR might be gone.

There is one slavic proverb i think really relevant for that situation.:
A spoonful of tar spoils a barrel of honey.

Given how many prominent game studios are based in California, by that logic almost every game would be polluted by misandry-spouting woke BS.

I think you'll find these kinds of people in virtually every game studio.

Yes... even you're favourite studios too.

She also worked on Ratchet & Clack A Rift Apart (as a lead writer in fact).

That game was excellent and in no way reflected any of the shitty personal views she holds.

She was probably part of the people within Insomniac bitching about the feminine features of the female lead character in the game, according to the recent reports.

But regardless, the game launched, we played it, it was awesome. So I don't think a studio hiring someone like Sam Maggs automatically means the game is damned to be shit.

Definitely wasn't. Haven't played the game since 03/04.
Yeah but Revan is the main character of the game and you played it. It just seems surreal to me. It's like looking at the cover of a mario game and saying: "who's the guy with the overalls, cap and mustache, it's been a while since I played this game"

It's Star wars, there are good characters and story. I guess it also set a lot of standards for console RPGs that later found its way to games like Mass Effect. Like how you interact with your companions and they dole out meaty exposition via dialogue.
Some genuinely great stuff there, especially a few good twists (some considered legendary). However, certain Processor Layton'ish puzzles are positively archaic and they kill the pace.

I dunno I got a feeling it's gonna be another VtM: Bloodlines 2 kind of deal. Given the current state of the SW franchise there is a whole lot that can go wrong.

The only current Star Wars games that are good IMO are Last Order and SWTOR. I picked up SW Battlefront 2 by EA and that one seems ok for what it is but I fel that the OG Battlefront 2 is overall the better game.

I really hope they don't bastardize an old classic but I think it's heading that way.

We need to see gameplay first. Odds are they might scrap the ATB format and just go full ARPG akin to FFVIIR.

A few more relevant facts about Sam Maggs (if they're at all worth anything to some of you guys anymore):

  • Sam Maggs is not a permanent staff of the Aspyr team. She's a consultant and therefore working with Aspyr as an external contractor
  • Sam Maggs was also a lead writer on Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, which launched to rave reviews and is a fantastic game many of us have played and enjoyed which did not contain any of the radical left woke BS some of you are trying to fear-monger over this game

Given the above, together with the fact that Sam Maggs is not a senior writer on this project, nor is the project a wholly original work; in that much of the OG game dialogue and text will be retained, the FUD many on this forum seem to want to spread about this game is just downright disgraceful.

It's...

If she’s on the game I certainly buy. I don’t generally straight out boycott products but I will make an exception here.

They are not publishing that game. Sony is publishing the new game that is being "remade". I thin it's the technical loophole, you can say.
By this logic, would Microsoft be able to do the same if they want to? I dunno why, but this seems unlikely. I think Microsoft is not known for remaking games...they probably weren't going to do anything with the game and so maybe they cut a deal with Sony.
