How do FFXIV fans feel about the influx of new players?

FFXIV has been getting a bunch of new players due to several reasons. I know that this has led to server congestion and other inconveniences. The game itself has a reputation for having a pretty friendly fanbase (for an MMO). Are there any concerns about new players from the older community?

I myself have recently started playing. I've been hearing its the best FF for years. To my surprise, it basically feels like FF12-2 in terms of environment and feel, which is a good thing. Love the world and atmosphere so far.

Why would anyone be upset that an MMO is gaining in popularity?

Increase in noobs. Increased length to get into servers (I was wait listed 400+ players last night), increase in trolls / hostile players?

Seeing the complete turnaround from the 1.0 days to now is something else. I don’t mind it, they plan on opening more servers anyway so the congestion is temporary.

Endwalker launch is going to be a shitshow though. It’s overcrowded during the pre-expansion lull, so the servers aren’t going to able to take it during the expansion release, especially when some unscrupulous folks will likely decide to do another DDOS attack right around then for maximum effect.

I'm on Primal so my queue times have been relatively unchanged.

I do worry about Endwalker launch, though. It's probably going to be a nightmare on Aether lol

Slightly longer login queues and forced server disconnects after extended periods of being AFK are a small price to pay for a welcomed influx of new players. I certainly welcome FFXIV's newfound popularity, it's great game with a great community and I'm glad to see it strive. I didn't notice any increase in hostility and sprouts are always welcome so long as they are willing to learn the ropes.

So far I've mostly had a good time with new players in duty roulettes so personally I'm not concerned at all.

I dunno. I question ff14 ”fans” sanity

I have played for 30 hours - and it is easily one of the most boring games i have played in years

feels like playing one characters in a rts - where someone else has the fun.

The music is good though. This is not a new FF singleplayer experience - that is for sure

my god this shit is mundane - this is an mmo after all i guess

No change I notice on Japanese side。A relative who play in English notice more new players and longer wait to get in。Sometimes party death in older dungeon and battles too but new players would not know as much about what to do。Good more are enjoying it。

I'm absolutely fine with it. It's so cool to see people excited about the game. It has made some of the gold saucer events hilarious because there are so many people. I also have to play better doing low level content because people don't know how to do it.

A Realm reborn has an incredibly boring low level combat system, because they've had to remove so many skills to keep it in line with playstation controls over the years; because you get more added in later. I warn everyone of that. You're also a glorified errand boy until around 45, when things start to matter for your character. This is a very reasonable interpretation on your part.

Best part about an MMO is when more people join, so I'm okay with it. Plus, makes roulette wait time go faster. As others have said, Endwalker launch day is probably going to be an absolute shitshow and might surpass Stormblood.

You play the most boring portion of the game. Stick to it and you'll be rewarded greatly with a 3 mainline FF games worth of content and story that's worth sticking by. They just prioritize newer content over overly adjusting older ones even though they did a light refresh as of recent. It is rough I won't deny it, but try to make full use of your free trial or sub and at least see it to the end of the first expansion.

I'm not sure why anyone would be anything else than happy about their favorite MMO being successful? Even more so considering where it started.

Final Fantasy XIV is literally the most uplifting story of redemption in the gaming industry. As someone who has started in September 2010 on day one (and I mean the real day one) and never left, I'm proud to see how far the game has come.

Slightly off topic, I started playing it recently too, I liked the story in ARR and HW, but stormblood onwards turns your character into air.
It makes it hard to finish the MSQ when my character doesn't matter, except for the occasional fight.
Also I'm not a fan of being forced into duties for the MSQ.

This is a strange take. The more the story progresses, the more your character matters.

? Your character is more personally involved in Stormblood than HW though. I don't quite understand, but Shadowbringers has WoL the most involved yet.

Meh, queue times are about the same, and I've spent the last few months doing solo stuff after clearing all the endgame crap. Let the noobs have fun... just stay away from my housing plots in 6.1

It has been good and bad. Seeing crowded towns everywhere and people having fun is awesome.
But many wow people bring wow habits, anyone who has played wow knows what a shitshow general chat is, trade chat and whatnot. There is a huge influx of people shouting in towns but so far most of it is not as bottom tier as in wow.
Wow players also can't wipe their ass without at least three different mods, whether it is boss mod, market board mods, quest trackers, treasure finders , whatever it they may be. More and more word of these types of add ons around and getting more attention where as before it was maybe some shader mods and a parsing add on.
The group that Asmongold are responsible for alot of that, as it came out that they use certain mods.

All and all though it has been more positive than negative.

I'm one of those new players. I have nothing good to play for the rest of the year, so I gave it a try. Started a bit more than a month ago, and I was persuaded that I would bounce out of the game and go do other things pretty quickly. I'm not what you would call a wow player.

I am now toward the end of Stormblood.
I can't stop playing. Help.

it is great. having tons of new player, old area and field is full of player roaming around and they 'revive' old fate etc. is great. it made the game more lively.

on youtube there tons of video of where new streamers currently playing the game. tons of funny stuff like plenty of video streamers get trolled on cape westwind.

but just hope this influx wont increase toxicity in the game. the community already has very less toxic than other mmo and i hope it keep that way.

and hopefully Yoshida can make whatever necessary adjustment or server upgrade before Endwalker. currently the game in dry content phase. there is no new patch until next expansion launch. i afraid the launch would crash the server or another Raubhan EX is happening again.

What may be interesting after this influx of players is if the game will be able to keep its good reception, i know this game is pretty acclaimed, will it stay very well received with this or will the bigger popularity expose it to more criticism? we shall see in 1-2 years.

You can solo most MMO's "meaning you dont need to join a clan or anything extra" I dont see how new players for a MMO is a bad thing most of the late end game stuff is locked by levels so even if new players join they cant do any endgame content or do raids ect.

But does the actual gameplay change? Are the battles wastly different? Are dungeons more than just a linear monster rush

FFXIV has a super "noob friendly" comunity. The game marks new players with a little green sprout over their heads so veteran players recognise them at sigh. The game also sends an automatic message like "There are players that never completed this dungeon before. Extra XP and Gil will be rewarded to everybody" when you enter a dungeon/raid/trial so veterans already know they have to help the newbs and tell possible tips or strategy and the rewards for completing are higher.

ALSO, for high end content max lvl players have to do random old dungeons and bosses to earn high end tokens or currency, that means new players will ALWAYS have people to do the old content (basically, all the Main Story questing and old final bosses) and veterans can get extra rewards for helping a new player so they are more than wellcome.

So basically, veteran FFXIV players are supper happy of this influx of new players. More players = more money for the dev team = more jobs and improvements.

But does the actual gameplay change? Are the battles wastly different? Are dungeons more than just a linear monster rush

Regarding gameplay. With every expansion and every new raid or final boss the game included new mechanics, so ARR may look simple but the more you advance the more complicated mechanics you will have to deal with. Every mechanic also means a new marker to remember...so in SHadowbringers is super common to be in a boss that uses many old mechanics plus the new ones making the fights super fun. They started to add a lot of cool stuff since they figured how to implement "active time maneuver phases" lol

Gameplay of every class changes drastically: at lvl 30 (when you unlock the job), at lvl50 (full ARR set of skills), lvl60, lvl70 and lvl80.

As an example of drastic changes we have the Summoner. From lvl1 to lvl29 you have only 1 direct damage spell (ruin), 3 carbuncles and some dots. From 30 to 50 you learn to summon Ifrit (melee dps pet), Garuda (Ranged AOE dps pet) and Titan (Tank for Solo questing pet), with their 2 skills, their ultimate skills and your direct damage spells plus 2 dots. SMN literally only does Dot+Ruin+Pet damage.

At lvl60 SMN learns to enter in a Bahamut Trance giving for 20 seconds instant casting of every spell, damage buff, Ruin 2 evolves into Ruin 4 and is instant, instant aoes and AHK MORN (bahamut very heavy hitting aoe signature attack). SMN has 2 phases, Dot+Ruin+Pet phase and Bahamut trance phase.

At lvl70 SMN learns how to Summon fucking Bahamut that will autoattack every time you use a spell for 20 seconds and can use AHK MORN himself twice. So SMN has now 3 battle phases, Dot+Ruin+Pet phase, Bahamut Trance Phase and Summon Bahamut phase.

At lvl80 SMN learns how to Summon Phoenix. Phoenix will change all the Ruin attacks for Fire Attacks and have his own fire AHK MORN equivalent, also gives HP regen to all the party members. So now the SMN has the Ruin+Dot+Pet phase, Bahamut Trance Phase, Bahamut Summon phase and Phoenix Summon phase.

And this clusterfuck happens with ALL the jobs.

Bonus track:

SMN after lvl60:

And yea, normal dungens will never stop being "monster rushes" cause that's why they are for lol.

Came to say this, a strange question to ask. Almost snobbish and condescending I’d say.

Reminds me of those who want something that’s underground or unknown to remain so, kind of.
