Fantasian is way too hard

ULTROS!

The first part of Fantasian is definitely fine, I can progress without too much work and I can enjoy it still.

it’s the second half of the game that gets too hard. I feel like the bosses do too much damage and your defense is useless because they’ll take out 2/3 of your life no matter what so you have to rely on strategy with no leeway (yes, one false move and it’s game over). 70% of the time I’m just healing and buffing and it takes 20-30 minutes to kill just the boss.

people keep saying it’s refreshing to see something like this but bullshit, I want to enjoy a Mistwalker game but this game is way too hard, even harder than a SaGa game. I don’t like that the first part was very doable then the second half felt like everything is a optional super boss, but they’re story bosses.

I honestly wish there’s a way to notch down the difficulty because even overleveling doesn’t work.

FYI I’m in the final boss already.

jRPGs get like that. They rely on random number generators to ass rape the player. Micromanaging status effects is not fun. Grinding to mitigate that pain in the ass is also not fun. If a jRPG is poorly put together you waste 50% of your time with it dealing with tedious bullshit.

I’ve played a lot of JRPGs and none of them are as long winded and near impossible as this. SaGa is the closest but it’s still doable (except for Romancing SaGa 2).

I’d like it to come to console I was playing on IPad for a bit but it just don’t feel the same.

That's because most of the people who made JRPGs can't balance shit. And this is particularly true on a lot of games made by Square-Enix. They are all so broken...

There are still games out there that are perfectly balanced and well designed, avoiding these annoying problems. Mainly from SEGA.

So this does not come up as a big surprise for a game made by Sakaguchi.

Not a fan of JRPGs in the slightest but I remember seeing the "dimengion" system in this game and thinking it was a pretty clever twist on random encounters.

The harder the better. I think most jrpgs are way too easy. I was so happy about DQ11 having hard mode and some challenges I could enable.

I downloaded it with a free trial and watched the intro. I have a lot of JRPGs on my phone, mostly Square games. I do have Lunar and other misc stuff. I don’t know why I haven’t put time into it. Have you done any research into equipment and weapons? Xenogears had items that made you OP towards the end.

I am playing Wild Arms and DQVIII (3DS). I had DQVIII on PS2 many years ago, but this is so much better. However DQ is like the same game but different world. Hit next objective, grind for a bit, complete objective, fight boss, rinse and repeat. You always have that cycle. Wild Arms breaks things apart with 3 characters at first and each person has their own unique start to them.

I agree about Romancing SaGa 2 and 3. I have the iOS ports of both. Romancing SaGa 2 made me so frustrated, especially if you die. I remember getting to a certain boss and getting annihilated. It wasn’t just the bosses. It was like the cave in Lunar where you go back to town after each fight to heal, stock up, and then head back.

Looking back, Lost Odyssey had some boss fights that were just annoying. They were easy once you had a strategy.

Fuck that game. I love Mistwalker games but them never putting Terra Battle on a console as a real game pissed me off. Not this game. I bought the Apple pass for a month and enjoyed the game but damn! Put the game on a real console! Mistwalker must really be pissed that their games have gone into the ether on mobile.

This is just speculation. They probably get paid a lot more. What sucks is that you have amazing Japanese developers that can’t make money off their work, even if they make some of the best games in the world. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I have a book about Japanese game developers and the awesome stuff that they make didn’t make them a lot of money on their own. Apple probably pays them more if they develop this than if they just made a game and put it on console. It’s satisfying in both ways: they get more money and they make a traditional JRPG type of game.

But again...like Terra Battle.....once they shut it down their work is LOST.

Apple Arcade is garbage. At least Xbox Gamepass gives you the option to buy the game. I'm not spending over $20 to rent the game.
I subscribe to both. Not sure how one is related to the other. Apple Arcade is $5/mo, too. Not $20.

I would play it for a few months.....hence...the $20. I have zero issues paying $60 for the game.....but I'm not spending money on a rental which will be taken offline in a year.

None of the Apple Arcade games have left the initial library if I'm not mistaken. Apple is just building a constant library of games. They won't disappear. Think of it as a music streaming service.

Each boss in this part seems to have a gimmick. So it means going into the battle and figuring out that gimmick and then retrying/rebuilding your team to suit. You can brute force some bosses, but you'll generally have a tougher time than just playing like the devs want. Doing this for every battle can get annoying I guess.

But yeah, it's definitely not the walk in the park difficulty that FF games are known for, that's for sure.

Apple Arcade is a better service than Gamepass. The games don’t come off it and it’s a quarter of the price.
Apple TV 4K is the best console to get under $250.

Media/streaming apps that perform better than the PS5 versions(especially Plex) and you can use Playstation controllers to play the latest Sakaguchi RPG and Hot Shots Golf. Oh and that Shinsekai game that was made by the Lost Planet devs. Honestly, at the moment Apple arcade is a good platform for JP devs that got shunned by big publishers. No idea how long that will last though lol

I feel like this with Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2. I am on Galdera in the first game and man, that is not a fun fight, I killed the first form and then the three appendages and the last one went ham on me and annihilated me, as if the first form and the three appendages weren't annoying enough.

On BD2, I just got to the berserker fight and he started off with a AoE for ~1200ish damage then started whacking me for ~1700-2200 a pop when my toons ony had 1800-2k hp. This is made worse because the game has a system to let you and the enemies attack 4 times in a row.

Try reaching Faceit level 10 or Global Elite in CS before telling me about hard

After dealing with MP games, SP games are a walk in the park to me

The Galdera fight has a nice quick strategy if you're still needing it:

BD2 is a different case because you can essentially use the same strategy and steam roll most if not all the bosses in the game. That's probably the benefit of having so many options in terms of abilities that you can break the Bravely games in multiple ways. Fantasian on the other hand is very limited in terms of abilities and strategies that you can use. So developers have been able to balance it more tightly, and that's probably an issue since it limits your creativity and strategical potential. Anyway, if you're still after a strategy for Berkserker, see below:

I don’t think Apple Arcade is worth the money to be honest, lots of games but few are good, imo.
But I still like it since Fantasian happened, might not have happened otherwise, it’s the old school FF update I never got. Wonderbox is great too, combining it with an iPad for creation and Apple TV for gaming is great fun especially if you have kids.

Is it hard like FF4 DS hard? That one is perfect in terms of challenge and good balance. It just requires good strategy, something that JRPGs rarely get right.

Octopath Traveler was very good in terms of challenge and combat strategy. Bravely Default 2 on the other hand is so bad that I didn't bother trying the other games in the series (way too many skills. Your characters learn something new after almost every battle, but it's more effective if you just rely on the same couple of abilities forever).

I’ve never played the NDS version of FFIV but it’s as hard as Romancing SaGa 2, minus the “if you didn’t get X, you’ll never beat the final boss” thing.

I guess you can say it’s almost comparable to Romancing SaGa 3 but I don’t recall getting as frustrated there.

Thank you for your post, I will check out the Galdera one shortly, since it is still on my to-do list. With the Berserker, I just grabbed a few more levels and leveled up the Thief class on two toons and made short work of him with Godspeed Strike, since it is clearly overpowered.

What I particularly didn't like about that fight was that I easily beat the Thief fight, then went back and and fought the Berserker right after, no additional fights, but it was a substantial increase in difficulty considering no new dungeon. That and I don't really like having to constantly swap jobs to have the "right" set up. Now I get to enjoy Galahad, but I feel this one is not as bad if I decide to, since I know more about the game. Beastmaster is also broken... But for now I don't want to use that or Thief.

Lol at people already talking about other games because they haven't played Fantasian. No offense, it's a shame Fantasian is stuck on a platform most aren't interested in (me included).

I feel you OP. Woke up this morning to fight Trapped Zinikr and got my ass handed to me. I didn't even reduce its HP to half.

For those wondering there are no OP weapons and difficulty modes either. There is a skill map but progression is extremely slow as you only earn skill point when you level up, and leveling up is slow, and on top of that as your levels get higher enemies yield less xp, so good luck accumulating enough skills to make a difference. On the bright side, if you think carefully about which accessories to equip, you might gain an advantage against the boss you're up against.

It seems the only solution is to grind - something I loathe. It's a shame because the battle system is actually very well designed: your party member have lots of useful abilities, debuffs work on bosses, and bosses have distinct gimmicks that make each boss battle more or less unique. Plus you can swap party members a la FFX. All the system needs is reducing the strength of bosses a little bit.

Easily one of the best balanced combat system I have ever played. Dynamic, strategic, original and challenging. I would not change the bosses anything, beating them is one of the greatest satisfactions I have had with a game in a while.

Fantasian isn't about grinding, it's about using the right strategy for each boss.

Its the Dark Souls of Final Fantasy. And that is awesome.

Did you have to grind to beat trapped Zinikr or subsequent bosses? I ask because there are abilities that can prove crucial in some bosse battles and to get them you have to reach a certain level. In part 1 there were a few bosses towards the end (like Vam) that required me to grind for a bit to get the buffs needed to survive devastating attacks. Winning these battles did feel very satisfying, more than in the average RPG.

Not personally. I got Zinikir after recruiting Ez and doing the robot base quest. And with that I had everything I needed to overcome that battle. Especially the Samidare (Fire and Lightning) with Leo and All Potion L with Ez.

In fact, the game intentionally limits your farming.

On the other hand, the growth map is not about consuming APs in a straight line, sometimes it is necessary to retrace your steps and use those APs in skills that are useful for that boss.

I've never played or even know much about this game. But, I'm pretty sure you need to git gud?
Grinding doesn’t fully help and it takes a long time.

you really need to utilize buffing and speed up because a boss can dish out 2/3 of your HP in just one hit.

FYI I finished the game. Gotta say this is one of the hardest JRPGs I’ve played, up there with the Romancing SaGa games.

yes this is what I was talking about. The battle system is fun and it’s like an improved FFX battle system. Unfortunately the bosses are much too strong and they need to tone down the difficulty of the bosses, several of them rely on luck, like the final boss. Personally, the difficulty of the second part should be equal to at least for the first part of the game (that part was completely fine).

tbh after finishing the game, I felt very satisfied, I even almost gave up on the final boss and almost called it the quits.

Thanks for the tips! I didn’t know you could remove and reassign skill points. I’m currently doing the robot base quest. Hopefully I gain a few levels during it.
